Why do I sign my posts "~Ripper" if my handle is "rhinok"? I originally joined mmorpg.com in order to secure a beta spot for some game (can't remember which one, so I just created a handle. I've used Ripper McGee as a forum handle for years on the NCSoft boards (CoH, Dungeon Runners, Exteel) . "Ripper McGee" was the name of my first character (on my own account) on CoH years ago. I've also used the name as a pen name for a few reviews and editorials I've written. So, rather than create a new identify on mmorpg.com, I just sign all posts as Ripper, which is essentially my "gamer tag".

  • In both games, you need to pay to continue playing content past the initial few quest areas.  Calling it F2P is really misleading, IMO.  It's really a matter of semantics.  You can keep playing "the game" for free, forever, but you'll never be able …

  • It's highly unlikely any responsible closed beta testers will share their friend keys with strangers.  Why?  Because the keys are linked and if a "friend" gets banned, the original key holder will be banned also.  This helps to ensure responsible be…

  • To clarify, you'll pass on playing a new, potentially fun game because you don't like the publisher?  You're not punishing NCSoft by doing that, you're punishing yourself by denying yourself entertainment and you're punishing the studio who has been…

  • This whole protest is silly.  What's fun, acceptable and a good entertainment value to one person may not be to another.  The easiest thing to do is vote with your wallet.  If you don't like a game, don't pay to play it.  Companies that aren't profi…

  • This happened when EQ went from $9.89/mo to $14.95/mo, so there's a precedent.  Personally, I wouldn't mind as long as: * I still received what I thought was a fair entertainment value for my money.  That's obviously subjective.  * Price inc…
  • 1)  Pirate101 is not "pay to win".  Why?  Because there's nothing you can't accomplish in the game through gear, ships and companions you acquire normally through the course of playing.  Can you get companions earlier?  Yes, but they'll never be hig…
  • Awesome!  I've been playing Wizard101 with my now 13-year old son since beta in 2008.  We're playing Pirate101 together, too.
  • It's a family-friendly game based in the samed world as Wizard101.  The gameplay may be different, but I wouldn't expect changes like completely free chat and guilds.  They're catering to pretty much the same audience as before. As for "missing the…

  • I'm excited that it's not just standard hot key-based targeting, but instead uses free form targeting and strategic terrain control.
