Thank you for the article. I am very excited for the game and hope it turns out well. The PVP aspect concerns me but I think there will be enough to do outside of just PVP that I will stay busy. Of all the game in 2025, this is number 1 on my list.
Is this an actual MMORPG with one world and hundreds+ playing together or a bunch of small dedicated servers? I like MMORPG's with a lot of people (SWG, UO, EQ, PG, Pantheon, etc). To me it helps grouping, avoiding being ganked, player economy is great, etc.
I'm afraid this is not a real MMORPG. Funcom markets it as an "open world survival MMO". Read somewhere that it is based around social hubs and survival maps with up to 40 players.
Probably not my cup of tea, even as a Frank Herbert stan.

They said the Deep Desert(open PvP area) will support 100's with server meshing Apparently.
So far this is my most anticipated mmo at this time. Say what you will about Funcom, they have the experience needed the bring a big project like Dune to fruition.
Would prefer something akin to Conan Exiles, give me options/cheats. If not, full blown mmo, not something inbetween I can't mod/alter. Anyway, one of the few games of the decade I'm hoping...... might be decent.
"Though Dune: Awakening borrows from Herbert’s rich world, it takes place in an alternate timeline within that universe. It gives the creative freedom to Funcom to introduce new things while still keeping the essence of the original work. The Herbert family involved in the project, ensuring that any deviations from the source material maintain authenticity."
I really doubt this. As we all should know games (or any other form of entertainment) which use alternate timelines are an excuse for bringing in anything the studio wants. Plus the classes are not solid lore wise when they could have been.
They wanted to use IP brand as much as possible, so Mentats instead of Spy etc. The abilities could have been changed into something that does the same job but does not need special powers. Loads of Mentats and Bene Gesserit running around Dune is a bit silly.

I hope this turns out good. There are not enough sci-fi MMOs out there. There needs to be plenty of things to do at end game other than guild vs guild PvP to be a hit.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

Sad they chose to go with Funcom.
