Oh, I thought you were talking about difficulty. I was gonna say none of them, but yeah I agree. Most MMOs tend to have world ending doom on the horizon, you're a grand savior, etc, etc.
Defiance, I guess. It just has some overall, general threats.…
Im also interested in the Shadowrun series as well as the Rift series. (unrelated to the current Rift mmo)
Dune, Blade Runner and the Matrix world would all be good places to set a new mmo in.
Doubt there will be a AAA title, …
When a thread has new posts, the small notice says (for example) "5 new plural". I'm assuming that's meant to say "posts"... the plural form of "post".
EDIT: Refreshed the page, and now it just says "5 new" ...that works, I suppose.
I'm a big fan of cyberpunk; Neuromancer and Count Zero changed my life. Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon were also great. The more recent works by both authors of the aforementioned novels are also very good.
That said, I'm not…
While longevity is certainly a concern in MMOs, they actually survive more on the influx of new players. If things remain top heavy for too long, the game atrophies and dies. It's a touchy balance that's not easy to maintain.
@Theocritus. This at least tells us that we are lacking the talent, the ability to create the product despite having the tools, technology and funding available. The reason why I…
@Theocritus. This at least tells us that we are lacking the talent, the ability to create the product despite having the tools, technology and funding available. The reason why I would be willing to spend $25 a month is because a…
I did not state not imply all is well and good. Nor did i imply anything about the goal of playing games. The fact remains that in a free to play game you choose how much you spend. Whether it is not…
How am I being "intentionally obtuse"? I specifically said "in my experience" I have never found cash shop items to make a boring game fun, then asked for specific examples others might have had.
I've never spent a penny in a cash shop and (hopefully) never will - I think its terrible business model and supporting businesses that use it is the same thing as supporting bad games.
However, I'll give…
Your buying doesn't change anything. But a cash shop requires the game not to be fun or it won't make any money.
Heh? I'm assuming that you're suggesting that they deliberately make the game less fun, then charge you for the …
In response to OP as well as a few comments here:
A: A monthly sub does not equate to better security or better content or better end game. Are you under the impression that developers of F2P games don't want good content and security in their game…
It's largely because of hype. I would love to keep all of the development and super-cool features of my game a secret, but if I don't get people interested and talking about it, it's dead in the water.
Yes, I'm indie, but this goes for large publis…
UO practically invented the survival MMO (and MUDs before it). Then it died until DayZ gave it a rez. IMHO all MMOs would benefit from a few more survival circumstances.
Aren't survival games …
They aren't mutually exclusive.
There are MMOs that are also survival games. A survival game just means (normally) that you play a character battling the elements, seeking out the necessities to survive.
Instances aren't bad. They shouldn't be private and shouldn't be replicas. The problem is really the scope of the current MMORPG being more that of single player game in size and design. We have come full circle wher…
I think some people here are missing what "achievements" are. We're not talking about going out and achieving something, like taking down a mighty boss or discovering some lost country. We're talking about "Hey, you just killed your 10,000th goblin!…
So again, what are you and that other poster trying to say about pre-2005 and achievements? Not quest design, just achievements.
IF an MMO had achie…
