Ultima Online gave me that feeling. To this day its still the only game that could make me actually panic. The idea that I had a whole world to explore really got my blood pumping. I suppose I've become somewhat cynical over what to expect from MMOs…
You're right, SWG has always been pretty much broken. I think it goes back to the sandbox elements that originally carried the game. The game depended on community-building aspects and social interaction. The CU was enough to make the milk turn sour…
Whether "SWG is the worst game ever" is not the point. The cadaver of that quaint little game is pretty much irrelevant at this point. What is relevant however is $OE's questionable business ethics. With fraudulent bait & switch tactics I would…
I have no doubt $OE does this. Some companies can be reasonably defended and given the benefit of the doubt whether through viral marketing or casual fans. $OE is beyond this point, however. To willingly cast aside a mature sense of ethics for this …
Thanks for the replies guys. After reading through all of this I have decided I may have been wrong to call Alpha Class bad for marketing. I was basing this assumption on the sheer level of complaints because of it (concerning perma-death, TEFs and …
You guys make some great points. However, my main concern with Alpha Classes would be the steadily growing population of them. Even under the most stringent system people will powergame to attain it. You may be able to slow the growth but eventually…
The word "veteran" always seemed silly to me when regarding a game. Obviously most of us are seasoned in this game and are well aware of how to play it. I certainly hold no ill-will towards a NGE player who may enjoy the game. My grievances are wit…
I have no problem with a Jedi-centric game. Its an obvious selling point that should be capitalized on. My only hopes are that smugglers, bounty hunters and other nifty choices will be available as well.
It will be interesting to see what Bioware can pop out. I for one look forward to a Star Wars game being crafted by a company with a modicum of competence.
I am officially whining about whining about people who whine about whining.
Here is a novel idea. Let's have the freedom to express our opinions without trying to play forum dictator. It's terribly clich
Blaming the customers is one of the most absurd notions I have heard. I genuinely hope you guys do not run a professional business with that same type of business acumen. You might end up with similar results that SWG had.
Blaming the players? I respectfully disagree. In almost every game ever made there will be people complaining about something. Its simply an undeniable fact in this business. It's the job of developers and community managers to filter the good ideas…

SWG was an unfortunate moment in the history of this business. It will certainly be historic, although probably not the way $OE would like it to be. Nobody really won in that deal, except for WoW perhaps.
Speaking of WoW...I genuinely believe they…
