When Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds was first announced, a lot of players were excited to try out the new mobile MMO. But it soon became clear that it just wasn't the same as the original games that inspired it. Kanishka explores why that might be, and why Cross Worlds has seen the player base divided.

Games should stick to selling products, not investments.

It's just a platform to host crypto-mining bots and nfts. Get rid of that BS and rework the game to not be an auto-battler, and I think people would play it.

Also that pay to skip the queue is some extra shady BS... if they were in any other country they would probably have been investigated by now.

Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that the game was made as a way to get people to buy shit, rather than anyone caring about the story or the gameplay itself? It's a NFT farm game. It's a money sink. No one developing the title cares beyond that, and even if they do, their opinions don't matter. Because this was built as a money generating title first, and it has nothing to do with a desire to create an enchanting and memorable story.

This is a mobile game first and Blockchain game second.

It is NOT an NFT game. It's a blockchain token economy. They will eventually add NFTs.

The main thing is that the game itself is meant as an auto farm game. It's just not great.

But it's arguably one of the better Blockchain games on mobile.

The problem isn’t necessarily that it has NFT or blockchain underpinnings. It is a soulless game that has nothing in common with the beloved console games except it’s aesthetic. It is just plain not fun.

The reason this is "dead" is because every update is a focus on their blockchain crap. The crypto "events" and the obvious burning of currency is bad enough.

I quit because I looked at the Korean server. In English, a costume was being sold. That very same costume ended up being craftable in KR. What the hell? Sure, they probably added it later, but there's a matter of principle here. For all we know, it could've been originally free anyways!

The gameplay loop isn't bad for what it is, and bosses were fun for a spell, but the token-based upgrade method killed it. The only other way to gain power is by upgrading misc. gear and filling up a codex. which is a meaningless gold sink. The OTHER MASSIVE PROBLEM is this: The rule of a game with a gacha is that they must give you free currency to gacha with. That's what makes it a "gotcha" game. This is usually enough of a drip to allow a person to freely play the game. Cross Worlds barely gives ANY free currency. Why? Because most means of getting actual currency was turned into this token-crap. You're expected to buy many packs, and then to get ahead of others, to also buy these stupid tokens. Imagine buying a pack only to find out what you bought is useless because there are multiple barriers.

It had a decent story plus some bits of lore and connectivity with the other games. In Asia, it's more or less, free to play, so what do you actually lose? People also forget that casual games like these succeed well enough because there's a lot less toxicity. It's just like any other MMORPG, and once you start whining about originality and soullessness, EVERY MMO ends up being exactly the same: A meaningless timesink that didn't need to exist.

That speaks volumes about blockchain and mobile games. :)

"The introduction of cryptocurrency and NFTs is what led to the negative pushback from the community."

What a surprise, if only we could see more of this, developers might think twice before introducing blockchain and NFT's to every multiplayer game there is. Because if we don't object this will reach out beyond MMOs.

    NFT.

This is really it. I don't know if we needed a whole article here to explain auto play and a game flow that benefits whales and cryptocurrency. Also can we stop pretending like we can use NFTs in games for something innovative?
