Gates of Who?

How has Gates of Discord changed the game, if it has?

Just curious about the state of the game. I haven't played since 12/19/03, but I will be rejoining the ranks of active players soon.

Well, I quit EQ over Gates, so I am biaised but anyway, here is the view of someone that dislike it (go to EQluclin.com if you want many many advices on it, many are goods, just in General so no need to register to see flames and rants)

    -  Leadership skills.  Althought it look nice at first, it mean only 1 player in group can work on those and use them to improve the group battle performances.  SoE obviously have never heard of Negative Leadership which is just as equally important(or shadow leaders).  If it was not enought to make it so only 1 player at the time can work on it and another accomplished leader cant improve his group unless made leader, they give it to every class, thereby any sane buffer will complain, this group enhancement belong to buffers, not to any non-buffer class.  Leadership is rarely frontal anywhere, anyone follow the lead of the person they want, be they above or under in the hierarchy it dont matter.  Many officers in the army will agree with me and confess that often they follow the lead of an under officer themselves, since it is appropriate for a precise thing or 2.  Leadership skills lead to exclusion of players between themselves.  Since you only return I will only advice to dont mind it and ignore the L thing unless nobody in group want, at least until you are back and feel confident refusing groups that dont give you leadership! :)  Many casuals dont mind it at all and are indee happy some players think like me, hehe, nasty nasty me.  (less XP to wonder if they should work on it or not, which make them focus on others...for me, I was AAs maxed at GoD start with an extra 30 waiting, so leadership is mine if I group, period, which make folks send me harsh tells, *shrug*, I quit over this issue alone and I will not cede XP working to anyone ever, I rather just log or quit then not be leader with the way it work atm)

However the others changes are *nices*, but they dont correct any issue you might have with EQ, they smooth them althought.  Best group gear mostly belong to raiders still, but it is not as bad as it was!  This is what was making me believe in EQ2 they would learn and do otherwise, now I am confused!  It is a little like LDoN but without a *(&^$^& timer everytime, which is good I believe, saddly no more points which I was looooving.

I haven't really heard too much about the leadership thing, so I do thank you for the info. That sounds like something my husband would go in for though. He might like GoD. (He was a 65 cleric, tons of AAs, and one Bertoxxulous kill away from elemental flagged when he quit... The problem being scheduling on that one.)

I didn't get LDoN when it came out, for a number of reasons. Since I have to 'start over' I thought that I might get LDoN and skip GoD for a few months.

Leadership skills would have been cool if AAs for certain class. :)

Nothing in the list is bad in itself, it is the way it is for group leader only that make it lack so much and aggro me, especially when folks insult me and say they will never group me based on a little LFG message saying:  Working on Leadership. :)  The fact they would never have want to group with me dont matter much, the fact they take time to insult me and tell me names, /shrug.  :)  Yes, I will work on any AAs, no I will never actually make a group unless there is a major reason(exceptions based).

Leadership skills have no place in groups in current form, they need to be just eaten by the AAs system and awarded to the class you think that deserve it.

I honestly prefer LDoN over Gates in the way they design instanced zones, but the lack of timer for some missions is great, always been in a hurry is not good, hurry need to be an exception.  If Gates get more success then LDoN it will be either because of the timer thing or for loots.  LDoN points and augments are great ideas, as everyone get a fair share and there is no opposition on who or who can roll and wear item and if someone just plan to transfer in bazaar and make PPs.  I dont see how it is wrong that someone get points if they take 5 hours, it is not wrong at all, but it will most likely be to few to keep them motivated, so you need to find a way to motivate them.  Points get you an idea of how fast you progress where random drops dont, so of course you get much more fast reactions(instead of delayed hatred when the player understand he work for so little).  Timer is nice sometimes, not always. :)  The idea is to make fun, been always always always rushing against a timer is hard for many folks.

I think with points they should do this:  Make it *easier* so casuals find it motivating, put a daily limit on every player, you still can XP hunt, but no more points, the guys there already took notice that you clean the garden, washing the car wont improve anything for you today, but tomorrow sure thing.  Or something, but I understand they need to make it nice for casuals while making it motivating for hardcores, maybe there could be some specialised points once you earn an amount each days.  Specialised points would buy stuff only hardcores want, casuals not caring about those items.  Putting an official line there will get you a few curses from some casuals at first, but with time, they will like it much and know, this is insane timesink and not for them and so they will just avoid it unless they plan to be hardcores for a while...

If LDoN gear would have been the best gear for someone in a group, I would most likely have over 1k victories(prolly would be close to 1.5k now if I would have keep working an insane rate, but with another expension would have stop most likely) and would not even have been in top 10. :)  Folks really love the system, it just need to be tuned to be the best group reward which i dont think EQ want to do.
