SBS are geniuses. I finally clued onto the pattern a few months back. Take what is happening now. People thought Pre-Elyria would be coming out. So to keep people busy, they release some event, normally some lame event like the plague. But DSS fits well. Then release some promo that lasts for a month+. Then they do another event/promo. There is already talks of more events after all this is done. Which takes as well into next year.

State of Elyria will come out in the middle. Telling everyone of all these exciting times coming, leading to up Pre-Elyria. Right when Pre-Elyria is meant to come out, like you said, oh look another KS event/promo happens.

It's really bloody surprising that no one cares about SBS showing off the game and cares about giving them more stretch goals. I made a comment on the forums, about them giving us mounted combat. Got shot down that they don't want feature creep. Yet wanted and got SBS to add in more goals/features.

I'm starting to think people don't ever want to play the game and just want this "perfect" game that can't ever be made. Which reminds me of how Star Citizen is going. Better to get a good/great game that can be played sometime this lifetime.
Can we agree that if caspian is to be taken seriously, as of right now...Pre-Elyria should be close to completed, and should be out within the next 2-3 months...if it's not we will have serious doubts about whether he is stringing us along or wtf is happening over there.
Caspien on these very forums back in 2017 talked about how close they were to opening VoxElyria to players.  I continually say that people should just take his words and then check on reality a few months later.  Go back and read State Of Elyrias from prior years. Read what he said was going to happen then see what actually happened.  Read what he said about not wasting resources on the Jousting Demo and SilverMine demo and then read how they are not compatible with the current version of the game.  He’s like a politician that says anything people want to hear, and those people ignore reality and just toss more cash at him.

Not sure where I read it. Somewhere around the start of the year. I was asking where State of Elyria post was. Caspian said something like "we are more than 50% done with Pre-Elyria. We are just thinking until we are done with that, before making a State of Elyria post". Since he claimed it was only a few months away from being finished.

Skip 6-8 months later and we have not heard anything new. While they do "tease" the public with little clips of how far into Pre-Elyria they are. I can't honestly see how "we are over half way done and should wrap it up soon" to whatever the hell is going on right now.

I just dumped more into the game, getting a stupid capital. Regret that + regret backing in the first place. It honestly just feels like it's never going anywhere. I didn't believe they even go DSS out the door when they finally announced that.

I can't say I follow many other games, well MMOs, in the same situation. So hard to compare how normal this lack of communication really is. Of course I got off discord many months back. I dislike they use that, then use the fall back that anything said on there, isn't official. Besides it's full of white knights just defending and sucking Caspian off at any given moment.

How does one get so far behind?   Well... here is an example:

Perhaps now is a good time to mention that we'll be working on new musical compositions for CoE for the next 12 weeks or so.

Instead of focusing on... you know... making a playable Alpha.. they are going to focus on making music for the next 12 weeks.   Now, epic scores are great and all, but it seems like that is the kind of stuff that can come later in the process.  It's probably driven by the musician's availability but it just seems like Caspien's focus should be on getting a playable game rather than the music for a game that is years from launch.  12 weeks takes them to the New Year...

I'm sure they'll release their Christmas album in Dec, only $49.99 in the cash shop.

I love the term .."playable",that could be deciphered to mean literally anything.

The sad reality is even with soooooo many fails and struggles by all the free  loader type developers,we keep getting more of them day after day.Sure every squirrel finds a nut and gets lucky like Star Citizen but in reality, these crowd funded games are a terrible idea for the gamer's hope for AAA games.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Dev is too unprofessional for the AAA market.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

    Now hold it right there.

Randy Pitchford combines sensitive company information and underage porn on USB drives that he leaves at public venues.

Riot Games's COO farts on people at work.

I think I have a different understanding of what the AAA market considers suitably 'professional' for company leadership.

Err, why bring AAA into the conversation,  nothing even closely resembling that market with regards to SBS.

Well, they have been doing a song and dance number to get more donations.  That, at least, isn't new.  I suppose they want to be known as composers, too.  More role-playing in their future, I guess.  Is the name "Caspientoven" taken?

But, yeah, nothing pretty much covers it.

Just who is working on new musical compositions? Usually only audio professionals have the skills needed for that.

According to their Kickstarter Sean Beeson is making the music, though I don't know if that's changed since.
  • Slapshot1188Slapshot1188 Member LegendaryPosts: 16,983
Another update.  He confirmed that Beeson is still the composer and that he is apparently signed to a "several month contract"...

    Caspian ☁Today at 11:45 AM

As was mentioned last week, there's a several month contract in place for getting music into the game now. So a lot exciting there. Looking forward to hearing all the final pieces. Oh! And that reminds me. I think we re-recorded the client from last week to fix the echo. I'll have to post that today.

    Another great quote:
Caspian cloud: Don't stay up tonight to see what the recipes are.
Caspian cloud: Some members of our web team are out sick with the flu and I just discovered that the script to award the recipes wasn't complete. So we'll have to finish the script and run it tomorrow.
Caspian cloud: It's midnight for us. Nobody is making announcements tonight. I wouldn't have even discovered that the recipe script wasn't complete if I hadn't logged in to check on something else.

There he goes, throwing his team under the bus again...classic Caspian....good thing he's there to save the day.

A bit telling perhaps that they continue to wait until the 11th hour (literally and figuratively in this case) to complete work which one might think should have been finished before now.

This team is either horribly overworked or very under staffed, probably a bit of both.

Apparently his team didn't have any time to go get their flu shots whereas my employer provided it at the office for free last week as a "wellness" benefit.

Working for an "evil corporate overlord" has its perks sometimes.  ;)

It is almost like employers are invested in having healthy staff, come on lets get back to the latest thriller/SF or adventure TV where our evil overlords want to kill us all. :)

He made the whole thing up, you tend to notice when people are not at their desks, not as if he runs a company with hundreds of staff.
