I dread walking place to place in this game, needs mounts bad.
It's not so bad once you have enough azoth to fast travel. unlock the different towns and fast travel shrines and buy a house.

The cheap house comes with a 4hr cool down to fast travel there but it only costs like 50 azoth to remove the cool down and use it again and just like the inn, you can travel to it from anywhere.

Once you're in a town you can fast travel to any other town or any shrine so the running distance to where you really want to go get shorter.

It's slow going initially but it gets better at ~ level 20+

While I'd also like to see mounts added in a future expansion, but please only horses, no rainbow tigers of doom, actually the travel speed in NW works just like in all other MMORPGs, you get faster once you progress in the game. Azoth becomes very easy to get, I personally never ran out of it. Once you can solo the lower level corruption events (25+), it's even easier, but I didn't need that to almost always be at the Azoth cap once I passed level 15ish.
There is actually Lore scattered around that speaks to why there are no mounts.  They have been banned due to an "incident"...
Unfortunately when has lore ever stood in the way of a good cash shop item? I did hear there are so many "teleports" that mounts are not needed, no idea if that's true. As a mount fan I would hope the mounts come in and the teleporters get binned.
Once you've been to a town you can fast travel there. Each zone also has a few fast travel points you unlock once you find them. It's not a terrible system, but I agree that I'd rather just have mounts.

Azoth is the resource required to fast travel (as well as some other things) and it has a cap that you reach pretty quickly. I'm sure Azoth, and its cap, will play into the cash shop at some point.

Here you go. One of my favorites of their songs and also one of my favorite U2 videos:

Yes, I definitely noticed a lack of direction and some conflicting directions they went with this game. The project started not even as a MMO title AFAIK. It was supposed to be a PvP centric survival game with full loot and PvP on at all times except some safe zones. They made if far less punishing since.

Second the initial designs features tribal factions as NPCs/mobs etc, but after some consultations and outrage (with history of American genocide and all) those factions were replaced with far more generic zombies and similar.

Combat started as a Dark Souls light with stagger being one of the main ways you would get punished for a badly timed attack or getting flanked by multiple enemies. Stagger got removed in Preview...basically making combat less punishing again BUT also less deep.

Then there is the controversy about poor choice of leadership at the studio, with at least some very senior positions taken by execs with no game development experience meddling in development of a MMO...which are notoriously difficult to manage and polish.

So instead of an interesting setting with Native American inspired content, with hopefully some Witcher like inteligent and mature  narrative about nature of humanity, we ended up with far more generic setting and half baked features, because the leadership has very little idea what they wanted to achieve here. Some of the basic features in the game feel like need some serious work and decision making at the DESIGN level.

All of this makes you wonder how much time and existing game assets have been wasted due to lack of direction and focus.

Here is a kicker tho. It is possible I'm MMO starved, but New World thanks to its atmosphere, the crafting loop and fairly unique for a MMo combat kept me playing for hours late into the night. This doesn't happen with me often any more. The game has clearly some potential, but I’m not convinced this is enough to convince Amazon that they should continue spending money on it. We all know what happened to few of their projects.

Imma give them a year or 2 before I touch the game others can guinea pig it, life keeps me pretty occupied to the point no big deal to wait a year or 2 to see if they ever get things straightened out, the no credit for heal thing is utter bull crap might as well make solo builds because late game if they don't fix this then your gonna have a team of pure burst damage and that will be endgame and if they nerf anything to the point even thats not viable well sir you just fucked up your game when you could have fixed that issue at the root at the very bud it sprung from, we can only hope they have the foresight to see this as soon as possible because unless they want to make their game easy they need to make healing worth doing or there will be no unity or any loyalty to play together cuz at that point its a free for all of just burst damage and surviving

Don't need coordination when you just spam your strongest crap you can do and the alternative being your entire team dies period if you don't, but who am I to question anyone maybe others will actually like that type of gameplay

    Just a precision:
Stagger was removed from players, but not from NPC enemies.
