The best chance this game has is if it disappears off the radar for a few years. Then re surfaces at some point with shock and awe footage that would amaze everyone, where people say "I never expected that"..... Then I would feel good about it.
Unfortunately, all investors would be mad..... However I think they will soon be angry anyway.
Going Dark like Saga of Lucimia is a good idea. But that game is far enough along were they can allow investors to play the game.
Pantheon, investors are just kept in the dark.... theirs a difference !
I receive updates in my e-mail and there are developer round tables. Last was posted Sept. 6th.
Of course the one before that was a whopping August 2nd. And before that? Yeah, July 5th. If only there was some sort of pattern when we could figure out when the next would be ...
But that's unpossible.
You do realize, what your talking about is all on paper and nothing factual ? You do understand that right ?
The famous Pantheon map that everyone savors for the last few years was created WELL BEFORE THE GAME..... Think about this as you read the news letters !
Do you have any inside scoop on release?.......how far along they are with class and world development, or are you reading fluff ?
Am I assuming by "paper" you mean the videos on youtube? You made a statement that pantheon fans are kept in the dark. But they aren't kept in the dark.
Your issue, and it's an issue, is that you are stomping your foot like a kid 'cause you want to play nowwwwwwwwwww!!!!
You want in nowwwwwwwwwwww!!!
My prediction about you stands. If and when this game launches you will play it and then come to the forums with a litany of complaints 'cause it wasn't the game in your head. Like I and others have said, for you, the best thing to do is to "go dark" (like you suggested they do though I and others are enjoying the monthly updates and discussions) and come back if and when the game launches so you can then try it and end your suffering and move on to another game.
If there is another "old school game" at all.

What I can say for sure is if Pantheon starts, I dont want to level 6 crafters again, as I did in Vanguard.
I wasted so much time to level 6 crafters in Vanguard, only to have the game shut down when I finally had them all near maxlevel. Really could have spent that time in a better way.
These are the facts we know. It speculated that initial development may have
started back in 2012 especially for them to already have gameplay footage at

It sort of depends on what we define as "the game," as it seems they pretty much went back to scratch at some point. See below.

Fast forward seven years and we are
still looking at pre alpha gameplay footage.:D
The first link I can't access but I know the kickstarter was in 2014, February.
there are two bits of in game (assuming that's the game) footage in that video with characters with animation so sure, they must have been working on it at least for part of 2013.
Yet, if they had very limited funds at that time and had to struggle to get funds until after the kickstarter I still don't see the issue. It's not like they were a large, fully funded studio at that time. It took time to get money to ramp up the studio.
Also that's 6 years not 7. And if we can accept that they weren't a full fledged working studio until they actually did their own fund raising then suddenly it's more understandable.
I mean, this is their may 2014 update:
WE’RE BUILDING A NEW DEVELOPMENT TEAM. The game is entering a new phase right now. We need to put even more together about the game for the community and for, in the near future, potential investors. As mentioned earlier, development of the game continues, albeit right now at a slower pace. We are looking for volunteers who can help us during this phase and, if everything works out as planned, we hope that some of the volunteers will be part of this new team going forward. So development continues, that development will be shown to the community, and one of our goals (along with continuing to make the game of course) is more to show potential investors in the next 1-2 months.

Sovrath…………
How can you say the company has been transparent when the lead
developer (Brad Mcquaid) was accused of taking 35K from the Crowdfunding
Campaign. Please see the link below.
Dude, let's not get into how they run their business, especially that pitfall. We know all about why that happened and it's been discussed to death.
I mean, here you go, from that article:
“Brad admits that it was a mistake and wishes things worked out differently but the money is spent and there isn’t anything he can do. He then went on to express that he was sorry for how it happened and is planning on liquidating personal assets to put the funds back into the project.”
So we know more than most people do about the inner workings of a game development company.
I'm talking about their development. And remember, a company doesn't have to make monthly updates or send out e-mails and create newsletters during development. They do. Could do they do more? er sure? could they do less? er sure?

Yes, the Brad incident is old stuff. Unfortunately, it is also a "first impression" for many people. For some, a bad first impression is hard to shake. The optics of that mistake was very bad. No matter how much this community doesn't want to discuss it, it is a part of VR's history. It's likely to come up again.
For myself, I'd rather that VR would have kept the game out of the public eye until they were completely ready for marketing and Beta testing. That didn't happen, and the next game is probably going to follow the "Pay to Test" model, too. I'll get used to it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I think that's how most game companies should run. But I suppose sometimes they have to build up expectations so they can see if people want their game or even to get funding.
But, as far as any creators' dirty laundry, I've been exposed to enough writers, artists, composers, "whatever" that I fully know to ignore the artist and concentrate on the art.
As I've said before, if people actually met their "heros" they might just be disappointed if not just plain disgusted.
Samuel Barber is one of my favorite, if not my MOST favorite composer. But after reading his Biography I feel I'd want to smack him if I had met him when he was alive.

