Specifically, will they be swarmed by gold farming bots and chat spam?
Gold was difficult to come by in WOW's early days and it practically spawned the "Chinese" gold farming industry turning it into a monolith.
Few may recall how prolific it was but I'll confess, I spent a significant amount of cash on a couple of horses for my son and I back on our first characters.
I wasn't alone, I knew numerous working adults who did likewise, for either themselves or their children.
Now by the time the 2nd year rolled around Blizzard had made changes. Most gear was BOP with only some mid level BOE items, and earning gold seemed easier.
I rerolled on a new server and it was much easier to earn enough gold when I needed to, even when paying for raiding supplies and repairs.
Will Blizzard be offering their token system in Classic or could we see a return of gold farming bots across the land?

Let that process.
I think you are misremembering early game BoEs. Twinking was huge in EQ so that was a really hot topic when WoW came out, and their answer was BoEs that have level requirements and few blue items where not BoP.
I don't remember them addressing it other than adding dailies. I had an account when WoW first came out, got to lvl 60, life got too busy so I sold the account on ebay for a ton of money. I went back some time later, a good time before BC and leveling and my strategy was pretty much exactly the same, except this time I bought gold to avoid grinding for a mount, and then again for an epic mount. I don't remember any items that changed from BoE to BoP.
I certainly could be wrong, and I do remember a lot of item stat changes for lots of items (for mainly BoP) but not anything about BoEs being made into BoPs.

Get all portals.
Sell teleports to everybody in your capital.
Get rich.
I was never short on gold during Vanilla.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

- Warlocks and Paladins get a free mount at 40.
-Harvesting can make you more money than crafting in most cases....Selling the mats !...... herbalism, or mining for the first, then skinning for the second. At very high level you have the opposite, so this only holds true for making 90 gold for level 40 mount.
-First Aid, make a decision, if you take it, it's nice to quickly self heal. However the mats such as cloths are the BEST money maker on the auction in the game.
-Crafting bags are nice (everyone needs them), BUT everyone will have this idea making your selling power worthless.
Your first character is very painful to make 90 gold by level 40. However after 40 you make tones of gold, even by simply doing quest.
My suggestion is play Warlock or Paladin. as you get higher in level, you can supply your other characters. Harvest anyway, to make even more money !
However play what you like is more important for fun, and suffer through harvesting.
As a Paladin at launch my income came from killing things.....very slowly.... so my income growth was equally slow, especially as most of my gathering mats went to paying for engineering, which proved to be the big mistake.
But we really wanted to make rocket boots....too bad they misfired so often.

I recall Druids being able to run an epic quest for a (flying?) mount, but definitely no free Pally mounts at launch.

Oh my no, I quite easily earn enough money IRL in just a few hours to purchase tons of gold, saving dozens of tedious hours farming for it.
