The acclimation system is working out to be a buffing system that only applies to the effects provided by the climate system.  I'm not entirely sold on this as a radically *new* system and don't really know if it will be anything more than a curiosity system.  Anyway, I'm glad to see some actual details beyond just unbounded hype about a vague description.  While the details still seem a bit sparse, at least there is some evidence that work is progressing, albeit slowly.  (1 of 6 climates done?  All HP-based at that.  Talk about a glacial pace.)

Still, it's good to see something that might be able to provide any kind of diversion from the ongoing COE delays/soap opera.

(Fwiw, I did like the artwork for that ogre).

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

The climate system is cool (no pun) to me from an immersion perspective. It would be better if there were corresponding animations, such as your character shivering and having visible breath in the cold.

But from a gaming perspective you could argue it is a lot of gating. Can't run this because you need a +3 cold buff. Can't run that because no +4 fire buff. Go grind out your buffs.

But then again, that is not new really? There are lots of games (such as EQ, WoW, GW2) where you need certain resistances in order to fight certain bosses. I'm not sure I understand the difference between needing a certain level of cold resistance like there is in EQ or WoW, and a climate cold buff. If they really are about the same, this looks like a lot of work is going into making a system where it would have been easier just to add cold resistance to certain items, potions, and spells.

Well, there's nothing to say that we won't see the character's breath.

I might have gone a simpler route in that a player would just need appropriate clothing to fight off the effects of extreme climate "but" would never completely be out of its grasp.

A nice feature taken straight from Monster Hunter, it is a way of gating though.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I dont like the idea that I may not be able to use that awesome breastplate I just won yesterday because we are doing a cold zone today, but maybe they could have something like thermal underwear.

Yeah but that's a "game mmo" mindset and not "a world."

The idea that every bit of gear you acquire is always "one better" and is a stepping stone to the next bit of gear.

As opposed to players owning several sets of gear which they use when they need something specific.

It's like survival mode in skyrim. I "could" wear my metal gear in the coldest parts of the map but fur is much better. So I might have crafted some daedric or ebony but that will only be used when I can use it.
