80s cartoons with fantasy "RPG-like" elements - name them

jpnolejpnole Member UncommonPosts: 1,698
I've been introducing some old 80s cartoons to my young children and I couldn't help but notice all the fantasy elements that we have seen in RPGs over the years. Of course I never noticed it during my childhood as my first RPG experience wasn't until the late 80s ('87+) on a commodore with rudimentary graphics. Among the first several I showed my kids were the Smurfs and He Man. In the Smurfs there are always fantasy monsters and mythical creatures, magic spells, the occasional castle, etc. He Man is loaded with fantasy. What other cartoons from the 80s had heavy fantasy influences?

Record of the Lodoss Wars. That was late 80s. They also made a really bad animated series in the late 90s.

One of my favourites was Dungeons & Dragons

I forgot to mention. The 1998 series of Record of the Lodoss Wars, while a bad series had one of the best opening sequences of any anime. I think they spent all their money on it.

The first Record of Lodoss Wars (1990-91) series was not great either.  But it was cool to see an anime version of a D&D-style story.
