They'll keep taking money, but it will never be released as a finished product.

The correct sentence is :"collapse 90 days top for sure"... delivered by naysayers back in 2015 :)

Ten thousands more nw backers at each patch and several free weeks per year to test/play game progress.
500 devs working hard, a Beta (SQ42) planned this year... worst scam ever.

They said BETA last year, now this year. if it gets to the end and still no beta, it really does mean it is a one way money making machine.

You can play the Alpha for free during "Free Fly Events" and judge for yourself.

Plenty of breathtaking fan made videos and screenshots to be found here in the "Star Citizen" subforum of this website.

    Its ready when its ready.

We backers support this crowdfunding project, despite all the naysayer propaganda. Current number of "Star Citizens": 2.542.371  (with a big part of that being paying crowfunding backers).

And while playing the Star Citizen Alpha i personally .......

I can't wait to play the closed beta in 2029.....or am I being too generous?

They're not making a game or a universe for that matter. They're making a dream. A nice one, although still a dream. I've made peace with that. Perhaps in 20 years we'll have something playable beyond a few hours worth of content. In 30, maybe we'll have that "Second life" sci-fi game we all hoped for back when it was first announced. But until there, they are literally attempting to make everyone's sci-fi space game dream.

At least, that's what's being marketed to us. For all we know they are intentionally delaying the game just so they can rake in more money. I'd rather believe that's not true since their actions so far say otherwise.

If they ever stopped receiving money they'll probably sell all rights, and code, of the game to some publisher and let them finish it and monetize a smaller version of it, and then expand on that somehow. Maybe.

    TLDR: There's always hope.

I've reached a point with this game where it's launch or I don't want to hear about it....I get tired of hearing how they made XXX gazillion dollars off of the backers and how they have over 500 people working on the game......At this point it's time to put up or shut up.

Thanks for the reminder that in the meantime the initial scope of a simple refresh of a solo game (Wing Commander) became a two triple-A production (Solo+ MMO), supported more by backers (early and New) every single year.
Why? because backers do vote for breathtaking contents, features no others publishers will ever care to deliver and not for a date decided arbitrary by some finance middlemen.

For this reason we have mining gameplay which is superior to others game, Microtech a full size planet with dynamic weather, a city-planet size and pipelines to create multiplayer ships + fps.

By the way 2015 was the year some internet "expert" provided the world with their 90 days top prophecy :)
The single thing they are able to provide and it is even wrong.

LOL... no game will be equivalent so you are explaining that because nobody forced you to read weekly articles, you won't play a game? There is only one meaning: you was not interested from start. I can guaranteee than most of the hardest naysayer will join :)

I suggest you another tactic. Don't read artcile and when SQ42 will be release, check review and educated opinion if you genuily want to play it.

When those two guys started working on SC, beards were not in fashion, they will have ponytails by the time it launches.

But it will launch, it is not a scam, though they will need an award for procrastination when it does mind you. :)

I wouldn't call it a scam, just mismanaged with no direction or business leadership. It's just a bunch of dudes sitting around going "wouldn't it be cool if...?" and not setting realistic design goals.

... Sure and they released by mistake 3.8.2 a couple week ago, 3.9 end of the month followed by quarterly patch and a beta by end of this year.
Also 1.2 million individual backers don't enjoy current Alpha with a planet with dynamic weather or a city-planet size. Zero thoughts, zero goals...

Naysayers had no trouble to throw scam or ponzi despite no sense. But it start to be embarrasing to use so let's use paraphrase which have as equal sense than scam... nobody will notice it :)

They're only 6 years behind schedule. I guess I was wrong and this is a well managed company with realistic design goals and resource management. They're definitely going to stick to the new timeline, and nothing will be pushed back.

It is breathtaking how people repeat a mantra of "expected delivery Nov 2014" from the Kickstarter page  which was already obsolete before the end of the Kickstarter in Nov 2012.

As if the naysayers ignore everything since day 2 of the Kickstarter in 2012.

Well, many people get scammed - Maidoff anyone? (also people know not to get scammed but people are optimists and that is why they back this). This is a basic ponzi scheme, with no vision or way to end it. That is an issue - people like this need money people to hold their feet to the fire. Crowdfunders will not do that as they really can't. It is just money thrown down the rathole.

    >>>> This is a basic ponzi scheme, with no vision or way to end it >>>

The next person that cannot differentiate between a Crowdfunding campaign and a Ponzi scheme.

And obviously minimal information about the progress of the project. To claim there is no vision just shows a lamentable lack of knowledge about the project.

I can tell, I just don't see the difference really. I mean a regular capital investor gets pay back with interest, shares, etc. What are crowdfunders getting? A ship? Big deal.

That is what crowdfunders do not see.

  • ErillionErillion Member EpicPosts: 10,305

    Incorrect.

They just accept the rules of a crowdfunding project. And support it.

    Which you obviously cannot.

I have only a modest interest in playing this game, but I hope it releases and is a huge success. Because if it doesn't, I am going to get carpal tunnel typing "I told you so."

Of course, it will look like a DDOS attack from all the other forum members also typing "I told you so."

I can only say from my personal point of view ... i already got my moneys' worth in in-game enjoyment. Even now in the Alpha.

Everything in the future is bonus. Things like ... the full multiplayer game,  the full solo game "Squadron 42", the mission discs ....
