The bottom line is, that 3000 people is pretty okay for a niche MMORPG without an existing IP. It's not blow the doors off Activision's office with a torrent of cash, but it's also not anything that indicates the game is on life support. If you go by the metric people were using from the weeks before beta of it being a ghost town with less than 500 people at peak times, then have 3000 people at launch is pretty incredible.

But what actually matters here...is the money they need to recoup from their investment.  They spent all the backer money long ago (other than small percentages of new purchases over the last few years).  They got more than $30 MILLION in investments.  Those investors want to get paid back WITH a return on their investment.   For that to happen they need a LOT of new players to buy the game.

It's not so much about you or me.  They got all the money they will ever get from me as I have 5 years of VIP pre-paid.  If I play or not is irrelevant.  But they need to fund the continued development of the game and to do that they need at LEAST high 5 figure to low 6 figure NEW players.

They simply cannot survive on 3000 players.  Not even close.   In the last day they added a little over 900 paid accounts (lets call it 1k).  That is about $40,000 in revenue.  Just for perspective vs the $30,000,000 (plus an ROI) they have to get back to the investors plus operating costs for the servers and staff.

Normally, there is a massive spike at launch and then attrition sets in.  Maybe Crowfall will be unique (or at least one of the few) to buck that trend and we will see quick growth.  We will see, and that is what the numbers will tell us.  Those stats are far more important than any individual experience.

I'll be on for 5+ hours today and I am sure I will have some fun.  Got my crafter enough Discs to upgrade to Purple, just need to farm about 5k more gold which is my goal tonight.

Like this, using your numbers to make an argument as to the survivability on 3000 or so players and not the actual number in game by leaving out what you deem inactive  Did the players at the login screen steal  the game?  It's building a false premise and then arguing a point like this.  Let me know who stole access to the game that got to the lobby.

ideally, fun is a huge factor, however a larger factor than simply having fun, is people making it known they are having fun to others to attract them in.

If all you have is a bunch of panic stricken chicken littles crying about how the game is dying.. it becomes all too often a self fulfilling prophecy. Even more so when the panic stricken crying is coming from the same people that claim they are having fun and want the game to succeed. You want to send some serious mixed messages, that is the way to do it.

"OMG this game is Great and its GONNA DIE!"

Like dude.. lay off the meth and redbull, and after that gripping and informative review of this game.. I think I am gonna go play some WOW now.

He did make it known he was having fun.

Its not his fault this game has only 3k people at launch.  If it had 3mil people at launch I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have a problem him posting the numbers.

    Gonna be honest, I would.

Really, I deal with it every half hour or so on my guilds discord, with the bot giving the server numbers. I find is annoying as all hell truth be told.

People talked about how WoW had 10 million subs.. I never once thought "OMFG, 10 Million people play that game.. I have to go there and play or my penis will get smaller"

NGL.. I also would feel really bad for anyone that would actually think like that..

    Nahh, he's just spreading panic.

Crowfall maintains around 3K Active players, now, unless you plan to buy into this flat-game theory that @Slapshot1188 is selling that every single person that has an active account is concurrently logged in 24/7 and that's the entire population of the game, the reality of the games population is more likely around 30 - 50K active accounts.

Which is why Artcraft is keeping things cool, after all, they have the real numbers, and they don't seem the least bit worried about it.

You think a few hundred extra players in worldwide population  makes a difference?  As I said...  Add a zero to the end before you want to start that conversation.  They need NEW players,  whether I login or not matters not at all for them financially.  The most important number is the total account number which is creeping up slowly from new purchases but we are talking a few thousand.   Not nearly enough.

Post a pic of the Dregs world where alot are also playing? I dont really care about concurrent numbers, I've never felt the world was empty of other players unless I'm specifically jumping on servers during their dead times. Plenty of PvP to be found, Faction communication is always going about whats being captured, where to find fighting, and theres constant groups roaming for gold farming, mat harvesting, and of course ambushes.

Dregs opened Friday night, and they had to add an additional server because the 1 EU and 1 NA one got overloaded, so they currently have 3 total, and its some constant fighting and player interaction, so regardless of the grand total population, the game doesnt feel dead while your playing, and thats what really matters.

Yes for surely a bot missing 110 players worldwide in an MMORPGs launch week is exactly like calling a vase an egg.  That’s a really “swell” analogy.

Much better than thinking 4% of 350,000 is 9.

Well his other belief that if the game has 3000 active players, that it ONLY has 3000 players, is equally kinda funny, and incorrect as well.

A 400 player surge is "wild" ? It's certainly better than them losing 400 players but you need to put those numbers in perspective, heck my go-to game released in 2013 and there are currently just over 91k concurrent users online on a Monday morning.

I bought Crowfall but after very briefly trying it I realized that it was not a game for me, no hate towards it.. just not my cup of tea.  For your sake, and everyone else that is enjoying the game I really hope those numbers go up a lot more, and quickly.

I'll buy a game when it looks like it offers me something way better than i already have or way different and good at the same time,i don't  go out buying every advertised pile of junk.

So if your going to tell me you make WISE decisions, you pick good games, you then actually thought this game was going to be AAA over the top better than what you already have...lol.

I think within gaming we simply have a very large pool of really bad consumers that get BAITED and hooked into every advertisement. No wonder marketing firms make so much money,no wonder Bill and cohorts left this site to get into marketing.
Why laugh? because they are doing something you cannot?

Plenty of good games however, gamers like diversity you would know that if you actually gamed. But you don't, so you don't.

Also, in YOUR second paragraph, it's You're* As in You are telling me, not YOUR 2nd paragraph.

