Over the past week, Phantasy Star Online 2 has banned over 1600 players for toxic behavior. The NGS Live Operations Team has taken a stand against what they deem as "hateful behavior and toxicity" which has concluded in the suspension and punishment of hundreds of accounts.

Is there some players left?
Yes this is a fun game, until after few hours you reach end of content.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

JP is much more populated than Global and always has been.
You're acting like Global has a healthy population when nearly the entire playerbase is in agreement that it does not. Have you ever actually been to the forums or the Discord? Do you pay attention to what people are saying?
You are either extremely ignorant of the situation or you are being intentionally misleading because you don't want to discourage potential players from trying the game, which is it?
Focusing on bad words and pictures, rather than the RMT issues which are ripping the game apart limb by limb (which is what JP is focused on because they aren't staffed with a stable of social justice warriors obsessed with trying to feel and/or appear virtuous to everyone around them rather than doing their jobs) is a serious mistake and the only people who think it is a good plan are those who don't understand the severe detriment that the RMT situation has had and continues to have on PSO2.
You seem very emotionally invested.
It's a video game.
You need to learn to relax, try screaming into a pillow.
The issue right now is that the population is split because NGS and legacy share the population. When you're in the city or ship it's not uncommon for instances to be full. NGS will even out more when they add content, the RMTs have nothing to do with it.

Plus the server instability got a lot better only a couple weeks after NGS launch, even when the servers were full. I may not be hitting queue times anymore, but lets be real, its because they launched NGS with 20 levels worth of content and half the classes.
I still see tons of players logging in but many of them are back on the old PSO2 waiting for NGS to get new content. There really isn't much to do on ngs at the moment.
A lot of players to hang out in the hubs. The symbol chat spam can be cool but it can get offensive real quick. It seems like those kinds of players just wait around for the urgent quests.
I thikn once ngs expands things will get better, right now ngs has less than a quarter of the content of the original. Thats the real problem, they are splitting the community up between two versions and the new version is the loser because they launched it too soon.
I am on the old PSO2 too. Still working on my summoner.

However, lack of content in PSO2 NGS is a common and especially valid complain about it. I played this game, and I honestly loved the mobility and the combat (less the aesthetic). I also liked the idea of the open world even it is under-exploited.
Then I stopped, not because it was bad or because of the competition, but simply because it felt dull with the same content over and over.
IMO, PSO2 NGS needs few more years of content development to reach the level of its ancestor.
