Maybe a good thing; nothing wrong with a good old single-player game.

    Excellent news.

As much as i wanted to play the multiplayer in DA Inquisition, none of my friends bought the game so I just played the single player game and that was more than enough.

Not every game has to be multiplayer. Glad they finely figured that out. Would rather have some great single player RPG's from devs that know how to make single player RPG's then have some half done multiplayer game where nothing is great.

Perfect , now if we can get them to remove 50% of the cut scenes they may end up with a game and not an interactive movie

Perhaps EA finally got it and let bioWare do what they are the best at. Never bothered with MP so it's great news. More work into the actual game.

Definitely not. I don't see why discrete products would be a bad thing. Things that try to be end all be all to everyone often just faceplant.

I love mostly singleplayer games or games with robust singleplayer. Hence, this is a good news.

The multiplayer aspect of Bioware games has always been pretty minimal with a tacked-on afterthought feeling to them so this is no loss at all.

But this is also a significant move in that EA, one of the leading proponents of the "all games must be GAAS" movement is backing the fuck off and not imposing it on all the single player franchises where it doesn't belong.

My main fear with DA4 was that they would try to turn it into yet another GAAS player milking machine. So for me this is the best of news.

How about let Bioware do what Bioware used to do well? I think they've been on the decline for quite some time.

I guess I'm one of the oddballs. DA and its theme and story and setting just seems like one of the best places to run randomized/linear dungeons with the MP. Ehh! Lol.

I mean is it not like the perfect setup of gathering around a campfire with old school D&D type thoughts/system (get the bard, get the potion dude, get the hairy chest with an axe, etc etc), like a lobby, and then go run dungeons?

I swear every year my thoughts, wants, desires continues to go a full 180 from whatever is currently going on in gaming trends lmao. :dizzy:

AFAIC EArts can go take a flying leap, their overlord tactics push devs to pump out games that are always flawed. The EA MMO failed because EA has a bad reputation for bungling MMORPG games due to shit leadership.

leadership matters, the decline shows it.

There was multiplayer? Oh yeaaah, now I remember. Tried it once and that was it.

Good move; focus on the single player and grand storyline, that's the kind of game I'm waiting for

I don’t feel thankful. As a GAAS it was guaranteed to be a soulless cash grab. Now it’s just less of a cash grab. Doesn’t mean it’s going to be a well written and fun game. With bio I’d actually be really surprised if it was. They have been dropping nothing but turds for a long long time. They’ve stayed in business through the good will of gamers who pine for and are nostalgic for the excellent games they made 10-15 years ago. Or whenever those 4-5 good games came out. Whatever. It’s been a long time.

Great news, I do wonder about "Biowares" long term future though as GAAS is the future as far as EA is concerned, we can predict one thing if these games do not do really well that may be the end of Bioware. EA seems to be looking for reasons to shelf single player, they made Bioware make a GAAS (ish) looter shooter to push back the making of single player. I think every iteration of these solo RPG's is now their last hurrah unless they do fabulously so fingers crossed.

I'm really interested in playing with and alongside my friends. It's sad that the only two choices on the table are either single player or wallet milking shallow GaaS multiplayer. I feel like there are multiplayer options in between those extremes that aren't even being considered by studios like Bioware. Square Enix, etc.

I have this feeling they didn't scale this feature back because they're returning to their roots. Does anyone that directly worked on DA 1 even still work at Bioware? I have a feeling this move came because they failed at Anthem and realized they couldn't pull of anything more interesting with DA4.
They have never done any multiplayer well. ME3 and DAI both had it and it was really lame on both. They did do a good job with Neverwinter Nights but that was a different type of game suitable for multiplayer because it was a good facsimile of D&D on a computer.

With ME3 they even tried to force it on you because it affected the global readiness status in the single player campaign.

They finally relented after much complaining and made it not mandatory. Multiplayer in that game was just quicky instanced missions that were over in the blink of an eye and they of course had a cash shop attached to it that let you advance your multiplayer character faster.

I don't have anything against playing with others - I do it a lot in true multiplayer games like MMOs. But those typically have fully fleshed out and interesting multiplayer because it's in the nature of that type of game. An MMO without it would be just as weird to me as a single player game with it.

The ME and DA franchise both are heavily story driven games with you as the protagonist. The kind of thing that is done lamely in multiplayer games like MMOs but is very suited to single player games. The last thing I want in a story-driven single player game is someone else in my game telling me to hurry up and cancel out of the cut scenes... like in SWTOR missions,

There's plenty of room in the gaming world for both, multiplayer and single player games and I don't need all games to have multiplayer options. Playing alone is also fun.

The better option would be to include the multiplayer game modes... BUT WITHOUT $%#5$%^ LOOT BOXES

ME3 and DA:I multiplayer were quite fun, but ruined by microtransactions.

While I agree with you, I'm not sure Bioware is capable of doing what they used to do at the same level as the ME trilogy or the fist couple DA games. I'm talking about story and characters. IMO it's been a very long time since they have and most of that old guard has left. Have to wait and see I guess.

Unfortunately the old bioware (aka the creators of the dragon age franchise) are long gone and moved on. The current bioware team that inherited their legacy have yet shown that they can follow in their footsteps. They kind of suck in a big way which is sad.

The passion for a true dragon age experience isn't there....

This is why I am happy that a company like Larian exists. Single player is okay, but I prefer playing through RPG campaigns with friends vs. alone.

After Andromeda and Anthem this is Bioware's last shot to impress me. Lets see if they have any talent left.
