While it will be great to have another race and appearance option, the much bigger news with this is that they'll be adding a race-change service to LotRO. So, unlike when they added High Elves, you won't have to start all over again from scratch!
To be honest, I don't see the appeal of the race change... don't get me wrong, I welcome it for more options is always the better - if there's only a handful of players using it, already makes it a good addition. But I will pass on it personally.
Race is now (unlike after launch, with the cap of level 50) only cosmetic, the racial traits are almost invisible and even the skill is sub-par, at most.
If someone doesn't like how the character looks, it's easy to reroll in the early levels, and for well-developed characters, as I said, just don't see it... having an elf (or any other) for years and suddenly on a whim changing its looks to a dwarf (etc.) seems unlikely.
Looks only, since the starter zone you only see when you roll a fresh character, and gameplay-wise there's no other impact...
(elf into high elf is the exception, they look almost the same so I can understand why lots of players requested it, an easy switch instead of leveling up a new alt from scratch)
Might have a different view if it would include classes (like using a race change to roll a dwarf rune-keeper then switch into a hobbit) but they stated race-class restrictions will stay in effect.

I would say that for some people aesthetics are just as important as anything else. If someone goes through the game and after a while they realized that they just wanted a dwarf over an elf then "sure."
I can say that I find it intriguing as I'm leveling a character on the legendary servers but in truth, I've been over that stuff for quite some time. I'm more intrigued about the new content.
I'd love to take my level 102 character on Brandywine and make it an "actual" High Elf.

lotro is my first mmorpg, played since launch, loved it until level 100 expansion, stopped to play until level 105 released, then played on/off since then, now totally lost interest, uninstalled game long time ago. No major issues against this game, just lost interest, the game is getting old, community is getting smaller and smaller....., after all, there are many mmorpgs out there to keep me going, I mean the more 'modern' mmorpgs, it's time to move on. Good luck to lotro.

I find LoTRO is very hard to get back into once you've been a way from it.
Changing race at the drop of a hat is ridiculous, it has the 'ring' of a GaaS about it. As to this new "race" they are still Dwarves are the not? But taller, I think that is a bit odd, it reminds me in fact of the absurd younger dwarves in Jackson's The Hobbit. Lets make them look more human, FFS.
This game is still going? I haven't played since 2010 maybe 2009?
Did they ever update the Graphics?
IDK why I thought they shut this down. Didn't Turbine games shut down?
The game has had a few small graphics upgrades. They've reworked a few animations but again mostly tweaks.
Turbine has been renamed to WB Games Boston. Standing Stone Games LLC was spun off from former employees headed by Rob Ciccolini. They acquired Lord of the Rings Online and D&D Online. The publisher shifted from Warner Brothers to Daybreak.
Not sure if being able to change your race is good idea - I understand why some people want to do it, but for me it kills the immersion that is almost the only reason I might want to play LotRO.
Not enthusiastic about new race.
Beornings were nice. Not sure how about lore (remind me how many Beorns took part in defending Helms Deep) - but they were something different.
Hgh elves were "so-so". We joked about "Middle elves", "Low elves".
Stout axe Dwarves could be an NPC faction, like Zelruka ones. Another Dwarf race - just no? Or would we have Stinky Pie Hobbits? Low men? Abstinent Elves?

How does it kill immersion any more than you have a buddy playing and dwarf and he then logs into his hobbit. same guy, same banter, just a different name. Now he has a hobbit but the same name as the dwarf had.
I would say rune keepers are more immersion breaking.

I am going back to play Lotr again , anyone want to come join?
not if I can help it. Dont want to be nickle and dime'd to death again, on subscription.
What game are you talking about? LOTRO is one of the most fair models I've seen. I pay my sub and...that's it, I haven't felt like I need to buy anything else from the store and with the free points I get from my sub and deeds, I've got a few nifty trinkets/mounts from the store.
In order for Devs to survive they have to add some kind of content, can't blame these guys for trying. I've had plenty of fun over the years so, no complaints.

I must've misunderstood what I briefly read then, because it sounded like all races could be all classes except Beorning?
Gut Out!
What, me worry?
