It’s summer. You know what that means! It’s way too hot to go outside, and the perfect time to play games all day (at least, that’s what I tell myself). The problem? There’s just not a whole lot I find that I want to play. So, that begs the question – what are you waiting for? In the world of MMOs, specifically, I’m going to rattle off what’s on my “do want” list, and hope you’ll join in me in needlessly wishing for games that aren’t here yet.

    Fire. Emblem. Three. Houses.

I haven't had a vacation all year because I lined up a week just to play it. I cannot fucking wait. Oh my god. 1 month and 6 days. Aagghhhh!!!

Any MMO launched in September won't get a look at from me until Xmas, assuming good reviews, give it some time to settle in.

"FFXIV is one of those games I love for everything it is, but can’t stick with because as a usually-solo player, the combat is just so mind-numbingly boring."

You have answered your own question. Remember those reviews of survival games and SotA (not sure Bill did one), "good playing with mates", well FFIV has a lot more to do than a survival game, join a guild and the combat is not an issue.

Destiny 2 going F2P, not sure I can remember a MMO that got better after it went F2P but open to suggestions.

"It feels like I’m always waiting on games, then playing them for a week or two, then waiting more."

You have "butterfly syndrome" not uncommon now that we play in MMOs that go into overdrive to hold our attention for 10 minutes and then do little for end game. We are what we play and it is becoming difficult not to take on butterfly traits.

Was waiting for the gunner class and the exotic holster which came out yesterday for TD2 and the Necro which I'm now playing for ESO, along with taking an alt or two through Elsweyr, plus finishing up more DLC quest-lines.

The only mmorpg I play with any regularity is Lord of the Rings Online. So, sort of waiting on Pantheon if it releases. Also Camelot Unchained but I'm less exciting about that one.

    Elder Scrolls VI?

Played through entire MSQ in FFXIV over the last ~6-8 weeks, was definitely a bit of a slog but also a great story and fun gameplay.

Bill if you don't like the combat in FFXIV try another class/job!

I really enjoyed Red Mage (first to 70) as it's a very active rotation/priority/builder/spender system. I've heard good things about Ninja and Monk if you're into faster paced.

Haven't played any healers yet, but tanks I've played a good chunk of Dark Knight and Paladin, Dark Knight is definitely faster/more active but I enjoy Paladin more TBH. Trying to get my Paladin to 70 before the expansion drops in <2 weeks (currently 60.)<br />
Also EVERYONE seems to be leveling DK for Shadowbringers.

Beyond FFXIV, might check out Destiny 2 in September. Still a super fun game, but for me only to play casually. I can really only play 1 game at a time "hardcore" and that's been FFXIV.

I'll probably try Astellia, against my better judgement. Every first impressions video I've seen suggests it is just a slightly less repellent version of a game like Bless. Strangely I'd rather start something mediocre fresh where the mechanics are new to me rather than go back to older games I've played where I know exactly how the 'new' content cycle is going to feel.

I'd play more single player RPG's but I kind of like the possibility of socializing in mmo's. I've met at least a few decent people in every game I've played so far.

Not sure. First, the next season of Stranger Things. Then I will check and see how Ship of Heroes is coming along. Plus I keep telling myself I am going to play Project Gorgon.

To be honest, I'm more keen on the single-player or co-op games that aren't out yet, but coming soonish: Outer Worlds, Cyberpunk 2077 Watchdogs: Legion, Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

I am playing ESO very casually as a co-op RPG with my partner but that's pretty much it on the MMO-side for the time being.

I've little to no interest in returning to WoW yet...maybe not until the next expansion. FFXIV is simply not my thing at all and GW2 is something I go back to for tiny snips of time every now and again.

Cataclysm update in Anthem is couple weeks away (probably).

And for the first time since I've started playing games in the past millennium (heh) I'm not waiting for any game. Current set of upcoming titles is mildly disappointing. Ghost Recon will have fixed classes (same - bad - scheme is used in in GR Wildlands PvP and The Divsion 2), Destiny does not have third-person view, there are zero decent (Black-Desert-level) MMORPGs in development.

I'm mildly optimistic about Gears 5 but I've never played the game and cannot say I really like what I've seen so far (Gears 4 has a bit too simple visuals for a major game released in 2016).

    Thank you for your time!

Never understand what makes a male character in korea needs so much armor, but the female magically has the ability repel attacks with lingere ?
A lot of fantasy universes have a super strong armor material that is completely transparent, but really bothers the skin on males of most races.  It works fine on females, though, so they use it extensively in female armors.

A few days ago...I had a plan I was sticking to and happy with: LOTRO until i'm bored and then ESO to finally give that the time it deserves.

I was enjoying LOTRO, and then I DL'd 3 or 4 different old/new games for some unknown reason!

So this is my new plan starting tonight: LOTRO until I'm bored, ESO until I'm bored, Neverwinter until I'm bored, Star Trek until I'm bored, BDO until I'm bored, and then Terraria as a palette cleanser.

Yeah, that sounds good! That's a good plan...until next week.

    Gut Out!

Agree wholeheartedly, I would be first in line for a new version of GW1. So many great mechanics in that game. Like many others here I keep looking for the next great mmo. I'm still loving ESO and I might try the SWTOR 6.0 expansion when it comes out for old times sake, but I haven't seen anything that grabs me for a new mmo experience yet.

I doubt we'll ever see such a thing from Anet/NCSoft. It wouldn't be an actual Guild Wars. But everything that made the first game great and unique is achievable with a new or different IP.

Personally, I think that a GW1 spiritual successor could totally be in Larian's wheelhouse. It could even use a D&D or Divinity license.

Same. I go back to FFXIV quite a bit. Then I leave after a month, maybe two. It does most things right. I will always recommend it to others. However, it's too fine tuned for me. It feels like there is zero wiggle room in combat. You have your set rotations or priority skills. Deviating from those will get you a ton of hate, or a serious loss in efficiency, in a game where you're forced to group to progress. It's balanced a little too well, if that makes sense?

I don't know. I just know I eventually lose interest. I like just about everything about FFXIV. At the end of the day though I find it stressful and realize I'm not enjoying myself. That's not what I play games for so I always end up moving on.

Only games I am looking forward to are Cyberpunk 2077, FFVII Remake, and in the distant future Baldur's Gate 3. I'm currently still trying to work my way through Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Most of my hours in these types of games are put into character creation. Perfect build FINALLY! *Twenty minutes later* Hmm, would like to see the dialogue options in this conversation with a Lawful Good Paladin *re-roll*
