you have two choices, you can paste a link using the forum toolbar option or just "paste the link."

Just pasting the link seems to work if you "copy" from, say, Youtube.

Wait,  what, that was it? A slow zoom in on basically nothing of substance and then fade to black?

Oh I see, they were trying to provide an accurate representation of progress to date, check.

That was ....what you'd expect from this game.

1 person could make those 2 scenes in UE4 in an afternoon.

So good to see its progressing apace.

Well i feel so good about my hunch that i can honestly say i am expecting LESS of a game than what Vanguard was.Vanguard never survived.

The thing that makes it so darn tough for a new game is that no matter what kind of initial interest a game gets, the majority run back to games they are already playing. This is why we see soooo many quick cash grab games, just looking for that initial sale then cya later. This game however being a mmorpg is different,it MUST maintain interest over time or it will be a failure.

To get players to play Pantheon over other choices,it has to be better than those other choices and even in those cases being better might not be enough to sway for example Wow fanbois from their game.

I am not trying to be negative,i just see things in a realistic manner,it is going to be VERY tough for Pantheon to succeed.

Any word on their Voxel pre-alpha client yet?

Have they made any procedurally generated maps to sell virtual land in?  I hear that is an easy way to score 7 figures.

So.. This game has very noticeable progress because they do live streams playing in the world and if you follow any of them you see real tangible progress, more than any other crowdfunded game out there.  This is a 'Teaser'.  It's not a teaser if it's a reveal of everything done in that region.  Then it's a 'Reveal'.

I just don't get everyone who wants to throw shade at this game in the progress department.  Like there is real tangible progress showed at fairly regular intervals in which they are playing the game for a couple hours, not just demo reels.  I haven't seen that out of Ashes or Camelot.  I just see art and a god awful BR game.  I mean go through and watch all the live streams and you see real progress in animations, game mechanics, AI, level design, graphics, etc...   There is actually a MMORPG world coming to life.

If I want a world in which people can purchase success and power with cash, I'll play Real Life. Keep Virtual Worlds Virtual!

As someone interested in seeing this game come out and definitely supporting it, I think the detractors definitely have reason to voice concerns.  I actually felt less confident after todays Cohh thing, if only for the simple fact that they came out and said more donations was key to the game's release.  Now I know they were talking about time table, but you know what they weren't talking about?  If they didn't get sizable donations, where the game would stand then.  No update on expectations of PA, Alpha or Beta in the future.  Not even a general sense (3 months, 6...)  So I would say that they are making progress, but realistically how long is it going to take versus they just getting bored and not 'feeling' it anymore.

I mean people have to get sick of working on the same thing after so many years and life changes impact the teams.  That's inevitable and unavoidable, especially as the development table drags on.

I'm guessing there was a set back leading up to the stream that limited what they could show.  There is no other logical explanation.

There is no way they could think that a stream like this was going to be viewed positively.

edit: the stream was rescheduled for a later date without any explanation.  That would backup the assumption of a set back.
  • MendelMendel Member LegendaryPosts: 5,609
Nice looking images, but it is using a development camera angle, not a client perspective.  So, it could be another video made in a 3D tool, not the actual game.  Not a real glimpse at anything to do with Faerthale.  No hint of the Perception system, nor any of the special game features that was the purpose of Faerthale -- to build a complete area with the entire functionality the game will have.

The plea for more funding is probably the most disappointing thing about that <2 minute video.  All the promises of being able to complete a game seem like so many "broken promises" than anything more substantial.  Still, it appears that VR is taking steps to fully embrace the perpetual crowdfunding development model already popular with competing projects.   So, progress!  :'(

It's a nice video. There's not a lot to it, but nice just the same.

I think it's a case of the developers "sort of" being out of touch with the players.

There's a lot of work there and it "looks" good. Or at least looks like they spent a lot of work on that area.

They want to show it off. They are proud of this work.

Problem is that players, after this time, want more. It's very hard not to show people work that you think is good/great and you are excited to share it. But it seems like it's harder to know when and what one should be showing.

Looks great aside from the crouch/ready animation. Need some "Class Spotlight" style videos showing what we can expect from the gameplay. Crazy to think its about to be 2020 and this is what we've got.

Looks like some competition brewing now to who is going to cross the line first witha playable beta. :)
Between who?  Saga of Lucimia?  What other games that are coming out fit this mold?

