If you are putting in the Reuters article, please add this link and refer to Smedley's statement:

    http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=442698&query.id=0#M442698

"I would like to specifcally address a few consistent things people have been emailing me - No, we aren't making these changes in order to bring SWG to consoles. This is simply untrue. Noone is working on an Xbox 360 or PS3 version of SWG (Or PS2, Xbox or PSP), nor is one on the drawing board. Would that be cool someday? Sure... but it's not on our radar at all."

God this has made me so damn angry all over again. "we needed to give people more of an option to be part of what they have seen in the movies, rather than something they've created themselves." Did I take some crazy pills this morning, or am I actually reading the words of someone who's a game director for an mmo? Has Nancy ever played an mmo? Sweet jesus mother of god all mighty, do they promote people at lucas arts by pulling there name out of a hat? If so, then Nancy must have been the front desk secretary before she became a game director. Honestly, I had a novice shipwright, a master bounty hunter,  a master ranger, and almost finished my main, a teras kasi artist that was on his forth tier before mastering the profession. I quit starwars galaxies right before the starter pack came out, because something in me, call it a hunch said that the game was about to finally take a dive. But good lord, I had almost forgot why I stopped playing that game until I started running through these articles again. R.I.P Sulla, Lepharia, Stien, and Liela.

I just got 2 screenshots of SOE forum post:

something nice to think about, posted by a angry customer of star wars galaxies:

    part1: http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=412803

    part2: http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=412805

it's a nice post which stuck with me.

I know exaclty what the poster of this message means, and it really seems like SOE got 1 developer left who does the whole work for star wars galaxies and in the other hand Blizzards World of Warcraft got a army of coders who work on new addons, expansions, features and so so on.

6 million WoW players simply can't be wrong and if you never played world of warcraft before, it's time to give it now a try, since they released tons of new stuff for it.

(btw: the post above got deleted directly a few seconds after she posted it on the boards. (no "moved", "trolling" or something else, straight deleted without a trace")

This is how it went for me.

People started posting about the Starter Kit showing up on all the online stores, and wanted to know what it was about.  That was in early October.

Mid-October, SOE sent out that infamous publish that drastically lowered xp, including instituting the group xp penalty without posting it in the publish notes.  I had noticed that the flyover text kept telling you that you were receiving 5000+ xp, but if you looked at your actual character sheet and subtracted, you were getting closer to 700.

SOE claimed that the xp change was in error, and that the flyover text was what the "group" was receiving.  However, that flyover text was incorrect even when soloing.  I thought then that they had tried to pull a fast one on their consumers.  Probably figured we would be too dumb to notice.  About 5 days later, even though they put the xp back in, I decided I needed to take a break from a company that I felt I couldn't trust.

I'm glad that I got out before the NGE announcement!

If my account still worked to post on SOE forums I would link this thread. Im sure many many more would love to read the history of SWG.

"SWG was a world, now it's just a game" -adamrk-

"When the game was good, you didn't have to ask where the population was, because it was everywhere. When the game was good you didn't have to ask which server had population, because they all did. When the game was good you didn't have to beg friends to give it a try, because they were already playing. " - Salty Pete

it would propably result in a ban of your account, so I don't advice anyone to post this link on the SOE boards.

I have seen it there a few times though, but it got locked or deleted after a short period of time.

they took the "trolling/ none game play discussion reason" to remove the link :)

Wow, I've spent the past, I don't know how long it's been reading through every single one of the links in the OP's post.

I miss what once was. It seems that no matter what beta's I sign up for, or what games I pay to play, I cannot, and probably won't (anytime soon) find a game that can compare to the original SWG.

you know, the most dissapointing thing about about the NGE and combat upgrade is the fact that we have no cohesion in the star wars galaxies community.

when everyone with one voice would say "no we don't accept this" and cancelled their subscriptions, then we would not have the current situation in star wars galaxies.

most of us simply can't switch into something that has less complexicity, less beauty and no speciality like it used to have.

those who support SOE with the NGE simply turn their back on everything that made this game worth playing.

Ya know, I never thought of it was a desperate attempt to catch up with WoW's numbers, but if that was the case, they should have done a little more research.

WoW didn't acheive its numbers because of gameplay simplicity.  It acheived them because blizzard has years and years of trust built up with its customers.  There were three warcraft strategy games before the mmo, all of which were HUGE hits in their respective times.  The blizzard online strategy servers (aka battlenet) even today have about 300,000 people on them at any given time, and at the top of the bettlenet server, they advertise WoW.

If SOE and/or LA (whoever called the shots) would have done their homework. they would have realized this, and instead of conforming, they would have improved the pre-nge system.  Our only hope now is that as these published start to pour out, the game will start to revisit a semblage of the once great game.

Lesson Learned:  Conformity without doing your homework, SOE, is dumb.

    thats the point.

soe burned too many bridges for veterans to come back and now they try to make star wars galaxies attractive for new players.

they will hold on to their current publish plan and at the end of 2006 they will realise that their numbers are much much worser in comparision with the end of 2005 / 2004 and that it was the biggest mistake to push the NGE live.

and at the latest then they will realise how much loss they made and how much more money they would have gotten, when they never did the combat upgrade and the NGE.
