Do you read anything but the headline before you ran to post that 'Mulims' are angry?

Response from Germany's Islamic community was mixed, with some praising the decision and others calling on Muslims to accept the role of provocation in art.

The leader of Germany's Islamic Council welcomed the move, saying a depiction of Mohammed with a severed head "could certainly offend Muslims."

But in an interview with German radio, Ali Kizilkaya added: "I think it is horrible that one has to be afraid ... That is not the right way to open dialogue."

The leader of Germany's Turkish community said it was time Muslims accepted freedom of expression in art.

"This is about art, not about politics," Kenan Kolat told Bavarian Radio. "We should not make art dependent on religion -- then we are back in the Middle Ages."

Maybe the title should be 'Mulims' are divided in opinions.

Ah, so that's how to get things offensive to me withdrawn.  You hear that christians, atheists, and Jews. If something offends you, get violent.  Time to see if I can find something to offend my christian sensibilities.

Doesn't matter if they're divided, we'll cave to the violent ones.

I think the question should be did YOU read the article?

Look at the last line from the paragraph you chose to quote. My point in all of this it seems as if NOBODY can do anything these days without upsetting the muslims.

There are 4 heads severed in the opera from 4 different areas of history/religion.

Not just 1 head but 4.Why wont the muslims get offended about the other 3?

Now the people putting the opera on have succumbed to the islamic fascists. If muslims have it their way we will ALL be under their rule this is the goal of islamic fascism.

After poking around at other sources such as the BBC and reading a couple of times we're both wrong. Muslims didn't do anything. There weren't any protests, no threats or anything (according to a German Press Agency, said from police) just criticism. This whole fiasco went down with self fueled fear without even any opinions from muslims until after the fact. Muslims didn't get offended by the one head or all 4, they didn't get time to before the show imploded.

So both mine and your titles are wrong. The thread should be called "mass hysteria hits Germany over opera" This whole sideshow would be funny if it wasn't so pitiful.

I'd say this is the key part:

"...drew widespread criticism over a scene in which King Idomeneo presents
the severed heads not only of the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, but
also of Mohammed, Jesus and Buddha."

Why are they not worried about Christians and Buddists compromising the safety of people?

Why must we succumb to threat of violence?

If I had a nickel for every pissed off Muslim, I'd be drinking poolside in Cancun right now.

Good point. It really is pitiful that they would be afraid of something that hasnt happened. Its as if they were afraid of being afraid and then overreacted.

Well just goes to show how politically correct the world is currently.Afraid of offending someone who hasnt even BEEN offended yet.

    Because pain hurts.

The trick is to threaten Greater Violence. (And deliver it periodically as a reminder).

The same is true of every major faith.

Essentially whatever you do, you are going to upset someone. Given the population of the planet, I think you will always be able to find a muslim angry about any issue you care to raise. Probaly even a few of them.

The same of course is going to be true of every other faith.

I can't even believe that this is being discussed in a thread where the dude couldn't spell Muslim correctly

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

    Hmm.
What other major faiths are there?
    Catholics? Crusades.
    Protestants? Burning "witches."
I believe those big 3 make up about 90% of the religious population.

The defining moment of my faith was crucifixition.

Although I kind of like the ducking stool and the Iron maiden.

Very good young padawan, you know your history: The difference? It's history. Muslims "head bowling", isn't history, it still happends -- Frequently.

Using examples that happend centuries ago is like me tracing your bloodline back to some heinous bastard, and using that against you -- It's absolutely absurd!

SO now any painting that draws political violence is considered art and has nothing to do with politics? imo that's the biggest most idiotic thing i've ever heared.

No it isn't, it's like comparing like with like. The headbowling isn't happening in Iran, Kuwait or Saudi or any of the advanced  Islamic cultures. It's happening in the primitive ones. (If it's happening at all).

Headshrinking is alive and well today amongst the christians of the Ivory Coast. God knows what they get up to on Haiti.
