Assuming there would be pre-CU SWG servers...
Question 1: Should player Jedi exist in the game?
If yes, continue to question two.
If no, just say no and your done.
Question 2: How powerful should Jedi be?
Question 3: How should Jedi TEFs work?
Question 4: Should there be perma-death for Jedi?
Question 5: How shall one obtain Jedi, and how hard would that be?
Question 6: Would there be a limit to how many Jedi there can be on one server at a time?
Question 7: How should Imperials deal with player Jedi?
Question 8: How should Rebels deal with player Jedi?
Question 9: How should smuggler factions (Hutt, Black Sun) deal with player Jedi?
Question 10: Must a Jedi become an Imperial or Rebel to become a dark/light Jedi?
Question 11: Would you allow players to learn not only dark Jedi abilities, but Sith techniques as well?
Question 12: What kinds of skills can the Jedi learn?
OKAY I'LL DO MY OWN NOW:
Question 1: Should player Jedi exist in the game?
Yes
Question 2: How powerful should Jedi be?
As powerful as in the movies ... pawadans just a little better than the best PvPers, but master Jedi extremely powerful and would have the ability to take down many players.
Question 3: How should Jedi TEFs work?
Perma-TEF. The Jedi are being hunted at this point of time in the storyline of Star Wars.
Question 4: Should there be perma-death for Jedi?
NO. I believe perma-death is WRONG ... all of that work for nothing? Pfft.
Question 5: How shall one obtain Jedi, and how hard would that be?
Everybody would have the ability to become a Jedi. All characters would have a, "midichorlean" (spelling?) count. To raise the number of "mcs" you have, you must collect badges. You know, visit places, do theme parks, and master professions would be a big one. Each mastered profession gives you 250 mcs, every POI gives you 25 mcs, every theme park badge gives you 100-150 mcs. Completing the death watch bunker or something such as that would grant you more mcs as well.
Once you have 10,000 mcs, you unlock the skill set for Jedi Padawan. From there, you can only gain mcs from developing your Jedi abilities. Every player has the ability to reach 25,000 mcs, if they do EVERYTHING --- which would be extremely difficult. Rare crystals will be placed in the game that would boost your mc count, as well. These rare crystals are either attracted to the dark side, or the light side, and may enhance your ability to use one or the other. MCs would not be that important, as someone with a mc count of 10,000 could be able to defeat someone with a mc count of 25,000, but the higher your mc count, the more potent your force abilities become.
Question 6: Would there be a limit to how many Jedi there can be on one server at a time?
No ... I think the requirements are already hard enough.
Question 7: How should Imperials deal with player Jedi?
Imperials hate Jedi. If you become a dark Jedi, you will be able to learn both the dark and light side, but at the same time, you will be hunted down by Imperials, Rebels, just about everybody will want your ass.
Question 8: How should Rebels deal with player Jedi?
The Rebels would welcome any light Jedi to fight with them --- but then restrict the player's ability to use the dark side. Rebels try to kill dark Jedi.
Question 9: How should smuggler factions (Hutt, Black Sun) deal with player Jedi?
They hate them. If a player Jedi comes into view, smuggler factions will most likely try to kill the Jedi.
Question 10: Must a Jedi become an Imperial or Rebel to become a dark/light Jedi?
To become a light Jedi, one must be a Rebel. If you are a Jedi, you cannot become an Imperial. This is why the Rebels would have somewhat of an advantage, and to combat this advantage, Imperials upon the next patch would recieve technology suprior to that of the Rebels --- making the experience diifferent on both sides.
Question 11: Would you allow players to learn not only dark Jedi abilities, but Sith techniques as well?
No ... Sith techniques are only used by Darth Vader and the Emperor. That's why they are stronger than everyone in the first place.
Question 12: What kinds of skills can the Jedi learn?
[Jedi Initiate] - Four skill branches
Once the Jedi masters all four of the skill trees, he/she can become a Jedi Padawan. Upon becoming one, he/she must choose if he/she will be either light or dark sided. He/She with this choice unlocks Light Force Powers and Dark Force Powers, as well as Light Jedi Padawan or Dark Jedi Padawan.
