I'm getting funny feeling the CMA is going to try and draw this out to try and push MS in a corner with date the ABK deal needs to be closed. Forcing their hands to paying or canceling.

Microsoft is giving the CMA the opportunity to save face and get with the program.

Otherwise they'll bury the UK and send it back to the stone age.  :)

We need to stop letting these companies buy up all the competition. We keep getting bad products because there's no reason to try and make anything better since they're all owned by the same company. Microsoft is getting too large. Similar with Amazon and Meta. We should collectively hate the oligopoly that they're creating.

I do think monopolies are always a danger, but I don't see that here. It is a big deal, but stares Sony in the face over decades of console exclusives.

Every regulatory body in the world needs to prove it is worth its funding, so it is hard to say how genuinely they feel this needs a Stop sign. Having looked over what they have said and seen comments from other areas of the government I expect them to seek another concession of some sort at most, but they will agree to the deal.

When MS tries to buy Ubisoft next year are idiots still going to be prattling on about Sony console exclusives?

What about when MS tries to buy Electronic Arts after that?

If a company wants to sell themselves, why shouldn't they be allowed to?

You forgot to mention Sony.  In relations to gaming revenue only, probably the largest of them all.  Right?  Or were you selectively picking on MS?

Personally, i think the deal would be better for us short term.  Long term, who knows....

I may need to go buy an XBox if this deal comes to fruition.

If this did happen, I would have deep concerns myself, but do you really think that's going to happen?

TBH i dont think ABK gonna change anything in xbox favor whar so ever.. All i see this doing is when Sony starts locking down big time studios dont be surprised when they come out and say well Games will be on a case by case basis i fully expect Destiny 3 to be PS5/PC only

Officials could still stop MS from buying Ubisoft or Electronic Arts even if they let this deal go through.

However if this deal goes through, it would more or less set a precedent which would allow Sony free rein to make purchases until their development is a big as Microsoft's + Activision Blizzard's combined. So we could see Sony doing stuff like buying Ubisoft, and being allowed to do it.

They can. Buying companies is the issue. When one company runs too large of a percentage, it stifles competition, innovation, and translates negatively for consumers (and employees).

    Clever things.

Plausible, you think this will start a buy-them-out war? The counter argument though is that we could raise that concern at any stage of the gaming industries development via buy-outs. So sitting on the fence here.

    Start a buy-out war? It's already begun.

Internal documents shown during the FTC lawsuit showed that MS ultimate plan is to buy up the entire video game industry and force Sony out of business.
