So MMORPGs are a second hobby of mine, while my first is poker. I just realized that many of my guildmates play poker online and also many of my poker buddies have dabbled in MMORPGs.
And by poker sites i mean real money sites like pokerstars, fulltilt, etc...not facebook poker, yahoo poker or stuff like that.
There is definitely some correlation between some of the younger generation of poker players and Magic The Gathering that has been pointed out, so curious to see how many other MMORPGers on this forum have also dabbled in online poker.

"The monsters are tough. I was looking for a challenge, but these things are just too damn smart." -DF Beta Tester
"If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos

Ive always hated poker....Alot of my friends have lost alot of money playing poker.....Id jsut as soon go buy a new game with 50 bucks than go play poker for a few minutes........
52 deck games are boring and always have been to me.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Speaking of poker, only 2 days until the final table...
But on topic, I think some of it has to do with being comfortable with paying for an online service. Once your used to using your CC to pay for online entertainment via an MMO a poker site isn't all that big of a stretch.
I did at one point. I never played for real money though, I just messed around with the free-roll tables. I guess I'm not the gambling kind. I don't find it all that interesting.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I like the craps table a lot better. You just place your bets, then back your bets, then wait for the waitress to bring you drinks till you win, or crap out. Lots better than keeping up with cards.
i do know how a lot of them scam people as well and i think they are illegal in the USA so many must be operating outside the USA.
They have a scam that tries to lure you into thinking great odds, throw down thousands it is a can't lose proposition but the fine print points out only your first 20-30 counts towards the bonus.
Now another problem is,they are VERY quick to take our money but when it comes to cashing in,they can and will force you several hoops of proving who you are.Well you never cared who i was taking my money, now all of a sudden you care?I also used to read several posts on people never getting their money using the claim they were not the rightful owners of the account,a nice scam to fall back on.
So no not only is gambling bad, trusting any of these operations is not a good choice.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
So have not touched poker or blackjack or any casino style gambling in about 20 years.
Have not yet though. Maybe there is hope?
Nah there is really none for me or the human race.