The rule is, if you master one of the skill branches under Padawan, you may only go forward with that skill branch. Therefore, there is only, "Novice Jedi Initiate" & "Novice Jedi Padawan", and no more "novice" or "master" bars after that.
[Light Jedi Padawan] - Allowed to light Jedi only. - Four skill branches
[Dark Jedi Padawan] - Allowed to dark Jedi only. - Four skill branches
[Neutral Force Powers - Padawan] - Allowed to dark and light Jedi. - Four skill branches
[Light Force Powers - Padawan] - Allowed to dark and light Jedi. - Four skill branches
[Dark Force Powers - Padawan] - Allowed only to dark Jedi. - Four skill branches
Once the Jedi masters four of the skill trees, he/she can become a Jedi Knight. Jedi Knights get specialization, like in KOTOR. You may diversify as a Jedi Guardian, who focuses on lightsabers, Jedi Consular, who focuses on Force powers, or a Jedi Sentinel, who dabs in both.
[Light Jedi Knight] - Allowed to light Jedi only. - Four skill branches
[Dark Jedi Knight] - Allowed to dark Jedi only. - Four skill branches
[Neutral Force Powers - Knight] - Allowed to dark and light Jedi. - Four skill branches
[Light Force Powers - Knight] - Allowed to dark and light Jedi. - Four skill branches
[Dark Force Powers - Knight] - Allowed only to dark Jedi. - Four skill branches
Once the Jedi masters four of the skill trees, he/she can become a Jedi Master. Jedi Masters get specialization, like in KOTOR. You may
diversify as a (Dark) Jedi Weapon Master/Marauder, who focuses on lightsabers, (Dark) Jedi Master/Lord, who focuses on Force powers, or a (Dark) Jedi Watchman/Assassination, who dabs in
both.
[Light Jedi Master] - Allowed to light Jedi only. - Four skill branches
[Dark Jedi Master] - Allowed to dark Jedi only. - Four skill branches
[Neutral Force Powers - Master] - Allowed to dark and light Jedi. - Four skill branches
[Light Force Powers - Master] - Allowed to dark and light Jedi. - Four skill branches
[Dark Force Powers - Master] - Allowed only to dark Jedi. - Four skill branches

I know perma-death is asking too much, and I could be talked into not losing skills upon death but that's because my Bears won and I'm feeling magnanimous.

My thoughts on jedi....
First, there should not be "light jedi" and "dark jedi," jedi were jedi, they had a code by which they lived...it should be "jed" and "sith."
Second, jedi should be hidden if the game is set in the Luke/Vader time period. The emperor, through Vader and the clones, had attempted to kill off all jedi. In episodes 4-6 we have Yoda and Obi that survived plus Luke, the only sith shown is Vader so I do not know if any other sith existed or not and how hidden they were(not familiar with the "canon" outside the movies). Being as jedi are what I know about, here is how I see them working:
-- Jedi should be rebel aligned at this point in the story.
--The "village" was secretive and hidden but it was only part of unlocking jedi. Jedi should have their own planet. Something similar to where yoda was living. This is where lower level training would take place. Lightsaber would unequip upon leaving planet. Equipping lightsaber or using jedi skillls on any other planet while lower level would be at risk of heavy penalties (not perma-death but things such as loss of xp/skills, inability to access jedi planet for a certain amount of time, needing to perform certain quests in order to re-earn access to jedi planet, being overt to the point that imperial NPC would get one-shot kills and imp players that are x levels below you would have an easier time than normal killing you..you are a known jedi and the emperor wants you dead, and/or the classic ending up on bounty hunter terminal; penalties could be random, a combination of a few, or leveled accordingo how many times player has been caught using jedi skills...either in first time a happens and second time b happens or first time a and second time a and b). As jedi skills increased quests to gain skills would begin to take them off planet. They would need to be careful about being seen but penalties would not be as high unless they were just standing outside some major starport waving the saber around.
