It's clear that opinions are split on whether Redfall is worth playing, or whether it's not quite ready to sink your teeth into. That begs the question, "Who should play Redfall?"

I personally think the reviews have been a bit over the top to be honest. It seems like everyone has now jumped on the "REDFALL IS BAD" bandwagon just to try and be cool because they see everyone else saying it. Same as how it's now cool to hate Blizzard, hate Bethesda, hate Bioware etc.

I'm not denying the game has its issues, as that would be ignorant of me to just completely disregard them, but it's still a fun game. Not EVERY game that comes out has to be a contender for GOTY, which seems to be what everyone wants nowadays. Back in the day you'd be content with several average games coming out throughout the year until you finally found that one amazing game that DID deserve the GOTY status. Redfall's not gonna win any awards, but to bash it as hard as it's been bashed recently is really over the top. It's not THAT bad.

No one should pre order games. Wait a few weeks for the dust to settle and honest reviews.

$90 is far too much for me to even consider this game.

    Nobody
The game has basically broken AI that can not even detect you if you are standing right next to it, or is unable to attack you if you stand on a chair.

The game is basically pre alpha state. And I mean pre being playable even.

There is many older games that do Redfall far better, and work. For example Dying Light is basically Redfall but many many times better. And its dirt cheap all times on sale.

I dont think you played it enough.
At first it seems fun because you seem pretty powerful. But then you realize its because AI is basically unable to pathfind or even see you for most of times.

And once you realise that you are able to cheese whole game without effort. Even the thoughest of bosses

    Its basically broken game

That's not my experience at all. Yes some enemies are bugged, but once you're past the first area it gets tougher. Some enemies still bug but you're acting like there's no danger or the game is faceroll easy and it's not.

The game is definitely worth a play on game pass 100%

Maybe but I am about to re-up my Gamepass Ultimate and get 3 years for $5 a month. It's really kind of hard to beat.

I just do the $15/mo and still think it's a great deal. As soon as Microsoft offers the Friend and Family account in North America, I'll upgrade.

GamePass has affected how I buy games and has saved me a lot of money by avoiding purchases I would otherwise regret. Now I buy games I really want to have in my library and also play a lot of cool games on GP.

The pricing of Redfall here is in line with EA, Ubisoft, 2K, ActiBlizz, and every other major publisher. I'd need to see stronger evidence that Redfall pricing is set to drive Game Pass subscriptions. I'd probably agree they have little motivation to set their box price aggressively, but it also doesn't seem priced to drive GP subs.

To answer the topics question: People who completely don't give a shit about quality

The fact that this 70€-pre-alpha-state-game get's mixed and not overwhelmingly negative reviews and there's so many people defending it just shows why AAA gaming is the way it is nowadays and why this probably won't change in the near future.

I get it that some people have fun with it because fun is completely subjective and bad taste exists but this dillusional state some people show is just mind-boggling. But who knows, maybe that 20+ YouTube reviews I saw and articles I've read are all staged with cool and edgy haters.

Anyways now that I hopped on the bandwagon I suddenly feel a lot cooler...

I'm just so glad indie-games exist

Sure as hell not me. I have just finished the latest Star Ocean and currently going through Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin which I will hopefully finish just in time before Diablo 4 and Final Fantasy 16 launch. So many good games right now, no time for average and below.

And damn, seems the Humble Bundle also just dropped WH40K Chaos Gate in my library….

A game can be "bad" and still be fun and worth playing.

Going back and looking at the critic scores for fallout 76, they were even worse than redfall.

But fallout 76 is one of the few games I go back to every year and has gotten pretty good.

There was a lot of doom and gloom back then about the game but it's come a long way.

I'm not even a little mad about the scores people can think what they want. I've enjoyed playing it, and it probably won't last me more than a month of play time, but there's nothing else out right now even remotely interesting to me.

No, a game cannot be bad and still worth playing. People have been too ready to write it off, but it is not the game for anyone now, play it when it is fit to play. This is just another game that has released too early, wait for a solid game and give two fingers to developers who think it is alright to put out games like this.

    From the article:

"or whether it’s not quite ready to sink your teeth into" Surely this is common sense, wait for the game is fit to play?

