I'm confused (yeah.. I know the jokes write themselves). It's F2P, no box price, no loot boxes, no microtransactions. How will they get money to pay these Dungeon Masters etc...?

Sub would make it not F2P though... and in today's world an optional sub is considered P2W (which they said they are strictly against).  Unless the optional sub/donations give no benefits?

    Dunno...  strange.

    https://www.warofdragnorox.com/Home/FAQ
"Q. How much will it cost?
War of Dragnorox will be free to download with no up front cost for the game. You will need to sign-up for a monthly $9.99 subscription to play."

    "Q. Why a subscription?
War of a Dragnorox is a competitive game that requires a large number of high quality servers to run at the level of gameplay we expect. We also believe in keeping the purity of our players and their accomplishments limited to in-game achievements. In other words, there is no cash shop and there never will be. No experience bonuses, no cosmetics, nothing, not ever. Everything you earn, must be earned by playing the game. We have absolutely no desire to charge a subscription and we're sorry that we have to do it. However, because we believe in the purity of the MMORPG genre and don't allow cash shops we have large costs associated with our server farms and we have to charge a monthly fee. You are free to cancel your subscription at any point. We also feel like this keeps us accountable as developers to ensuring that your gameplay experience is the best possible one."

So not f2p, but the sub doesnt sound too bad to me. I wonder if the first month is free then $10 a month afterwards to keep playing, the free to dowmload and no upfront costs sounds that way.

It's a sub-based game.  They included that with the original announcement for the game.

Makes sense. I think the article misunderstood the plan: "War of Dragnorox plans to be free to play, with no box cost and is planned to release on Steam"

Cost nothing to sign up so I'm in to see what happens. I am all for a decent sub game.

Me too, but I'm having a hard time getting the math to add up on paying GMs for each sever on only $10 subs.

Thanks for the catch, it was supposed to read "free to download". Sorry about that!

No worries, you've got an active enough community that'll make sure not a single typo falls through the cracks. ;)

Great! Another game that won't come out for another 10 years, or will be canceled in 6-8 years. I don't understand how the dungeon masters can be on at all times, so this seems unrealistic. However, they do seem passionate about the game and that's rare these days. I also think it is a bad idea to not have players be magic users. It would be more interesting if you could choose to be a non-magic user or a magic user and that would make for some great PVP.

Well it hasn't been announced by as a Kickstarter (Yet), so it's already a plus in my books. A wait and see, but with a modicum of excitement for seeing more.

I really struggle to understand how studios come up with such names like War of Dragnorox.

Oh, I know, because the.."short-cut" sounds nice : WoD ........

All the right words for the vision, well except for the pvp part.
Looking forward to see if the result matches (my interpretation of) the talk.

I know the mmo players are starved for new games but this game looks like crap all around. I am not sure why people think that a game that does not do anything new and instead doubles down on outdated mechanics will do well. And don't get me started on how idiotic the DMs in am MMO idea is.

Im not convinced how DMs for quests will work in an mmorpg unless they dont expect to have more than 100 players online on their server Also wod mmo is comming World of darkness? omg omg omg No war of draga something Ah fuck it

It does sound interesting. I personally would like more old school feeling of having to come together and play as a community instead of single person runthough with mmo elements. I will be keeping my eye on this game.

They sound like they are saying the things that will attract players.  Sub-only, old-school, DM heavy, lots of zones and raids, no microtransactions.

Saying is one thing.  Problems that I see:
    • DM compensation on $10/month, as mentioned by others.
    • How are they paying Steam's 30%?
    • Will DMs be players or Triune Studios employees or 'volunteers'?
    • Only 7 classes might be a turnoff to some.
    • PvP-focused will make it less appealing to many.
    • 2023 launch - does that mean release or another Beta?
Exactly how many PvP MMOs have we seen announced and fail to deliver, especially passion projects?  I hope Triune will be an exception, and deliver a polished game on-time and meets their financial goals without severe deviation from their stated aims.
