It's time for players to dive into Nazjatar, one of two new zones launching in World of Warcraft as part of v8.2 Rise of Azshara. Players will also be traveling to Mechagon as well as find updates to the Heart of Azeroth system, Heritage Armor quests for Gnomes and Tauren; the new Benthic gear, and Azshara's Eternal Palace raid. To celebrate today's launch, Blizzard released the Alliance cinematic (Horde to come later) that introduces the new storyline.

So total random question about WOW. I haven't played in years and now that I have additional time, I was thinking of starting up again. Question is, do I have to raid? I know WOW is focused on end game raiding but honestly I don't have the time for groups/raids/pvp due to having young children. Could I still get decently geared just playing PVE and enjoy the game just as well?
    Thank you in advance!

No you do not need to raid, even if you do want to just dip your toes into raiding you can do the Looking For Raid queue, which will take you to the easiest version of the raids with random people.

You get better gear from world quests than you do from doing the normal versions of the raid (but the highest end gear is still obtained from mythic difficulty).

It's still a fun game, and even without the raiding aspect you can still do quite a bit.

Yes you do NEED to raid. Attempting to get by on the table scrap content alone will get boring after a week.

There simply isn't enough content that doesn't require voice communication to over come idiotic mechanics.

Fall in line or find a new game. 14 years and counting and they still can't come up with anything else.

Must cater to tiny subset of vocal twits...... If your game relies on external 3rd party voice programs with strangers to over come convoluted dance routines, then they've failed. Everything should be attainable and accessible without relying on external factors. Voip should be a bonus for tight knit groups of friends, not the defining factor.

I used to play and stand by staunchly. It's the game I've poured the most hours into and it used to be my favourite game. But with how atrociously the game changed I started losing interest. I had close to no hype for BfA, it hit and even then, it failed to meet any of my very low expectations.

One of the biggest pulls was always the Lore/Story. Always wishing one day I'd meet and fight the likes of Azshara.

The day has finally come and I'm actually sad, because the only reaction I can muster after it all is just a big resounding... "Oh okay... " as I keep scrolling away from the news or tab away to a different website and quickly forget about it all.

This is it in a nutshell and why I often find it difficult to enjoy many games, mainly MMOs.

If games cannot find challenging and REWARDING things to do at endgame for a solo player, regardless of the game or genre, in 2019...then they should be ashamed. Ive been clamoring for an MMO for YEARS for an endgame experience that is has solo endgame challenges that reward you as much as raiding does for an equal amount of challenge (less communicating and dealing with 20 other personalities).

So far, sadly the best MMO solo endgame experience I can find is GW2. 90% of the activities in the game you can do on your own or at the very least stumble upon a mass of people participating in some large scale meta event that is rewarding. As far as challenge goes, fractals (5 man dungeon, we all have time for a 20-30 minute run) are the most challenging and unique 5man experience Ive seen in an MMO. Beyond that, you dip into raids and things just get convoluted where you dont want to spend your valuable time.

No need for raiding, you can get good gear from mythic dungeons and there is always pvp as well. Not sure why u dislike raids or maybe just don't have time for it but my "raiding guild" does it 2-3 times a week and it lasts for 2h. So its not that time consuming. Always nice to try to complete a raid at least once for the awesome cinematics :) and a nice achievement.

I have been playing for around 10 yrs and have raided about 5 times and all that in WOTLK. I don't raid now and won't raid again. Don't have the time or will to do it. I enjoy it without raiding and you can still get some nice gear. As already said though, the best stuff is locked behind high-end raiding, as it should be.

Now is a good time as well. Lots of changes with 8.2 that went live today. I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

Amen! It was bad enough on Vent in the day dealing with trolls and misfits, now dedicated VOIP with criminal elements and worse? They kill people offline for losing $2 bets. That's what VOIP does now.

Ah, play with people you know and cut that public VOIP cord (they record what you say; reedit to their POV, then upload the carefully edited copy, to mock you junk). Avoid all the crap that lowers the quality of a social game itself. You can find other ways to socialize anyway.

Because of abuse of VOIP, we're now playing MMOs solo or via private chats not connected to games itself. Once you do that the game is 10x better ... and you can listen to your own music and enjoy the game, too.

Thank you all for sharing your input and comments, I do appreciate. As someone asked above about time constraints, I will elaborate more. I used to enjoy PVP, Raids, FPS just like the majority of you. Unfortunately, having to take breaks for the kids or to help out really isn't fair to 1. the family, 2. my gaming experience 3. the gaming community. I used to be that person that would get mad if someone went afk during a raid or fps battle, but now I am that person. So looking back I feel bad on how I acted lol, which isn't fair to other players as a whole. I try to steer to games that are "pauseable" but I do miss the massive MMO's. Maybe the Switch can come out with a good MMO so I can take it on the go!
    Thanks again everyone
