Few things I noticed

    1. The intended upgrade removers are salvage kits that you buy from a merchant. The salvage kit type determines the chance on removing an upgrade. This used to be the only way to obtain upgrades from loot.

    But I agree with the upgrade extractors from store. These are the only ones that give a guarantee that you can safely remove upgrades and keep the gear. Imo these kind of destroy an aspect of crafting.

    2. You get charges to change wardrobe looks automatically over time from map completion and daily log in rewards. Then there are the bday presents that give them too. As new player you will have a lack of them. Veteran players tend to have more then they ever need.

    4. This is how most vet players get their store items. Buying gems with gold and buying weapon skins off trading post.

    What class did you level as? 

    Some interesting classes are Engineer and Mesmer imo. They have some unusual mechanics for a MMORPG class. An easy class for open world PVE is Reaper elite specialisation from Necromancer class.
