Today's a huge day for Albion Online with its free to play launch. Veterans and the new generation of players will be able to enjoy all of the numerous updates made to Albion since launch, up to and including the recently released Oberon update. F2P doesn't mean that development stops either. Sandbox Interactive has big plans for large updates throughout 2019, so it's a great time to dive into the innovative game world.

    Big day for Albion! :)

My only regret is that it's full-loot PvP. I really love the art style of the game, but that type of gameplay just isn't for me.

Still, it's very exciting and I wish everyone best of luck! :)

Albion is one unforgiving game if you get a bad start, I run the biggest guild & alliance that recruits new players as we can, we help with learning the many nuances of the game, leveling and providing grouping content!

Don't be one of the many who will wander into a full loot zone, loose everything and ragequit, in-game press G and Join a good guild/alliance.

Don't try to solo this game unless you want self-punishment.
Shameless ad but super relevant to this game's F2P :D

EDIT: The Bacons has pending applications for 3 years, check here if you want to join via Bacon Bits: https://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/comment/7465735/#Comment_7465735

I'd give you an insightful awesome for this post if it were possible.

I might come back if I found a group like yours which well aligned to my US eastern play times.

Dont fall for the ''must join guild to play or else die terrible death and lose it all' narrative. You can solo here without pressure, unless you want to go into black areas. Think Eve, same principle. Stay safe and enjoy or take risks and bring zerg friends. Also no one in their right mind goes to pvp with one set of gear, and gear is super cheap to make or buy. Now that is f2p get ready for overflowing starter areas and annoyance over simplest resources like birch or furs.

You can solo if you are a gatherer, or crafter, the sort of stuff that doesn't really involve combat or its pvp aspect. Now even for combat that you need to grind fame for, you'll have a fun time without a guild that one of their main points is grouping up for content.

And before the "there's looking-for-group in-game" argument, mind the looking for group is a mess because of how many people join just to report their guild to come gank you in dungeons, this happens all the time... you can only trust your own guild these days.

Even content as ganking that was more solo friendly before, now is a lot about numbers, one has to have a guild to ease a bunch of content, even if the guild is just your group of friends...

I've seen people solo rage quitting the game over and over again trying to play it as the traditional MMO, that I can't understand why tell people that they can solo Albion, they just can solo parts of Albion.

It's the difference of being a solo trader and being always an easy target vs being a trader in a guild and join the guild organized escorts. Which player is going to have the best experience?

Server is currently down for maintenance due a bug which people could exploit the game and get more gold than they should.

On forums players are calling for roll back or a fresh start in new servers due the ammount of gold some people made by exploiting the bug.

Quite the shit show if you ask me.
Things like this happen. It's not the end of the world. No I don't play Albion and I'm not shilling. It's just a fact of games in general.

True, but Albion loses points here because this isn't actually a release, it's just a F2P transition of a game that's been released for a while now.

I should join The Bacons before I end up quitting. I'm now at tier 5 gathering tools, which forces me into PVP zones as a crafter.

Except many times these things go undiscovered or unnoticed for years. /shrug I would be me concerned for how situations are handled rather than the situations themselves.

Great all round MMO, can't fault it. Albion Online even has fishing! 10/10 <- serious score thanks to new f2p status.

I guess it seems like a good enough time to go f2p given how stale things are atm. Nothing 'major' is happening until summer anyway.

Some days as VIP players, a mount, a pet and some other stuffs

Which makes me question, what does VIP gets? Because I didn't find the info on the site.

Edit: Nevermind me, I found out, you do things quicker, easily and earn more money due few taxes... ¬¬ that's not great.

There are no pets in Albion.

I agree with MaxBacon about joining a guild because it does make the overall experience from start to endgame easier. I would suggest finding a guild that suits your specific needs like time zone, mostly PVE or PvP oriented and because this is a PVP game, friendliness if you care about that. Do some random dungeons with people by searching in the LFG channel and meet some players that way. If you plan to PVP later create your island in Caerleon by running or taking the boat there naked. Many new players make the mistake of creating their islands elsewhere when their main focus later in game will be PvP.

Yup it's pretty much that, guilds as us being more social do not enforce strict rulesets, or taxation, etc... those the best places to be, and they can very well hit the late-game content with that setup, territory setup requirements cause a lot of toxicity with forced donations, etc... in the game here.
