Maybe try Archeage, fantasy themed mmo, it has open world pvp and its done quite well. THeres naval combat, castle seiges etc. I really enjoyed that game.

Thanks, if the combat is not as slow and boring as FF ARR and the community is still large and active then i dont mind it being an older game. I will watch some yt vids and see if its worth giving a try.

Elders Scrolls Online has that sort of system to a degree, you lvl heavy armour by wearing it and you lvl sword and shields by using them etc. You also get skill points but those are to choose new abilities.
