Nintendo has finally announced its next iteration on the Switch, this time pithily called "Switch Lite". The new version is considered as being "dedicated to handheld gaming" and features integrated controls rather than joycons. Switch Lite will be available starting September 20th for a retail price of $199.99. It comes in three colors: Yellow, turquoise and gray. A special Pokemon Edition has also been announced that will be available "while supplies last".

Or get a new pair of glasses :)
    God bless.
Reminds me of the old gameboy days, it's nice the young generation has something like this.
And for gamers that fly a lot, its also nice, but yeah, an adult would just get the normal version i guess.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

No thanks. 95% of my Switch play is in docked mode.

I'm kind of torn. I still play my 3DS outside the house occasionally but if I did get a Switch I'd want the option to play it on my TV. The lower price point makes it tempting though, the biggest reason I don't have a Switch yet is that until recently they cost $440 Australian and I always seem to have other expenses.

If they were to announce a docked only switch with a larger hard-drive and better hardware, I'd consider buying that.

I think a lot of lonely mmo dudes already have plenty of that ;)
So that's why they call it a joy-con!

Hopefully no power leads in the bottom though... Unless that's what they dig of course :D

Well, I'll be the voice of dissent. I held off on buying a switch when the rumor of this dropped. Knowing I'd be playing mostly in handheld mode, it made sense to see what they'd come up with. I will, however, be waiting for less fugly colors...

This is great, the vast majority of Switch gameplay is in hand held mode, and this just drops the price and gets rid of the Dock that most people never use. Especially for those of us who have multiple Switches, its just less hardware we are never going to use cluttering up the area. Nintendo is going away from any system( i.e 3DS ) but the Switch, and the Switch will be their new handheld system, it is only natural they come out with a cheaper and more slimmed down version for those who only want it is a handheld device for games such as Pokemon.

Are they finally ready to admit the Switch isn't a real console? Sorry, but not once have I ever considered it anything but a handheld.

I loved my playstation portable (psp) back then. Playing newer games and the classic PSX games on the go.

Sure at home I'd use my computer, but the portability is quite nice.

Battery life is not impressive compared to the original. Don't see a reason to buy this if you already have one. I fly for work regularly so I get a lot of use out of my switch but if there's no increased battery life then I don't really care.

People who play exclusively in docked mode confuse me. This console is largely portable based.

It's like buying a laptop and not taking it anywhere. I don't know if you get the point of it.

    I don't think you do!

We purchased a Switch primarily for Breath of the Wild. Which has give us countless hours of entertainment. And still going strong.

It's also very portable so we can take it when we go on vacation. For our upcoming Canadian Rockies trip we can play it on the train when we want a break from all the awesome.

But we're not out and about video game players.

There are no other options to play current Nintendo console titles. It doesn't matter if anyone gets the point, they don't have any options. People want options.
The games are graphically pleasing enough to be console experiences while providing unique IPs not available anywhere else.

If you are a turn based strategy lover, Fire Emblem is its pinnacle. If you are a 3d platformer lover, you won't find a better one than Mario Odyssey. Etc.

The console also has distinct advantages over the PS4 and XBox one. Shorter download times from physical media. Longer controller battery life. Lighter weight controllers. More convenient co op features. Fast loading times. Instant, convenient, and power efficient sleep mode.

    And yes, optional portability.

Fully agreed. People only focus on the docked/portable advantage and miss everything else. It has a lot more going for it. The instant resume function alone is worth its weight in gold to me. I am playing 5 seconds after picking up my Switch.

'the only way he could nail it any better is if he used a cross.'

    Kyleran on yours sincerely

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

That's one of the biggest things for me. It's allowed me to fit actual quality video games (not smart phone guff) into irregular daily periods in which I otherwise would not be able to reliably do so.

And... it's inherently power surge proof. I can play during a storm without fear. If that power goes out, it switches to hand held mode, my progress is safe, and I can even continue playing as a hand held.

    Remarkable piece of tech.
