It's a game. Get rid of the houses. Cry less, live more.

Did they stop people killing enemies in the wake of the genocide in Gaza? Or Sudan? Or the war in Ukraine?

Awful, awful things happen all the time.

Perhaps they should stop healing in the wake of Luigi?

    Ridiculous.

This is one reason why FFXIV devs are different, in a good way. Not the first time the timers have been paused during the many mass
chaotic irl things happening. Whoever has a problem, QQ moar.

A terrible event, my thoughts are with all those affected by this disaster.

Re FFXIV: The game continually struggles, not only with the number of houses, but critically with the nature of these.
Acknowledging this may be different in other geographical areas: In the European Server containing Chaos/Light worlds, small houses always appear to be available. It's when a medium or large comes on the market the lottery stampede begins.

As an interim step it would make sense, at least in these server worlds and maybe others, for SE to revise the housing sizes/layouts in line with player preferences.

I really am puzzled when studios do something like this, it is just virtue signalling and I really doubt that someone who has lost their actual home is going to be that bothered about the one they have in a game.

Anyway, lets hope they get control of those fires soon, it is a test case on why you should never put the green agenda above your core responsibilities of governance. As I am getting political that is my last post on this thread.

This is not virtue signalling. They gain absolutely nothing by doing this.

    It's virtue signaling.

Maybe it is just for image, but it still helps people who've lost a lot. Even though it's just a game, having fluffy things taken from us, in the middle of real loss, can be demoralizing and it's cold. Even if they're virtue signaling, it's a compassionate gesture and at least it isn't hostility or disdain like some people have shown. I think it's okay just for that reason alone.

It's a gesture of sympathy toward those going through an exceptionally difficult time and needn't be anything more than that. The virtue signals people may choose to feel attached to it aren't particularly negative ones and are already widespread.

This is what politics lead to, terminally online troglodytes that laugh at people suffering. It's either modern 'liberals' or blatant conservatives who do it to 'own the libs'.

Because it's not about those who lost their homes, but more for evacuees that may still have a home. A wide spread net. People that move from one of the 5+ fires in California can relocate to another state during that time.

And then there's this: LA is considered a hub for the gaming industry due to the area's history with development studios, home to developers, media publications, and industry stars such as content creators and professional competitive gamers , including Square Enix's North American headquarters.

Also "They gain good will articles like this saying how much they care.
    It's virtue signaling."

That's not how virtue signaling works. By your terminally online definition, anyone showing any care for anyone that doesn't live in their narcissistic westernized bubble can't show any thoughts to another living being.

They gain nothing. Good press? They've done it before, what makes NOW different than prior?
What did people say during this? "Previously, housing demolition was temporarily held off due to Hurricane Helene in Florida and elsewhere in the Southern states, which caused at least 246 deaths and an estimated $124 billion in damages. "

Silence, because not many people are invested.
Yet now, people decide to whine?

    How odd, isn't it?

You terminally online troglodytes sure hate having humanity and compassion.

Here's a tip: get off the internet and you'll be healthier.

    Let me guess...trump voter?

idk, that guy only troll posts here....to be honest it looks like two ugly homeless people to me. Maybe his tent burnt down in the process of cooking meth and he started the fires, now he's losing his marbles and thinks it's funny.

To be fair, I saw a lot of left leaning people mocking the victims of the Florida hurricanes a few months ago and saying they deserved to lose their homes for being Trump supporters. Mean spirited people aren't exclusive to just one side of the political spectrum. It's gross no matter who does it.

Probably mostly Russian trolls trolling both sides and people fall for it. I see a lot of folks from all over going to these disasters to help out when the need arises. I know some fire fighters from my town are there now helping.

This is standard operating procedure for this game during times of crisis. They've done it during the floods in Spain and hurricanes here in the US, for example. I don't think you can really call it virtual signaling given the consistency and frequency of the suspensions.

Virtue signaling implies that someone is doing something more to display or "signal" to everyone around them that they support some cause as opposed to truly believing in the cause and being invested in it. It's more about appearing to be on the "good guy" team than actually being a good guy. This would be the person who buys a Tesla because it's popular to be green but trades it in 6 months later for an ICE vehicle when they figure out that charging it is too inconvenient for their personal schedules and habits. It was more about appearing to be green than actually be willing to make the personal sacrifices to be green.

I grew up thinking that gamers were generally chill, intelligent people. (Guess that came from not playing Call of Duty.)

Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong. Lots of oxygen thieves among my peers.

You got some good points here, I suppose we could put this in the 'better than nothing' category. But can you see how "You terminally online troglodytes sure hate having humanity and compassion." is an overreaction to what was a calm post on my part?