There is no "We" you don't game, you just bitch like a lil girl with a tin hat and a skinned knee.

Crowfall is what it is, the Devs said from the beginning they are making the game they want to make and they weren't really concerned with how many people played it. I tried it, I don't like it, to those that do; I hope you get to enjoy it for years to come.

Essentially, you can post all the numbers you want, they are irrelevant.

Folks often conflate "fun" with commercial success.

My all time favorite game was called Fireteam.  It was WAY ahead of it's time.  It launched 20 years ago.  It had revolutionary concepts like shipping with a headset and microphone and having integrated voice chat.   It was one of (if not the first) Esport games.  They had capture the flag, Gunball (football with guns), and other modes.  They had a ranking board, by individual and by company (think guilds).  It was, in my eyes.. AMAZING.

We had a small group of a few hundred that played that game for years, from initial Alpha to beta to launch... to relaunching in the EU.   But other than a few hundred of us diehards  it never caught on and thus it closed in the US about 6 months after launch and then in the EU a few months after relaunching there.  I would be playing that game now, even 20 years later if I could.  It was, in my mind, THAT GOOD.  Sadly, the rest of the population didn't agree or never gave it a chance.

Games are a business and they need to make money.  10,0000,000 WOW players does not make WOW a great game, but it does make it a viable product.

I'm having lots of fun in Crowfall.  It has some significant issues, but overall it's been a fun week.  But looking at a tiny server and saying "I see people when I play" is missing the larger picture.

They need to add a zero to their population numbers.  Otherwise it will not matter that I like the game, or that anyone else see people on their tiny server.

The plane's engines have failed at 30,000 feet.  The pilots are trying to get them restarted.  Will they manage to do that in time?  We will see.

Some of the 30M in investments are specifically for the engine from what I recall.

    From an article:
The Artisan Engine will help developers create large MMO worlds. It will offer tools for RPG staples like characters, inventory, equipment, monsters, AI, harvesting, races, classes, subclasses, powers, banking, secure trading, skills, and leveling. ArtCraft believes that using these tools can save studios time (two to three years) and millions of dollars ($10 million) when creating their own MMOs.

Also, they created a spinoff company called Artcraft Technologies to handle all that stuff as opposed to Artcraft Entertainment that runs the game. Not sure how much the can move things from one pocket to the other but maybe if we have someone that is one of the Investors (they have a number of players that are also certified investors in the company) they can expand on it a bit.

I am a backer and I have to say how disappointed I am with the game.

    It is really crap.

The weird unresponsive combat and PVP, the Zerging, the crafting system with it's massive time sink system, the game's technical performance, the garbage PVE, the "tutorial", and again the ganky action combat system, the player "housing" which is just a random floating island in space... all of it is really terrible.

I will give them marks for having a pretty smooth launch though. The class system is okish as well and has some interesting ideas.

    I give it a 2/10

That's not really how business's work. Crowfall the game, does not really showcase anything about the engine that developers are interested in. There are a lot of tools, and the entire API part of the engine that makes development easier. Those tools are not observable in the game. The marketing team for the engine will have much easier to put together, and more descriptive, use cases to help sell the engine.

The reality is, if Crowfall is in the red, and predicted to stay in the red for the forseable future, it will likely be shut down. Just like no matter how much I enjoy having internet in my home, if I can't pay the bill, it will be turned off. Of course no one really knows if Crowfall is in the red except for Artcraft and its investors, but we can make an educated guess, which is what some of us in this thread have done.

and unfortunately  in 8 days those numbers will drop by 25-35%

Crowfall has some redeeming qualities and i hope it can pull itself up ..

But they have really put themselves in a tough spot ...

      Time will tell

I'm a good example of someone that has the game and intends to play it but has not logged in yet. I'd rather just wait for things to clear up and get worked out over the first few days/week.

I get that there are people that will not like this game for various reasons. What I don't get is why they choose to waste their time complaining, then arguing back and forth about a game they don't like and have no intention of ever playing.
Do me a favor and come back after you actually play the released game for a week and let me know if you will be sticking around.  You could be an actual test case.

BTW what things are you waiting to have cleared up?  Since the first day there have been zero server issues.  No queues to enter the game.  Everything seems to be working, just waiting on folks like you to come and help grow the playerbase.

I was able to log in for an hour today for the first time and felt compelled to reply to you as soon as possible given the amount of effort you've put into trashing a game you seem to dislike and have no intentions of playing. I may be wrong, of course, as I didn't read all 200 posts after your request that I return after playing.

There were a few changes from the last time I played that were nice, mostly small quests that filled the gap of some of the other quests.

I think one of the things people did not like, characters felt superimposed, comes from the fact that there are no footprints/foot dust when you ran. It may seem silly, but it's something we've come accustomed to seeing and felt odd to not see here.

I did not feel disconnected with combat, nor have I ever during my time playing beta.

While it may seem to offer a lot of class variations, I don't know how different they will be at the end other than minor playstyle differences. I do think healing is a bit underwhelming early on. I can only hope it improves later on as levels progress.

I think the PvE in the game is there for no other reason than to teach a perso to play the game. I can't find another reason for it. Unless they plan to greatly expand the PvE portion of the game, I think they should either speed it up or allow a player to negate it all together if they have a character that is already past a certain level.

I don't like the semi-perpetual aspect of it and think they need to greatly expand the private world part to give a greater sense of a permanent, living world.

I feel like this game will be a MMO-esque version of Overwatch by the time all is said and done, which is fine. I liked Overwatch for what it was.

Currently 101 members of my guild are on.

And.. I was kinda right, you are part of your Guild leaders faction in Crowfall, which you cannot change.
