I am not sure what server you are on or what level you are but I find when both races on a server both have many level 50's this opens up the fortress battles a lot more and makes them more exciting.

I did prefer the books to the films, I am suprised you decided to play the game without knowing what the films was about. What other mmos have you played because if you do not like the combat in lotro then maybe mmorpg's are not for you :P

I think it will be worth it since I know that lotro will be around for a good long while, but if you only plan to play for a year more then maybe not.
