  • I played pokemon go for 8 years.  You do the same crap every day yet I keep playing. Maybe I am the target audience.   People write a lot on how good games were back in the days, but the fact is everyone just quit.  They come up with all the excus…
  • I actually saw albion online adds on youtube.  Must be doing not too badly if it is advertised on youtube.   I presume mobile players numbers are decent.  But steam number is low.   There really isn't too many good mmorpg on mobile.  So it's possi…

  • I think the problem is very few people play the same game for years or decades, so almost every mmorpg just fail after a few month or year.   And actually theme park games like wow have more longevity.  Or ARPG for that matter.   You take a mmorpg…
  • From wiki: The game was commercially unsuccessful, with sales of roughly 75,000 units in the U.S. by August 2000.[36] Might have contribute on developers giving up.  And you really don't need the IP to create a game in that general.
  • Pokemon go.  The most social mmorpg where you actually talk to real people.  Unless you are cheating and spoofing.
  • I usually google search or youtube search for game info and reviews.  And eventually google feed or youtube recommendation will auto come up with game info base on my previous search.
  • Apraxis said: And as a side note. Lost Ark got in the beginning over 300k concurrent players peak at steam. Which summarise easlily to a few million players, most probably more than 12 mil wow subscribers.  Even i played it shortly.. but not m…
  • Apraxis said: Hyperpsycrow said: ... I remember back in the days when wow had 12 mill players and was the best mmorg of the crowns. So how can a puny game that lives on life support be one of the best mmorpg with only 20-30k players...…
  • It's probably tough for indie developer or small studio since anyone can publish on steam, and there is a load of it.  So it's probably hard for a half decent indie game to stand out.   Most people just pay attention to the main stream games.
  • I think you are just spoiled by wow to think mmorpg are actually popular.  The most popular mmorpg in western number is probably still wow. Not to mention most of wow player is in china or somewhere in asia.  If you  just look at north america or e…
  • Hyperpsycrow said: I keep seeing ff14 or 15 or 16½ or ffxxIxxvI Or what ever its called haha This game is being the best or most played with over 1 mill player logins each day. But it states that 50m people plays it..but minus inactive …
  • I think the reality is no one knows.  And companies don't publish player numbers because if it is low or if it is downward trending(which almost every game is), it'll give them bad press. Another thing is monthly login is usually 10 times more than…
  • Grand Theft Auto V only have 168k and that is the 6th largest game on steam charts.  Maybe you are expecting too much.
  • I think any pricing model could work.  Not necessary one is better than the other.   I was looking at the GW2 numbers and seemed they rack in decent money every year. A bunch of those games are already buy to play.  It is just they keep updating a…
  • It's probably just harder to improve online games because it is more about the gameplay.  Other genre really just improve their graphics etc.   I don't even know what Wow2 or GW2 can potentially looks like because better mmorpg don't exist.   you …
  • It's probably like FTP games.  1000 people downloaded the game, and only end up having  5 players. So you are suggesting try to sell the games because you know everyone would quit anyway. It's easy to pick the success story.  How many console game…
  • It sounds like an interesting idea.  But it take somehting like 6 years to make new world and that is with Amazon backing. And the reason company like to make mmorpg is because they can make it into gaming as a service and keep getting more money c…
  • 30k concurrent is probably mabe something like 300k monthly logon. New World according to steam charts have 900k peak.  It have 30k now.  If base on that it is more like they keep 3% of the player. Many people probably logon for a few minutes, don…
  • I don't want to grind.  I think that's why I give up on mmorpg.   I'm playing pokemon go now.  That is enough grind for a game.   You pretty much login everyday to do the same crap just like 90% of the mmorpg.   I tried to play ESO, thinking I mig…