I dont consider games that have a cash shop, or are pay to win or are non-open world or low challenge/ low penalty for failure or PvP focused etc to be even similar...regardless of the skin or the world setting.  Sounds like we have a difference of opinion.

    Good grief.

The title of the video includes the word "teaser". Teaser trailers are typically very very short snippets providing, yep.. a *tease* of more to come later.

That said, they have done hour+ streams showcasing what the game is like, showing their progress, giving previews of things in development, answering questions, etc.

But, as per usual for you, Kyleran, I'm sure you knew all that even as you typed your comment. I'd call it willful ignorance, but I think it's better described as just plain old dishonesty. Maybe even trolling.

You ask someone in this thread to post a video showing off progress. Since you can post, I assume you're capable of doing a search yourself, and are just lazy. Or, just maybe, not really interested, and made the request in poor faith.

But, in the interest of others who might wish to also see it, even if you don't, I'll post some links here.

They're longer videos, with lots of information, so an attention span is recommended.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzph6ivZtao
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi8Cq9nQV-E

And for more, here's their official YT channel, with all the information they've released to date...  All available in one place. It's almost like they put it there just in case people were genuinely interested in keeping up and educating themself about the game, instead of making stupid comments about "no progress" on a message forum. Imagine that!
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4MbaiykerIrjKWRA6407tQ/videos

Look! There's even an official website where you can learn a bunch more about the game! How unprecedented!
    http://pantheonmmo.com/

Rumor has it that people post comments and questions about the game on the forums, and the devs answer! There's even a community lead that will regularly pose questions to the forums to get feedback and insight from its followers/backers!

It's almost like there's a ton of information and feedback available about Pantheon, from multiple sources! Crazy!

The trailer would have been fine if a 50 foot tall cyclops had come crashing into the area and everyone sprang into action to take it down....and fade to black.

I want to see my Paladin in action, smiting foes, racing to do battle with terrible tree people and a band of dwarves drinking in a tavern.

I want to see videos of what my character will be doing, not just scenic panoramics he'll be viewing.

and I definitely don't want to watch discussions about boot design.

People always "want more". And "more" is "never enough".

It's always the same pattern, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to have noticed it.

Developer shows 10 different things about the game to show progress. "Person" wanted to see something about an 11th thing, but Dev didn't cover it. "Person" immediately interprets that as "the game must be in trouble, because they didn't show the stuff *I* wanted to see", or "Uh oh, I don't think the devs are going to follow through on "thing 11" because there's absolutely no reason they wouldn't show it otherwise!", or "Oh, they spent more time covering stuff that doesn't interest me. That must mean they're focusing more on a playstyle I don't like and that means the game will suck".  And on and on.

They take a pebble of information (relative to the size, scope and complexity of an entire MMO) and extrapolate it out to being a sign of the game's inevitable demise. All because they didn't get to see what they were most interested in.

It's all self-serving, instant-gratification, me-me-me-now-now-now nonsense. We live in a generation overrun with Veruca Salts.

Being a backer does not mean you get to dictate and direct what is, will, or should be shown, or when. It means you're backing the game and placing your trust and faith in the developer to get it done and produce something you are going to enjoy, with full knowledge it might not turn out that way. I say this as a backer of Pantheon and a few other titles myself.

Frankly, of all the MMO projects I've seen in development, the devs for Pantheon have been among the most up-front and forthcoming. But of course, as I said at the start... people always "want more" and "more" is "never enough".

I know you know this, Sovrath, as you've said as much yourself. But it seems many others don't get it and need regular reminders.

    Case in point...

Devs didn't show what "Person" wanted to see, therefor "it's just not good enough", while again ignoring that pesky word "teaser" right in the video description.

May I suggest an alternative?  It seems more like sarcasm than ignorance, dishonesty or trolling.  Perhaps a bit of thought would be advised before lashing out at another poster.

I've seen almost all of the videos you have listed.  I'm not including that ordeal on my resume, and it was an ordeal to watch some of those.  I've still not seen any system that wasn't present in 1999 EQ1, despite all the various claims for new system functionality and features.  For those of us who are looking for something more than the "EQ1 with better graphics", the videos don't really give any indication of all these words and promises that were lauded by the developers.  Demonstrate, not talk about.  I think everyone is past the conceptual and idea stage.
