Should I play either of these two games, even if I don't like JRPG/Anime?

I should say I'm not a big fan of JRPGs at all, as I just can't see the appeal in the anime and weird art style that these games have. This is of course a personal thing, as I know there's millions of JRPG/anime fans out there.  That being said, I DO lof course love RPGs and have played so many of them over the past several years. I really like getting new powerful gear and unlocking skills/talents on my character.

I've been looking at playing either Yakuza: Like a Dragon or Dragon Quest XI, but not really sure if either of them will suit what I'm looking for.  I keep hearing that some of the unique selling points of Yakuza is that it's "whacky/hilarious, and doesn't take itself too seriously" but it's not really a unique selling point for ME.  It's neither here nor there for me really, it doesn't provide any more of an incentive for me to play something based on how "whacky" it is.

Is there anything in particular about either of these two games that is different from other RPGs, apart from the fact that they're JRPG/anime style?  Or are they just your basic RPG with a different coat of paint to Western games?

    Both games are on Microsoft Gamepass, which is available on PC. If you have never subbed to it I believe the first month is still one dollar. Both games are wildly different with DQ11 being a traditional JRPG and Yakuza: LaD being the complete opposite. Go get Gamepass so you can check them out both, they are very much worth it imo.

    And yes, both are vastly different from western RPGs.

    'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless. 

    It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

    It is just huge resource waste....'

    The thing about the Yakuza series, is even though they have Wacky or Funny parts, they aren't necessarily that way for very long portions of the game at a time. Those parts of the games are generally only there for a break from the serious portions of it. YLAD is great, and if you generally don't like JRPG's you may like it since it has enough variety to make it different enough.

    Dragon Quest 11 is about as much JRPG as a game can be. If you know you don't like JRPGs, then it's not really worth playing.

    Yakuza like a dragon is different enough that even if you don't like anime and usual graphic style of JRPGs, you might like it.

    If you dislike the traditional JRPG-style turn based battle system, then I'd advice avoiding both of those games.

    When you say you are not a fan, is it an intense dislike because if you really hate the art and cannot see past it don't bother with Dragon Quest 11.

    You can try the Yakuza one but if you have a strong dislike for the art style then it might be hard for you.

    I am so happy I love this art style because there are so many amazing games I would have missed otherwise.

    Maybe watch a little of their gameplay in youtube or twich to see if you get past your dislike for jrpg.
    As others have said dragon quest is your typical jrpg just really well done but the best golf simulator isnt gonna make me play it as I dont like golf for example.
    If you dont like either play something like solasta if you havent already:)

    Yakuza is freaking awesome. I can not recommend it enough for rpg fans. I think you have to like rpgs to like it. I am a passing jrpg fan. I only like the best ones. I really like Yakuza like a dragon.
