WOW was an MMO by a MAJOR game designer. Everyone who loved Warcraft 1-3 wanted to play it even if they had never played MMO's before.
There's more involved than just that.…

Thanks for the info all. Re: the Undead starting zone, how changed is it? Totally new quests? Also, which expansion packs do I need?
If it is not totally revamped pve then I will have to roll Alliance I think, I'm not one for "nostalgia".

Wow was the most polished of the new breed of MMOs: Guild Wars, WOW, EQ2, SWG. It wasnt groundbreaking at all in and of itself, you could find elements of it in prior MMOs and MMOs of its own generation.
It would make perfect sense. EQ2 was certainly more of a success than the countless EQ clones under generic IP's that have failed since. EQ2 was a truly cinematic game that actually gave immersion a chance.
Guild Wars was my first, and I didn't really like it. I played DAOC next, and that is my favorite MMO, followed by EQ2 and Shadowbane.
I played WOW very late, and I didn't like it.

Thanks guys!
It is too bad about the need to use mics in game. It isnt the talking that bothers me, its the LISTENING
I think I will still give the game a shot, though.
pretty good list! I would put shadowbane or lineage 2 in over WOW though. If you want to give the wow style of PVP some love then at least go with EQ2, which allows people to go rogue and kill anyone they want no matter which faction.
faction based like WOW(no RVR) world PVP, although they are putting in new battlegrounds. It would actually be pretty good if it wasn't for the AA skill-trees that force people to grind to stay competitive in pvp.
