I've been playing the past few days. Its a decent game.

Its basically MHW lite with a better co-op, and not nearly enough weapon options.

Dauntless is Monster Hunter arcade. And that's fine. Most of the tracking, hunting, exploration, etc. has been trimmed to focus on the combat. This is a good idea.

But here's the problem... Dauntless' combat is nowhere near as good as Monster Hunter's. In fact, it kind of sucks. It has too few weapon types. The weapons that it does have are all simplistic. There is very little nuance to using them. Hitboxes are totally broken with player attacks that should connect missing for no discernible reason.

Dauntless should be focusing in on its combat. Giving the weapons nuanced combos that put MH weapons to shame. Tightening up hitboxes and frames. Making character roles and builds feel robust. But... it doesn't seem like they will ever get there.

The other problem is that phoenix labs have accepted epics hand (possibly some sort of sustainability clause so epic still promote dauntless) and all they create lately is transmogs (similar effect to fortnites pay model) and content is actually lacking the last behemoth added was a long time ago now and as a free to play experience the experiences are pretty lacking

Combat is roll stagger combo rinse repeat it doesnt have any sense of danger or any sense of improvement since once u get the roll cracked down u are basically invulnerable to EVERY attack, even in monster hunter there is still unblockable attacks JUST to break up combat so its not an easy ride

Its a good game for like 6 weeks - 2 months then u have everything armor wise maxed out then all you do is log in every now and then to add stuff to the cell combiner to get 2 +3 cells of each type

Generally speaking the move to epic has shifted pirorities for the company b4 all this seasonal crap came out behemoths were a regular thing as was new weapon development after moving to epic they copied this seasonal bullcrap and just pushed the transmogs this has gone on for like 6 months atleast and they consider it content and before anyone starts trials are not content its recycled behemoths with another modifier a dodge roll will let u avoid that crap!

Not to mention Monster Hunter World is WAY more immersive.

Can't wait for Dauntless 2 launch where the devs won't save every penny possible on characters design and animations.