"Most notably, if you’re already a subscriber of Xbox Game Pass, you have nothing to lose in giving this game a shot." Game passes are pushing unfinished games upon gamers, this is just the beginning, "unfinished" could become the norm on a game pass.

A game can in fact be fun, but broken or full of bugs.  But undoubtedly it would have been BETTER without the bugs.

Like people are saying, some people have low standards.

If a game is bad, in todays world, thats REALLY REALLY bad to me.

To me most everything coming out is trash, so anything lower than average is going to be a heaping pile of it.

100% agree. With Bing and Gaming on Xbox earning point. I have 3 years of Gamepass saved up for free. MS Gaming maybe jinky at times but I have played allot of AAA games for the cost of a free sub. I think I paid for my first few months.

Played this for a bit last night and it has the feel of a 10 year old game. Also "features" some of the clunkiest gunplay I have experienced in a shooter in awhile.

The same people complaining about standards and how bad this or that is are the same people who will pick up a completely crap indie game and write off issues simply because it's got "early access" tagged onto it. It's all a matter of perspective. Just like I said in my post, fallout 76 was worse off that this game at launch and I still played it then because despite having issues it was still fun .

And everyday people are giving early access titles a pass on everything wrong under the sun simply because of an early access designation. Even when half the time those same games launch just as buggy. But it doesn't matter if you have fun with it.

The reviewer scores are everywhere from 9 to 4 on this game. It means some people really like it and some people really hate it. Do you believe the 9s or the 4s or the majority of the mixed reviews in between where everyone has their own opinion that can't be quantified as great or terrible?

I'm just saying that I played the game and really enjoyed it. I have my own opinions on what they could fix, but I doubt others would feel the same way. So yeah it's all relative to your experience and what you like.

It's not because people like "bad games" which people quoted what I said and must not have realized bad was in quotations, but I've seen people find fun in games I wouldn't touch if you paid me. It doesn't mean they just have poor standards or like terrible games, it means they see something you don't. Just like all these clown early access gamers that swear by indies... Can't tell you how many of those I've tried and have the same reaction. But they are allowed to like what they like, no crusade needed to prove them wrong.

The setting is the most striking thing about the game, I enjoy the atmosphere and sneaking around.

The enemies, the combat, the loot the lack of ingame systems and the way the world feels empty no matter how much of it you explore and do side missions in.

I wanted an atmospheric looter shooter that was enjoyable to explore in a grim almost secretworld esq vibe.

    What I got

A tech demo for a looter shooter without the AI implimented, boring loot systems dull progression, plenty of boxes to open but 0 reason to open most of them.

Everything it does, other games do better.

Want gun play, go play Destiny, Halo, Borderlands
Want to explore a city on the bring of collapse, go Play The Division (1 or 2) or FO 76
Want interesting loot, go play any of the above over this.

Want a crafting system, good luck.

Want to slowly take back a town from undead while building up the settlements and making them safer for the townsfolk, go play State of Decay 2.

Want interesting traversal systems go play dying light.

Want some brutal 4 player combat, Vermintide, B4Blood or L4Dead have you covered better than this.

Nothing this game does is well executed, except the atmosphere which took me back to wandering Kingsmouth when it was at its best.

I wanted to really enjoy this game, I wanted to give it a chance.

I am just glad I have gamepass anyway so I didnt pay for it, but its no longer on my hard disk, if they actually try and fix it and give it a year or so of love build out its systems and content put some actual AI and maybe a bit of challenge, I will give it another look in 9 or 12 months.

Otherwise this is deadder on arrival than Squares Avengers game....

Redfall would be a bad game if had released in 2015.

The AI is absolutely terrible, the characters are lifeless, the graphics are horrible, the progression is about as lackluster as you can get, the gunplay feels terrible (also built in mouth smoothing that you cannot disable, yay), it runs like crap on even some of the best systems out there, it runs at 30 fps on console while sporting scaled down graphics, and the game has loads of bugs (mostly ai related) To add insult to injury, the game is a massive 130 gigabytes.

This game is a waste of bandwidth, time, and money. Avoid it at all costs. If you want to play a good Arkane game: play Prey or Dishonored 1/2
