Television Game Shows

Okay, I hate TV. I will say that outright up front. But even I can get into certain game shows. Usually those that are intellectually inclined (e.g.- Trivia and Knowledge games shows). Yes, I can even admit it, that I watch Wheel of Fortune from time to time.

What I was wondering is if anyone here has ever actually been on a television game show? Or if you personally know someone how has? My aunt was on the Price is Right years ago and a friend of a friend is currently on Final Fu on MTV2 (not a traditional game show as much as it is a competition sport show).

The reason why I am wondering is most of these trivia shows seem to find some of the dumbest people possible to put on their programs. Save Ken Jennings, it's really rare to see someone hit it big. While watching Who Wants to Beat a Millionaire...er Be...I can usually sore through the questions without having to even think of using something like a lifeline. CashCab which is a fun show (which I got into because it followed "It Takes a Thief" but most people blow it on such trivial, no pun intended, questions.

Now I know I am not some end-all genius that would be the only person to be able to do this. In fact, I know quite a few people here on MMORPG.COM that could sore through these questions just as easily if not easier. That makes me wonder if these shows really do screen for stupid people and some sneak in...or should we all be getting on these game shows to have tons of money?

Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

Good mate of mine, who incidentally was just staying with us for a few days and left this morning..... got accepted for a gameshow here called "Wheel of Fortune", basically a word association game. Anyway he will never live down the fact that he failed the audition

Hes a pretty smart guy and he just choked LOL!

Well the trouble for smart people on Millionaire is getting through the first few questions, because they are generally so low tech that you actually may not know the answer.

For example there was a guy on the Oz Millionaire who was like a Chemist, commercial pilot, degrees in about 3 other subjects etc etc and the host is going "SWEET your gonna do well". He used all his lifelines trying to answer like the 4th question for $1000 or something pathetic, which was "what was the name of Delta Goodrem's latest recording?" and hes like..... "who #$%@en knows" ROFL

I mean lets face it if you knew the answer youve probably already been lobotomized anyway...

I can see some of the "simple" things on Millionaire getting some people. Watching what I have of that those are usually mind numbingly stupid questions. Though every once in a while you get some off the wall difficult question for that $500 mark and you just feel bad for the player.

I can also see how "choking" could affect most people. Personally, I am about as shy as a tornado, so I can't relate to that. But I can go as far as understanding how that could affect some players.

The thing that always gets me are the "fine prints" about players be "pre-screaned" and what I want to know is did someone like old Ken Jennings sneak by? Also, I want to see the couple of times where the given game show has had to say "Um, we like you and all, but hell no. We may as well just cut you the check and have you walk away right now and save ourselves the airtime."

Yeah i think with the media being how it is these days. They wanna make sure they arnt going to give someone a bunch of cash, only to find out they are wanted in 5 states when a rival network does an "expose" LOL

Actually i watched this one episode of Who wants to be a millionare and this guy answered every question right without using any life lines.  Right before his million dollar question he used his calling lifeline to tell his dad that he was a millionare and then he answered the question becoming a millionare...it was pretty cool

I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people

The questions on Millionaire aren't about your smarts. It's just if you happen to know some random fact about something more than anything else. If you look at the high dollar questions, you could have every degree in the world and still have no idea what the answer is.

I watch Jeapardy and Cash Cab. I just wish that they'd drop the segments where the contestants are interviewd and the segments that explain the game over and over again.

I also have watched the celebrity poker thing on Bravo if the contestents are funny.

When I was in school I was on the winning team for a locally produced quiz show. I think the viewship for the show was roughly equal to the family and friends of those who were on the show. But we did get $500 for our school.
