In days of old

when nerds were bold

And women knew their place

Venturing hands un-held

where evil dwelled

We were a mighty race

Death was feared

In those days revered

And lurked so close at hand

Often met

with great regret

When courage took a stand

Armored in battered bits

We took our hits

And never gave an inch

Facing sword or spell

until we fell

we wouldn't even flinch

Uphill both ways

It was those days

When nerds were brave and true

The odds were long

When things went wrong

But our glory only grew

With weapons crude

And nearly nude

We faced such awful foes

How we survived

and even thrived

No one really knows

Young folks now

wouldn't know how

To face the beast we'd slay

They'd piss and run

And say they're done

and didn't want to anyway

A sausage fest

I must confess

It lacked in feminine grace

Most nerds were guys

(some in disguise)

and women knew their place

Your re-write is fine except I don't like the line "indifferent anyway".  Doesn't quite seem to fit to me.  I suppose I should clarify about "women knew their place".  It's all just in fun and I just meant that not many women were playing these nerd games back then.  I was using a saying which has a unpleasant history attached to it but making light of it.  Or at least that was my intention.

I don't remember misogyny being apart of MMORPG's. That is the part I am referring to.
I had some amazing times playing MUD's, and Ultima, then Everquest back in the day, but the random remarks about women knowing their place, and that there is a problem with young people
that bothers me, as it has nothing to do with current day MMORPG's.
    You bother me.

Is "hung up" another term for LMFAO at the middle school nerd stereotype? All that's missing is this sign:

Personally I was a closet nerd but mostly a jock in school. I ALWAYS wanted the girls around so I could use my clever lines like "Howya doooing."

The 90s and 2ks were the era of "there are no women on the internet." You were your avatar and the content you provided, sex didn't matter because nobody could see you (and until mid 2ks when voice became common, couldn't hear you) and had no interest in your real world persona. The correct response to someone insisting they were a "hot grill IRL" was "TITS OR GTFO!"

Now incels throw money at every average looking E-girl on Twitch in the hopes of having her say their name. Men have become sad wretched things.

er, not sure about the women knew their place lines (as I don't know how you meant it) and I hope you don't mind but I did some editing ...

    In days of old
    when nerds were bold
    And women knew their place
    Our hands unheld
    where evil dwelled
    We were a mighty race

    Death was feared
    In days revered
And lurked so close at hand
    But often met
    with great regret
    When courage took a stand

In Armored bits (could also be "In Battered bits")
    We took our hits
    And never gave an inch
    'gainst sword or spell
    until we fell
    we wouldn't even flinch

    Uphill both ways
    It was those days
When nerds were brave and true
    The odds were long
    When things went wrong
    Yet glory only grew

    With weapons crude
    And nearly nude
    We faced such awful foes
    How we survived
    and even thrived
    No gamer really knows

    Young folks now
    Would not know how
To face the beasts we'd slay
    They'd piss and run
    And say they're done
    Indifferent anyway

    A sausage fest
    I must confess
    It lacked in feminine grace
    Most nerds were guys
    (some in disguise)
    and women knew their place

    But fun so thanks.
My girlfriend suddenly didn't care about the modem using the phone line . . her place, apparently, was in the UO beta with me.  I was super happy about her new found addiction. . except for sharing the time. :)
Maybe "And women took their place."  B)
If the Witcher, Marvel et al need a new PC checker, here is your man. ;)

    Yep.

Internet Rule 30 and "Go make me a sammich" was in full effect back then.

*note: I have memes related to this discussion that I really want to post. But, I know someone is just itching for an excuse to e-punish me. Sad because they are funny, if you have a pulse.
