Game is called: Saga of Ryzom (www.Ryzom.com)  and you can creature handle with the next expansion which is free.

didn't tried that one yet, maybe you can post your experience here.

Truly surprised it hasn't been deleted yet.

But, yes, there's been some discussion recently on these forums about it and how it has similarities to pre-CU SWG.  I was planning on trying it soon anyway, but if they're adding Creature Handling-like abilities in the next patch, that might just put a nail in the SWG coffin for many players.

I'm interested in finding out as well. I asked the same thing on the Ryzom page and they said "try it and find out".

Which after dealing with the french customer service types, I didn't care.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled :( - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

I've been testing SoR this week and you really got a shitload of skills to choose from
My focus have been crafting during the trial and you can use a verity of resources that have a lot of different stats. Similar resources give different characteristics depending on what you craft.

I've heard some whining about it's all a mega grind and I believe that can be true. As I tried to do most crafting I still progressed less in that than in combat (getting resources on the trial island)

You get a death penalty so dying is not recommended...

You have 4 basic skill-trees (combat, magic, crafting, harvesting) that branches out in sub-trees. For example combat goes melee, ranged and then melee branches out in 1-hand, 2-hand and close combat (same for ranged but don't remember the names). All in all every tree caps at lvl 100.

EDIT: I just followed one of the links to the skill trees... there are 250 lvl's, lol

To max out all trees I guess you can grind forever, lol

If you take a visit to the official forum you have to pinch your arm to believe how civil and nice the community is, top notch!

I tried out SoR while looking for a new game to play, and I didn't like it. I uninstalled it after a few days. It's got the skills and sandbox feel of SWG, but it's as intuitive (or less) than Anarchy Online. Ouch. The interface isn't that great either.

It's also among the more merciless games out there -- death at level 1 is remarkably easy to come by, and the aftershock (respawning at 10% health with very slow regen) gives a bit of insight as whats to come. To describe it as a "mega grind" is about right.

SoR isn't a horrible game, but it could be a lot better. A couple of usability/playability passes at the game would probably see it gain a few subs.

    9.0/10.0 - A Must Try

I played a trial of this game. Unfortunately this is not pre-cu SWG. This is in reality a level-less game based on skills, although it is common to refer to your skills as e.g. lvl 42 melee, this means nothing about your skills but will help a crafter make you weapons/armor. The community in this game is the BEST I have ever met EVER.

I came close to subscribing to this game, I found a really nice guild in my short time. The reason I did not is because this game is a terrible GRIND. I would have been paying for a chatroom.  I did not really feel that special connection with my avatar.

Honestly though I may return to the game, the boredoom of free-trials can only last so long and this is decidedly the best I have played since pre-cu SWG.

I tried this game a while back after reading posts where people compared certain aspects of it to SWG. Many have mentioned that it has a good crafting system.

I dloaded it for a free trial and the only problem I encountered was with what IIRC a quest. I needed to go visit X and I used my map to get to X but my quest didn't update. I kept running around this area for nothing.

Maybe it was just a glitch. Don't know. But I got frustrated and quit.

Ryzom Ring will not have creature handling. It's not even a true expansion.

I found Anarchy Online intuitive. :P

Being an EVE Online player I'm very welcoming to Risk Vs Rewards.  Anyone remember what it was like to grind Jedi when you would lose exp from all death then additional loss if a BH hand their hands in it?  I miss that intensity and EVE Online is the closest thing which provides it.

200k per death with an additional 210k if a BH performed the death blow not to mention that there used to be a 5 minute resurrection timer to which if the Jedi were resurrected prevented them from losing the initial 200k.
