Guys, calm down, calm down. Q3 2020 is here. SQ42 Beta is any day now. No need to bicker any longer.

    /Cheers,
    Lahnmir
Tell you what, if SQ42 beta releases in Q3 I'll pledge whatever amount gives me access to it.

Got a new gaming laptop on order, will be a good test to put it through its paces.
No public beta was ever planned. Dunno why such nonsense keeps coming up lol
Well, a lot of games these days do sell access to the beta, considering this studio's record is it surprising I would assume they were doing similarly?

So I have to ask though, exactly what does it mean in "starspeak" for SQ42 to go "beta?"

As opposed to whatever state it's currently in?

Single-player games usually don't have public open betas. At best you could get a demo version of a small area like in the old days.

Entering Beta stage would mean that a game is feature complete and is now in the bug hunting/polishing phase/testing phase. This is usually done by QA dev's along with focus groups of random players with different levels of gaming experience.

Why should I go to your dumb link when I can log in and play in Star Marine module? Squadron 42 is actively being developed. Stick to moon landing conspiracy's lol

Exactly. If established studios with decades of experience billions in funding and thousands of devs can take 8+ years to release their games so can a indie studio created through crowdfunding.

Star Citizen has a playable version since 2013 that has been updated constantly so the narrative that they have nothing to show for is simply idiotic specially since it's already the best game of it's genre for a lot of players despite still being in alpha.
You are comparing companies that have good management to one that has NONE. That is the point. Those companies were not that big and they still pushed out games. CIG is just waving a carrot in from of people's faces without any stick to whack CIG with when they still don't deliver. That is what is needed, yet it will never happen and this game will end up being the next Duke Nukem Forever.

Without all the curlicues and obfuscation, someone else's bad management excuses CIG's bad management.
Why does it have to be bad management? Some books take longer than others, some movies take longer than others, some games take longer than others, some paintings take longer than others, some music albums take longer than others. Why is it so hard to understand that making crowdfunded games of this ambition, scale and complexity will always involve a lot of trial and error and therefore will take longer.

Because bad management is exactly what it is. Promising the moon, then showing less things and pushing the rest off while selling more nonsense to backers. It is a bait and switch scheme. We won't do this, but we will sell you this ship......

Because the so called module (which isnt a module at all BTW) was SUPPOSED to be a STAND ALONE campaign. But that is conveniently forgotten by most people especially the white knights.

That link also has a 10 for 10 or whatever theyre called. It was dated in June of 2015. In it ROberts claimed they had just spent 10 days on mo capping with 'cutting edge' technology. LMAO how do you think THAT had fared? I am sure the claim will be it has all been redone with the newest and best tech I a sure. But regardless it was FIVE years ago, and more than a year (almost 2) past the ORIGINAL supposed release date. In it he also claimed that a beta phase (for people who paid a certain amount) was right around the corner.

So 5 years later no closer than what they claimed they had then. Lets also not forget his brother claiming (not too long after this Roberts chairmen announcement) that he had PLAYED the WHOLE campaign. Everyone knows that was bullshit, yt here we are with people trying to rewrite all that history.

ALso as far as SQ 42 what is the release date for it again? Wasnt it Q3 of 2020? I dont think they even have one now because you know....developing is hard. Yet this was ALL done  years ago right? Accroding to THEIR words. Not the words of 'haters' or conspiracy theorist. THEIR words on THEIR OFFICIAL website.

While its always convenient for the scope and the 'fans voted for it' excuses as to hy the super big colossal universe they promised is taking so long. There is absolutely NO excuse they can invent as to why they outright cancelled their Star Marine dream and have taken nearly a decade to do the first part of a stand alone solo game. One they claimed to have finished 5 years ago.

It is also the part that got themthat 42 or whatever amount 'loan' or whatever they called that from those billionaires that needed a tax write off. THAT was a year and a half ago now as well.

LIke Isaid when THAT happened it all comes down tot how big a failure SQ 42 is. You can keep moving the goal posts all you want on some things but at that time it was made pretty clear from everyone that SQ 42 was the soe focus (that somehow has changed the closer they get to the alleged releaseand them seeing they cant even finish that properly) so here we are.

Nothing really changing except the amount of money  they keep fleecing from fools. Because as most have already said that is really the only thing most people care about these days. Because at this point is very clear no actaul finished product be it a stand alone game or a persistent universe is going to ever be released.

Good points, I play mostly online games, buying single player titles usually 2 or 3 years post release, often after a GOTY version is available.

So I'll amend my original offer, if SQ42 goes beta in Q3 I'll toss in for the minimal package to get me access to the online version of the game to give it a go.

what never happened? That people forgot about it or it wasnt supposed to be a stand alone portion of the overall 'game'?

It was 100% sold as a SEPARATE entity. I know people want to erase that but thats why I posted the link to tentonhammer article.

Wrong lol. I dunno where you get these crazy ideas but Star Marine was never sold as a stand alone game or campaign. It's ALWAYS been a module to test FPS mechanics just like the Arena Commander was used to test ship flight/dogfighting mechanics and the Social Module/Area18 and for players to get together and socialize while they worked on the Persistent Universe. With the online sandbox server online and having all those mechanics (flying/fps/social) those modules lost relevancy but are still very much used by new players and old. From getting a safe space to get used to keybinds or testing new setups to organized dogfights/fps wars between guilds/orgs.

It does not get any more true by constantly repeating wrong information.

But hey, the moon landing too never happened in your opinion. Go tell that to Buzz Aldrin. He has a spectacular way to answer such accusations ;-), especially if one harasses his wife in the process.

    https://www.tentonhammer.com/columns/what-happened-to-star-marine

There is the link to a follow up article about Star Marine. It says point blank Star MArine was a SEPARATE "module' as in something completely on its own and playable on its own. As per what Roberts said about it years before.

I know you all think everything about the opriginal idea of what SM was SUPPOSED to be and what it morphed into have been scrubbed and become one and the same that article is held for posterity.

I know alot of people are trying to rewrite ACTUAL history and make it like it didt happen so trying to rewrite SC history might pale in comparison but its all there for people ot read. Also wouldnt be too difficult to see other outlets and what they said about SM all the way back as far as 2012 and 2013. even though a lot of the 'official' stuff has been edited or scrubbed, these article cite things (taht are now dead links) that were at one time OFFICIAL.

But keeptrying to convince yourselves that this thing hasnt been scaled down and stripped of at least a third of what it was originality sold as, and even all the add on and feature creepthat is constantly used as the excuse to why its taking so long will never ever see reality.
