Do mobile MMOs even do well? Just wondering. Lots of Asian mmos seem to rely on cross platforming their MMOs, especially Tencent.

I signed up for the beta. I know many see it as nothing more but a WoW clone, but if it's well done...
    ...well I signed up.

Wonder if they'll bung this one like the last one by not limiting testers to those invited but by login capacity.

Funny seeing a Chinese company talking about 'inspiration.'

These type of chinese mmo's don't get any more generic than this.

As a old fart whose been through all of these types of releases going back years, even decades now, i have this urge to tell the younger generation to 'watch out' - but sometimes you have to learn by experiencing the garbage first-hand.

Presumably, as some of the biggest companies are trying to get a piece of that action and not just Asian ones.

There has to be good profit potential in it.

They have also been evolving with time as well. Some available on both mobile and PC have differing interfaces to better accommodate each platform. There seems to be a move to more manual play at least in some cases.

I think they're less easy to dismiss as they once were, but still must be considered carefully especially in terms of monetization.

Short answer, yes, but the territory matters, also the phrase 'do well' should come with a heavy asterisk.

China has a bit of a history with mobile and PC mmorpg's behaving like revolving doors.  In it's earlier mobile days, they just made a lot of them, most of which would have something like upward to 100 to 1,000 servers that would rotate it's content with each new server opening; to maximize profit.

But about 4-5 years ago, a new trend(scheme really) in the Chinese mobile game market began being used, and that's making use of Googles beta program for Android devices to flip a game multiple times by just changing the game name.

A Chinese dev or group will submit a game in the beta program under 'whatevername X' - they launch the game, monetize it, which is allowed even in the beta program; then when they've exhausted a large chunk of willing players who will pay, or whales; they shut the game down, pull it out of the beta program; rename the game to 'something different Y', and resubmit the game -which the only difference is it's name- into the beta program, launch, monetize; rinse and repeat.

Then there are some game companies who have done the whole name flipping scheme without needing something like a beta program or even one of the mobile platforms to do it; as some game companies are well off enough to do name flipping under their own publishing platforms; like IGG or GTArcade to name a couple.

To me, this isn't what i'd consider success; but the gaming version of 'racketeering'

I'm excited to try it. It looks like the kind of game I would enjoy.

I signed up for it so will also give it a go if selected. With the perspectives expressed in the video I want to see how it came together.

On the first beta test Bitdefender blocked the install on my PC saying it was installing phishing software, so I didn't play. The second closed beta installed smoothly. The game looks and feels like Wow at first except there are too many cutscenes. The combat seems a bit off at first, then it is obvious as you get the mobile game feel. Everybody wants to make a game were you can play mobile and PC, but reality is to get the real immersive feel of a PC game you need two ports.

Game was designed from the ground up with no auto play. So there is that.

I have been reading up on this game. No P2W, monetization is mostly cosmetics but does have a battle pass. Trading goods only though AH, no option to use RL money to buy currency. Mobile play is for every day general game play but recommended PC play for things like Dungeons, RAIDs and PvP but you are welcome to try with your mobile. People playing on mobile said that you can do the big stuff if you have a controller attached to your device. I watched some dungeons and raids, they have real mechanics that look fun. As I said above, no auto play. Tones of options for customization with skills, more options then you can fit on your skill bar. PvP looks good but not balanced yet. Both Arena and Battlegrounds for PvP. Also its trinity, no dodge twitch combat but you can move and cast/attack. (((shrugs)))

Here is a 12 min video of a Dungeon Run from their last beta, about 4 months ago. Each boss mechanics gets a little deeper in the mechanics. You can jump around the video to just the boss fights. They have two modes for Dungeons and Raids. This was the easy mode but they do have Epic level on both Dungeons and RAIDS.