-- In order to advance, high level jedi should be grouped with non-jedi and the xp should be based on the size of their group and the amount of members they were able to keep safe.
-- Jedi should be able to keep one of their elite combat profs...they should not be waving the saber around all the time and should not feel that it is their only option in combat. The amount of jedi specialties a person can use when lightsaber is not equipped should be VERY limited.
-- Jedi should have their own combat channel. Think of it as the "force" that allows them to know when someone is in trouble.
-- The process of becoming jedi --> always two there are, the master and the apprentice....There should be a system for getting "glowy" like there was in the village system but getting glowy does not automatically mean you get to try for jedi. Once a player becomes glowy, jedi who have reached a certain level will be able to tell that the person is glowy. A master jedi can choose to take on another person as an apprentice. A master jedi can only have one apprentice at a time. It would be in character details much like unity but, unlike unity, a person would not be able to just break the union anytime the person wanted. The union would be disbanded by the system if one of the players did not log in for a set amount of time. A master could not drop an apprentice. An apprentice could drop a master but with some penalty and only after a set amount of time (this would prevent the problem of getting stuck with a bad master and never being able to make jedi, a master with a bad apprentice is just one less person producing another jedi but putting a time frame on it would keep someone from getting a new master every time they log in based upon who else is on). For an apprentice to access the jedi planet, the person needs a master with them and the person can only get jedi xp when the master is around. Once person reaches set level in jedi, the master is no longer needed. The master would then have a set time before being able to get another apprentice. If for some reason the number of masters fell below a certain percent on a server (in combination with the number of jedi no longer needed a master to advance), Master Jedi npcs would become available. If master jedi became available, due to resubbing or such, they would need to either take over the training of an apprentice from npc or wait the length of time it took for npc to complete training along with the normal wait period between completing training and getting new apprentice. The spawning of npc would take care of the first round of apprentices. With npc, the apprentice is the first person to qualify or the person who has been waiting the longest (glowy player who never got picked up by a player as apprentice). The possible apprentice gets an in-game email on how to locate npc and a set amount of time in which to respond to the email.

If no, just say no and your done.
No, Jedi should be NPC's

There are dark jedi and light jedi. Sith is not a profession, it is a religion or belief, a counter-teaching of the jedi way. A jedi does not align with Sith to be evil, they follow the path into the dark side of the force thus becoming "dark jedi".

Jedi, as already stated, can align with either light or dark, as well as Sith or neutral.
Looking at replies to the poll and all the comments makes me laugh.
This game has been on self destruction since day LA finally bullied the last of the verrant staff that worked on the game.
Sure i acknowledge there are many who just wanna hold a LS no matter what and be super powerful and indeed after the first year that was the majority of the crowd since the RPers left.
But honestly i never saw why we never had a jedi free server. If ppl wanted to go and destroy the story in favour of holding a LS i think thts fair enough let them have the servers. But those that were intrested in the storyline and variety of other classes should have been given the option of a jedi free server.
SoE/LA made the classic mistake of trying to make us all exist on one world.Newsflash
1)some people do not want the storyline messed up
2)some people want to play other classes and stand a chance in pvp rather then have some super class require 3+ ppl to kill run around
3)some people realise that no mmorpg should have a super class exist. This makes the archers in DAoC pre nerf look weak.Jedi was the most unbalanced class ever to visit the world of mmorpg.
If there is to be a pre-cu server it should give the option of not having to witness this issues.Lets all play seperately.
Anyhow i suppose the next SW mmorpg will be a kotor or somewhere far beind so guess we all be jedis sadly
Being one that unlocked in patch 6 I can tell you that so many people had so many ideas, so many people thought they knew what was best, thought they knew how or what it was like, thought they should dictate what Jedi should be or post or rant about it on the boards.
This is what I learned most of what that meant: Jealously, Anger, Ignorance.
So far these were the constant AFTER the first 3 months for me.
