ty all for the replies, so right now I guess it's down to ffxiv vs. Rift - from I understood ffxiv has both game price of $29 + monthly fee of around $15?

Haven't tried Rift, just read about it briefly, does it really offer what I'm looking for? combination of groupless activites with decent and challenging group-requiring end-game activities?

Dungeouns are piss-easy, except for maybe one (Arah) which is also quite easy Fractals could be a bit challenging, but once you know them, it's again mostly tank and spank, and doesn't require real communication and team effort to complete
