Should be roasting a game that deserves it. Camelot Unchained and chronicles of elyria over here developing other games or declaring bankruptcy. Maybe Crowfall, Ashes of creation, or pantheon....games that are taking forever and have less to show for gameplay than starcitizen. The reason the industry doesn't go after these games is because they are not a threat like SC.

People do roast all those games.  It stands to reason that the game that has accumulated more crowdfunding than all the others combined would be roasted the most.

This is fake news. Devs responded to this already and said that's not what happened. Once again "anonymous sources" are here to make things up for click bait. Shame

Posts like this are hilarious. Just shows you have never played the game. Almost every ship is purchasable in game. The game literally chucks money at you to buy ships. Yes there will be a wipe but there has not been one for months and months, some people have had their ships nearly a year(from in game purchase) much longer than games like Escape from Tarkov.

People really do not understand the scope of this game and the bugs that come with games with similar open world, vehicles, and large player counts. There has been a massive amount of progression. Maybe not near where they should be and they have made mistakes but you can't be mad at the people who forgive them and continue to support them especially when the game is getting drastically better with each recent update.

Actually he does, but some lack the capacity to understand this.

    Kool-Aid is usually involved.

Ya more people just spreading misinformation. This is exactly the problem. There are some real problems with star citizen but those are hardly talked about because the people that are envious of SC success have never played the game or tried it like 6 years ago. You are out of the loop, you don't have the experience to back up your claims.

You are not 'in the game'.  You are in the continual Alpha of a game.  The function of the economy is meaningless at this point.

Although I am on record as feeling that if you support the development with huge amounts of money, you should get an advantage.

To enjoy until the neo-goons come to take it from you.

Ah. Another "article". Lots of hearsay and misrepresentation, and calling Kotaku's article extensive is ludicrous.

SC has it's problems, but then again so does mainstream gaming media it seems.

People had jobs they were hired to do and chose to do them through the terrible weather so that they could make money to be able to afford to live? My god, how awful that it was likely that the people who had power continued to work while others who did not have power likely did not have the ability to work still got paid.

Why couldn't they be given the great freedom of being without pay or work like millions of others in the US so that they might be "safe" from the universes wrath. It isn't as if they had a choice and chose to continue to work in whatever capacity they could.

Kotaku is like one of those old forgotten rappers who has to put out hit tracks to get noticed so they can make a little money and get some attention. "Anon Sources Said." LoL, you guys are starting to become the CNN/CNBC/NBC and the rest of those dying lying news sources.

I felt pretty much the same as I was reading this article. The Coron's have laid a beating on me work wise and $ to support my family, as it has to tons of Americans. I wish I had the option to make up work missed to make up pay! One other crazy idea and this worked for me in real life. At one cabinet shop I where I worked for couple yrs, it was a sweat shop that over worked and under payed! Mind you I was young green as poop and afraid to leave. But I HATED IT CHECKED the "field" and BAM. A new job 30% raise. Or the craziest part, ready? I don't know work because that is what you get paid for! My farther always said THE REASON YOU GET PAID IS BECAUSE IT IS WORK OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE A HOBBY!!

As far as the actual game goes, yes it now finally has a great deal of content yet unfinished! Please for all that is holy in the world of gaming LISTEN to the players! STOP MAKING THE 2,583,719 freakin spaceship and work the content in the game it self.

SC releases a huge amount of fan material and positive PR, but whenever they encounter an issue like with the supposed SQ 42 beta launch they just enact a communication blackout on the issue and later pretend it never happened.

Media is trying to make scandal articles when they can. But it's much better than the alternative of just getting positive info and PR while all issues are quietly buried.

It is okay to like Star Citizen and to cheer for its success.
Here is the problem people have - it seems like one of the following is true:

    1: Game is pay-to-win.
2: You can spend thousands on a ship and have no real advantages.

I don't know how you avoid really angry people when this thing releases.

It seems that an early backer is expecting something for his money and he's going to be pretty upset (I'd guess) if his $1,500 Ultimate Panther of Death is easily bested by a easily acquired noob boat.

Conversely, if I join a game and get whacked by the Barge of Death that I literally had no chance to beat - a Barge of Death I cannot earn in game or ever hope to afford then I'll write off the game as a rich boy's playground and go elsewhere.

So are early backers getting ripped off or is the game pay-to-win?

I think its more of a classic case where people hear what the developers are saying and don't trust it. The customer thinks they are reading between the lines. They literally tell you to just buy the base game and only to buy packs if you want to support the game. They just make buying packs appealing. Most people are going to be very disappointed when they learn that some of the smallest early game ships are the absolute best for dogfighting and pvp.

Spending a ton on star citizen does not mean you will crush everyone. It just leads to more diverse gameplay. You can earn the best ship in the game with a few hours of playing or a few events(which could be 1 hour or less).

I realize I have spent much more than I needed to and I will probably sell a couple ships because they are so heinously overpriced. Especially for how easy it is to earn ships in game.

I had to swallow my pride and accept that there is a reason this game has 350 million funded and growing. That money didn't just appear from thin air. This game has continuous support, which a lot of games can't say they have.

Whether I like or dislike this game is irrelevant, but I have to give it to that team for what they've accomplished. Marginal Progression.

Wargfoot, your analogy is comparing apples to oranges.  If the company that made the golf club goes titsup  you still have the golf club. If SC goes titsup, your ship is basicaly gone.
  • ArglebargleArglebargle Member EpicPosts: 3,492
They need to work hard to adhere to their timetables. I mean the SQ 42 beta is according to their latest revised due date coming as soon as in Q3 2020.
Yeah, the single player game based on a noted single player engine, that they haven't been able to get out in 9 years+.  This despire various claims of it being 'fully fleshed out', or 'nearly done'; claims that don't hold water.

Of course, if SQ42 came out and it wasn't top class whizbang, it might interfere with their marketing.  They'd also have to support it, with like developers and stuff.  Game-fantasy sells great, so don't disturb the Golden Goosies.....

Pretty simple. If you are buying these ship packs you are getting fleeced.