It's amazing this is how it went down though, I went from getting tells, and anyone that saw me offered HELP, protection while grinding, or even credits. TO.... being spit on, smack talked to, A constant duel pop-up that was nothing more then, a Ego driven fight... just to see if they could win. Jedi was intended to be pitted against each other, but somthing happend along the way. Normal class toons, assumed they should be able to beat down or win against one... all the time. It was bizzare, we went from being hidden to being a testing pole for templates.
For the most part I loved Jedi, supported it, helped it, tested it in all it's stages of beta and pubs, enjoyed it with my guild and friends. But what it became after pub 10 changed things, it got worse about pub 13 or so.. then just started getting worse.
The FRS was a good idea, handled wrong... it was a game within a game for completed templates. Once again people did not know what it was like, but thought they did and raved about it left and right.
I mean seeing a Non-Jedi bitching about the FRS is and was a joke... Yes, the FRS had issues, but every single thing in SWG had issues, this was about someone getting somthing that sombody else did not. They could have fixed so many things but they ended up in the end ruining Jedi in the name of marketing.
The NGE needed a carrot and they made Jedi into this. They needed somthing to get back some people, keep some people during this time, try to get back all the people that (claimed) they did not like Jedi but hurried back to get a free one in the NGE. At least the NGE Jedi is more of a Brawler with a saber...not the same at all, no force bar, no look or feel as it once did.
I guess in the end, we have our screen shots, our memories and the best part was being able to play Jedi when it was "Jedi" -- no easy game, alot of risk, decent reward and being rare. You had to think, read, plan, invest countless hours of time just to move up very little. It was a great thing to get that unlock music and then to make a toon that had that pink force bar to feed from.
Oh... and we did not have some freaking "force polearm" crap or some "Robe" to start.... you got, newb clothes, 50 credits, a maroji melon and jack and shit until you figured out how to get your toon going.
Freaking... force pole arm, who the fuck thought this one up.??
Jedi Knight Iskareot' Kenshi' (Not this fake NGE title naming crap either)
ALSO: I would like to add that the term "Alpha class" was so overused and so overated that I don't think that 50% of the server popualtions had a clue about what that meant. They just jumped on the train of "going along with"..

Heh, RIAA would disagree with you.
P2P software doesn't pirate the music and movies. It's users that do.
Yet, they have in the past shutdown many applications and web sites that *could* be used for piracy.
Ironic, isn't it, how industry determines what is right and what is wrong. Because NRA claims the exact opposite from RIAA.
Just a tidbit I always find funny when justifying various acts.

Tefs solved this back then.
I loved hiding, only using it in public when getting attacked.
So many things made more sense, fit the role and was more fun. Hiding was great, people hated it because of some common sense issues, i.e. (Grouped guild members should not have gave visibility back then) ---
Crap finding out how visibility worked was even crazy. We went for months with 0 clue how or what got us on the boards. We all just guessed.
So many things were funny then. Normal players would see NPCs that gave a quest or misson, or training, we would see them as Force Trainers.
There is things that could have stayed in place to move Jedi into different places without worry of them being stupid. I do know that most of the NGE Jedi could not handle 5 days in the old way.. just seeing them mad about a robe, or worried about a stat on a lightsaber shows this.
Tell them they will lose a skill after they die three times and see what they say lol. Hell, they were complaining about being hunted in this system even. No loss, no decay, no visibility even. lol, to funny.

Believe me, I take great offense at what happens to P2P software companies. The very act of providing software that COULD be used to make illegal copies is not illegal. I could take my monitor and bash an RIAA exec's head open with it, but that would not make ACER responsible IMO. Not that our goofy court system is guaranteed to return an innocent on that one.
Another piece of irony here is that member companies of the RIAA used to and still manufacture, sell, and distribute tape recorders, VCRs, and DVD recorders with no protections or easily circumvented protections for copyrighted material. Including our favorite whipping boy, Sony.
Before the RIAA collects a single dime from a application developer or website provider for alleged copyright violations, I would like to see these members of the RIAA sued for every count of their participation in the illegal copying of electronic works. If they cannot be held culpable for the same thing the P2P software companies and individuals are, the RIAA should have no legal grounds for anything. IMO, none of them are guilty.
