Wait the origins server goes Echoes of Faydwer? They originally said it won't go that far. What a pleasant surprise.

Nice. It looks like Origins is doing well then since now the plans extend the server life.

Remove the progression servers which do nothing for the majority of the population of retail servers and also remove all of the tired yearly events, and that "roadmap" looks to be mostly a barren dirt path.

Everytime I take a look at EQ2 it is dead as a doornail.....I'm always told how populated it is but there doesnt ever seem to be anyone around other than a handful of people.. My guilds are all dead.

I always wanted to get into EQ2, but the lore and everything seems so enormous, overwhelming. While the game itself is interesting and has some very nice systems, it is a handful to get into it. Tbh.

It may be too late for you now, but it was a guild fav for a few years. Its interesting as a sequel that has different lore which is based on the first game. They set EQ2 500 years in the past, so if you knew your EQ1 lore there must have been a lot to remind you of the first game.

I think the changing in gameplay systems was what put of EQ1 fans the most, but as we have discussed elsewhere creating a MMORPG sequel is like making a poison chalice. You often end up with no one being really happy about it.

EQ2 is 500 years in an alternate timeline future, not the past.

Was it the future? It has been yonks since I played and that is showing. I never played the original mind you, but I do remember guilders talking about the old and new lore.

You never played Everquest. Hmm might have to have your posting rights on these forums revoked for lack of fundamental MMORPG knowledge and experience. We will review this decision after you have played Everquest. Please direct all appeals to staff within 24 hours or this decision will be irrevocable. Any inconvenience caused is regrettable (hehe not feeling bad at all).

I knew only the basics. It was thoroughly overwhelming to the point of it being unplayable.

Yeah I can't remember exactly how it works, but it's basically that somewhere around Luclin or Planes of Power in EQ, the timeline splinters in two and then EQ2 is basically 500 years in that second timeline's future. It's dumb regardless, and they would have had a much better run if they'd stuck to being just EQ in 500 years. People would have been more inclined to play both EQ/EQ2 as a before/after. Instead, in trying to not divide the playerbase, they divided the playerbase hard because not only was it a new game, it wasn't even based on the EQ everyone was currently playing.

It was a move likely used for creative freedom; the problem is that many adaptions, new games etc use a move like that to put in any nonsense that come into their heads. As you say sticking to one timeline would have been a surer footing for the lore.
