Released less than two weeks ago, Tower of Fantasy has hit 10 million downloads. The team is also acting quickly to fix a serious issue and set compensation for the error.

........... is not much
500 dark crystals to those that didn't experience the issue. And 300 extra ones for those that suffered it, as well as a reversal (thus nothing lost, and 800 free dark crystals won). It sounds generous to me: 3-5 free pulls on whichever banner you choose, and some spare crystals after that. Genshin Impact would only give you 300 primogems at much, which converts to almost two pulls (160 primos per pull). And the rates and the pity on ToF are way better, which adds even more value to those free pulls. It was a good compensation for something that got fixed and reverted fast, and that didn't have any lasting consequences.
Well, you said it yourself: it was not entirely (key word, wink wink) meant to be taken seriously. But anyway, sure. You'll get your free 1500 crystals (and maybe more as a bonus! ?) in 4 weeks by playing only once per week. You'll get what you asked for with that measly effort. Isn't that a sweet deal? ?
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
How so?
I notice how people playing ToF keep using the better rates (as compared to Genshin) as a reason to play ToF over Genshin. I've played both and Genshin blows ToF out of the water in any other aspect like polish, gameplay and whatnot.
Which is kinda funny when you think about it.
I'm not a super large fan of the MiHoYo-verse; but jesus.... do i really dislike plagiarism; and what's worse about it are the lengths they have gone to mask/hide said plagiarism.

The rates were mentioned as an example to show the actual value of the compensation (context).
But anyway, I play both games and each has their positives and negatives. Yes, Genshin has more polish, but ToF has a bigger initial world, better exploration, better travelling, better customization, costumes for every character can be gotten for free, getting stars is way easier and with alternatives to obtain them, also has more gameplay variation (and the vast majority aren't limited by the energy pool), is actually multiplayer, doesn't try to make you feel like you need to play every day of the week to not lose rewards while actually offering you more playtime when you do (more things to do other than dailies and energy stuff), and despite their lower budget they try to care about the details (for example by actually integrating the gameplay in the lore, while GI's 4 character party has never been bothered to be explained).
I like both games, and while Genshin does many things right I'm not going to ignore the fact that sometimes they've been more about money than about passion for their playerbase. I think that it's good that ToF was released and did other things right, as that might help Hoyoverse to wake up and stop sleeping on their pile of gold.