In general, big corporations suck.
Sorry about the thread hijack Mr. OP.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever
For that matter, anybody who places music or video onto a CD or DVD that ends up being copied is guilty of participating in copyright infringement according to the RIAA's logic.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever
Reasons why?
1) The game economy worked because everyone played the type of character that they enjoyed contributing to the collective game world in the way that best suit their individual playstyle.
2) The jedi from the EU were too powerful to be accurately portrayed in a balanced and fun MMORPG. When one player skill set is decidedly more powerful than the others it is played more than the others which destroys balance and competitive fun for anyone not participating in the over powered character skill set.
3) When this game originally launched, it was set in a specific time period. During this time period there were no active jedi.
4) I have watched the films a few times now I and I still don't see the part in the movies where Jedi walked around town slaughtering people for kicks or worse for their credits, weapons and clothing.
Former SWG beta tester and player
i enjoy playing a stormtrooper, so i like having jedi to hunt. by all means, allow jedi. just go back to the 6+ month unlock thing, that way we can make sure we don't have 300 jedi on every server.
just being able to run into a jedi should be a rare and fun thing. make people WORK for it. earn it.
Question 1: Should player Jedi exist in the game?
If yes, continue to question two.
If no, just say no and your done.
Yes they should be in the game, but not called Jedi, they should be called Force Sensitive, or something to that nature.
Question 2: How powerful should Jedi be?
Very powerful I feel they should have all the power and abilities they have in the movie, I feel they should be able to handle 2 to 8 attackers depending on their skills and abilities. But I also feel that the attackers should be able to group themselves up to 14 players against their target, and share the reward or fight it out amongst each other at the end.
Question 3: How should Jedi TEFs work?
I will need to think about this a bit.
Question 4: Should there be perma-death for Jedi?
Yes, if you want to develop your character into the most powerful warrior in the galaxy that no one or small group of attackers can stand against, you should also have the major disadvantage of losing everything you worked hard to get. This will stop these dicks running around out in the open turning on their fruit loop stick. Sure you will be very powerful, but if you show off you will get known, and whole groups are going to come and take your ass out and you will lose it all. It will mean that Jedi’s would need to be very careful be aware of were they are and what they are doing and practice a great deal of discretion.
Question 5: How shall one obtain Jedi, and how hard would that be?
It should be very hard to obtain, I feel that there should be no one way to become a Jedi, I feel that a player should have to work hard to reach a certain point in the development of their character, the path to Jedi should be very elusive and difficult to find, I also feel that the way you become a Jedi and the path you take through quests an such should be changed by the Developers ever six months or so, so that when players start posting information on how to become a Jedi easier, it will not work due to the quests and paths to becoming a Jedi being replaced to a new way.
Question 6: Would there be a limit to how many Jedi there can be on one server at a time?
No their would not be, with Perma death and Perma lose everything all together, along with the difficult time and hard ship to develop your character towards that path, and the fact that with the path to becoming a Jedi being changed on a regular basis, the only players who are going to invest that sort of time and game play are role players, the ones who take a mature approach to the game, it will not appeal to these “hey look I got me a new glow rod imam going to own you byotch”.
Question 7: How should Imperials deal with player Jedi?
Blow them away with extreme prejudice. I also feel that if there is a Jedi who is being to open about who they are, the Imperials should have special hunter squads who can drop into a city a start port or even out in the wilderness at any given time to hunt down that particular Jedi.
Question 8: How should Rebels deal with player Jedi?
They should be sympathetic to them, they should help protect them and or set up arrangements for them to be smuggled out, or set up in a new safe location if they are being pursued by Imperials, if they become to well known, the Rebels should be able to give them new identities that sort of thing, that would all require the help of both Smugglers and Crafters.
Question 9: How should smuggler factions (Hutt, Black Sun) deal with player Jedi?
This is interesting, I think they should be able to smuggle Jedi, I think they should also be able to have the choice to either help the Jedi or not, they should be able to help them with a new Identity, disguises things like that. The same for Crafters.