This is not a case of a one-off mistake that Brad McQuaid
has made. Did his mismanagement not lead
to utter failure of Vanguard Saga of Hero’s?
a 30 million dollar screw up. All
the talented game designers at Sigil games lost their jobs due to his mismanagement. Please see link below
Tell me Amathe what did he do with his second chance? Start a new company and embezzle funds from
it.
But hey don`t let me put you off donating money to visionary

any month now.
You should actually read that article. It's a good read and a nice bit of insight into the process and what happened to the game.
Game ran for years, wasn't very popular but it was the only game (I think I could have been subscribed to lord of the rings online also) that I subbed to. I didn't sub to Sony's station pass for access to all their games. Just Vanguard.

After following since the kickstarter or slightly before, and following more closely than anyone, I have lost faith in VR. Do I think the game will release?...yes. Do I think it will be a game I will want to play long term? Not a chance.
The best chance this game has is if it disappears off the radar for a few years. Then re surfaces at some point with shock and awe footage that would amaze everyone, where people say "I never expected that"..... Then I would feel good about it.

Do you have any inside scoop on release?.......how far along they are with class and world development, or are you reading fluff ?
You know, NDA and all, he couldn't say if he did know for a fact.
My big question is....... Is their anything yet to have an NDA in place for.
A few months ago I was playing an mmorpg with a great guild that was always on discord. Their all about Pantheon and almost all backers. Lengthy discussions were discussed on Discord about the game because the excitement was deep.
NDA and all, their no more informed than us. They were talking in detail much like us. In fact by me being here getting the latest, I was telling them stuff they didn't know.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still all about Pantheon. I'm totally ok with waiting, just saying it's not even started yet..... NDA for what ?...Playing around with textures ?
Well, I haven't kept up too much on it, figure it will make the wait not take so long. So after reading this thread, I went and looked at some stuff, watched a couple videos. Sounds like the plan is that the next pre-alpha is the last one, before alpha (They said they went semi-dark to work on some features and such). Alpha is supposed to have all the features in place when it launches. A lot more people will be in the game at Alpha. I personally would not be surprised if Alpha lasted for a year (they don't give dates on purpose, so this is just me and stuff I have heard long ago), and then beta another 6-12 months. This is just what I think. So I am looking at 2-2.5 years before launch personally. In the next 6 months people will probably have a good idea where they are at, even with a NDA, stuff gets out, once you get to Alpha and have a lot more people playing. Them doing a publicity push this far out seems silly and a waste of money to do, any more than they do now on social media. I get updates all the time, and I will be honest, I don't pay much attention, just because of how far out we still are.
Edit: I could also see it being 3 years, depending on how long the last pre-alpha is.
If we use Darkfall as an example then we can safely say
pantheon should be released in the next 15 years.
You guys just don't read the articles you post do you?
7 years. Not six. They "claimed" there was a beta internally after 6 years but no from the public saw it until the 7th year.
Just like delete "claims" that if developers state something then it's "only on paper."
And honestly? Claims, whether private or public are just that. If I say that a game is "finished" and I play it and it's just an unfinished mess then it's not finished.
In 2014 the Pantehon dev team was remade. So that is pretty much going back to the beginning in many ways.
Delete's claims come more from his "I want it nowwwww" than anything else. Until he says something that has real merit he just grand stands and essentially throws virtual temper tantrums.
Sorry delete, but to me, that's how your posts come through.
If a game looks to me like it's in beta then it's in beta. Pantheon is probably some version of Alpha due to money issues and remaking their team. That makes sense. There is no "we announce the game and now we have x amount of years to get it done or else we don't fit the imaginayr timeline."
With any project, it gets done when it gets done.
As far as I'm concerned they have a dungeon and outside areas. That's it. Since Brad has released 2 games, and 2 games that I hold in high regard, I know he has the ability to do it. What state it's released is another thing entirely but just read the article you posted. It's a great read.
I game them $100. That's what their efforts merited from me. If they release it great. If not then too bad but "great."
But whining, like delete does, because he can't play it after a certain amount of time is annoying at best. I wonder if he gave them money? I ask because I've asked him this before but I don't recall an actual answer.
@delete: did you give Pantheon money? Simple question.

Should result in me having a lot more free time to play games.....good thing I live under a bridge where its cheap.
That's a good point but I'm assuming you aren't creating something "then" selling it. You are probalby hired to create something that must fit into another's timeline or you are working for a company and creating solutions to whatever web initiatives (or whatever) that they have.
With a small game company, it's true that they they need to work within whatever budget they have, but if that budget trickles in and allows them to continually work, then, as long as they aren't dealing with a publisher, they can work on it as they can. That's where this company seems to fall.

There's the thing, whether a game is created by a giant publisher or small indie, development can only continue until the funding (and stakeholder patience) run out, then it has to launch, ready or not.

I don't disagree. But as long as they have funding then they can take the time they want. Or, spread out development "as" they have funding.
This goes back to my issue with Delete's insistence that they pick it up. I don't think they have the funding to "pick it up" and have paced themselves as they've had the money.

This is exactly what happened to Vanguard Soh. However, trying to explain this to a fanboy

Buddy, grow up. I'm not a fanboy. I've said many times before that there is a good chance the game won't launch and I'm fine with it, even though I've given money. But you need to actually think and look at what is being said/offered. Not just post things you haven't read.
