  • Guild Wars 2 - Competitive Communication – What’s Next for PVP and WvW? - MMORPG.com

They tried early on and failed miserably when it comes to eSport. The failure simply trickles down to both PvP modes in the game, WvWvW and sPVP.
They will need a major revamp to reboot it imo.
One of the biggest reason their eSport never really work is the clusterfk visual. Fun to play, pain to watch.

  • Belgium says loot boxes are gambling

This is going to put some serious dent in the mobile gaming profit.
Well done EA, you've ruined it for everyone else. Good stuff.

Wait ... GW2 revenue only went up by slightly over 6.5 billion KRW on the quarter of the expansion release compared to previous quarter (q2'17)? that is kind of small?
A bit of knowledge goes a long way:

    Q3 = July, August , September
Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire - Release date = September 22, 2017

So basically , Q3 ended when GW2 launched their expansion.

Q4 sales for GW2 will be at least this big , if not bigger .
You think sales were higher 8+ days AFTER launch? I would imagine the vast majority of expansion and related sales were immediately BEFORE AND the first 7 days after the launch...which would be included in those numbers...sales likely to be down from that number for Q4.
If I'm not mistaken, most revenue of new game sales with full steam hype is in the 1st month after release (or 3 month?)+preorders. I can't remember well the time frame, perhaps shorter. I think i heard it from one of the youtube video out there criticizing EA's gag order on Mass Effect Andromeda reviews. EA was maximizing revenue because they knew it was going to be a turd on release.

I know the release date. If the cut off date of the quarter is the end of the month, the figure should have included slightly over 1 week post release date sales and all the preorder.  It's still kind of low.

  • 'Mount Adoption Licenses' Now for Sale for Gems, Community Ignites at RNG Nature - Guild Wars 2 - MM

Loot box RNG in GW2 has been a rip off for a long time in this game (BL Chests). And player base was fine with it. Anet bounds to take it to another level one way or another.
The standard copy and paste GW2 white knight defense has always been "it's not mandatory" for almost everything. So, it's not a surprise to see ppl defending it that way.
I suspect it's either PoF sales was subpar, Gemstore revenue post PoF is poor or it's just plain greed. It could be combination of those reasons.
Either way they need revenue. Perhaps they figured they weren't aggressive enough on gemstore with HoT and it's time to take it to another level with PoF.

Another big possibility is this is a publicity stunt, they'll fix it. And voila, good guy Anet.