Question 10: Must a Jedi become an Imperial or Rebel to become a dark/light Jedi?
No they should not, Jedi like Dark Jedi should have their own abilities to become either totally dark side or light side, or in between
Question 11: Would you allow players to learn not only dark Jedi abilities, but Sith techniques as well?
Yes they should be able to learn Sith Techniques as well, but only if they reach a certain point, if they reach a certain point they can go into some sort of special training to become like Mara Jade for example, it will give them a lot more power then your average Dark Jedi, but it will also put them more in the lime light and in return cause the Rebels and BH hired by Rebels and or other Jedi or BH hired by Jedi to hunt them more.
Question 12: What kinds of skills can the Jedi learn?
Holy cow, everything, I feel they should be able to learn all the abilities of Jedi whether it be Force push, Force jump, lighting, choke, battle meditation, mind control what ever all of it, but I feel it should take a long time and a lot of work to learn them as well, after a year a Jedi has learned maybe half of their abilities or less depending on how much they play.
This is a good topic but I don’t have time to really go into detail. Bring it on down now.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
I liked your entire post BlazinBlades and don't have a problem with your answer to question 10, but wonder if you would consider my view.
I like to think of Dark Jedi to be more Sith like - self centered with a disdain for anybody who does not further their own ends. So like you said, they could be Imp or Rebel or neither, it just depends on who they think will help them further their plans.
I think the same could go for Force powers. Dark Jedi should be able to use Light-like powers to their advantage, like healing others. It's not normal for a Dark Jedi to run around healing others, but there are times they can make others feel indebted to them by assisting. And use of Light side powers could be a deception too, to hide their true nature until the time comes to reveal themselves.
Force Choke is typically considered an evil, "Dark" power, but I can see a use for it by Light side Jedi as well. Stealth attacks...choke your enemy from a distance so he cannot yell for help and give you away.
Then again, if you give all Jedi access to both light and dark disciplines, the only thing that will separate the Dark from Light will be the personal judgement of the kiddie behind the keyboard. Then we will have to create Chaotic or Multiple Personality Disorder Jedi to accomodate them. Hmmm, I guess I must think this out further. Thanks for listening.

I do actually like that idea better, I think that if you are a Jedi light side or a dark Jedi or Sith I think they should be able to use whatever force powers they want to use and they should be able to develop those force powers, I like the idea of being able to develop skill points for each type of force power, but you only get to develop that particular force power by using it, you will get points that you can use to increase the skill and abilities and power of that particular force power.
So if you use force chock more often then say force lighting you will get more points to use in the skill development of forced chock then you would for force lighting over time. But that power has to be used legitimately, none of this just uses it on nothing hoping to get more points to build more skills into that power.
I also feel that if you as a force user you should have the ability to use both dark and light side powers. But if a Light side Jedi uses a dark side power it would drain him far greater then if a Dark Jedi had used the same Dark Side power, and the same would be true for the Dark Jedi using a Light side power.
If you were going to use a mix of both dark and light side powers, you could develop yourself into a Grey Type Jedi, because if you were a light Jedi using force chock it would drain you more, then if you were a Dark Jedi using a dark side power, were as a grey Jedi can develop himself to be balanced between the two but with no clear advantage with either side, so if a light side Jedi Light used a light side power, it would drain him less then if a Grey Jedi used the same light side power.
But if a light side Jedi used a dark side power, it would drain him more then if a Grey Jedi used the same Dark side power. Anyways I think it would all be really neat, and I am drinking a bottle of rum right now, so I may have just confused myself.
Oh and maybe if you are a light side Jedi it could take you a lot longer and more work to develop your dark side power then a Dark Jedi takes to develop the same power, and maybe even possible a Light side Jedi would not be able to develop the dark side power as extensively with skills as a dark side user developing the same power, and the same for the dark side user, using a light side power.
Another bottle done and another on da way woohooooooo, I could put a thong and go roller skating right now man. Bring it on down.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
