some food for thought,  The server us running on only a single quad code with 16GB right now.  This now explains what Chris stated a while back that worst case they could run the servers for years super cheap.

Atos:
Our connection is better at the new place but we moved the main game server from a Dual Hex core processor box with 48gb to a single quad core with 16gb. The performance isn't noticeable most the time but it is having trouble with garbage collection in a way the other one didn't

I know almost nothing about hardware.  Does this mean they downgraded?

Or is this a joke?  =/

when they moved data centers they had the whole system pretty much running on what would be a low end server  for a week.  They have since moved the actual server applications back to the hex core which runs abit smoother.  I just found it entertaining to know that it could run on what I would call a desktop if they ever needed.

This game will shutdown as I been saying.

Well, if the game's capable of running on a desktop, it's not too surprising it's still alive.  A corporation probably would have shuttered it long ago anyways though (like what happened to City of Heroes)

The game now runs on a Blade server(s) at a hosted site on fiber now.  They beefed it up recently.

Recent twitch stated that they operation costs are so cheap to run that they wanted to make sure the servers would run for years and years and years...  They are just about to do a large advertising push.   Things are finally at the point where new people coming in really like it.  Its a good time for starting now imo.   Ep2 first starting areas open up next patch.  We just had a few large guilds from UO move into our town they started a few weeks ago.  Look forward to what is on the release road map.  Game will keep trucking :)

Didn't these guys just recently sell their office to cut costs or something so their staff is working from home....?

They moved all the servers into a new blade server which is hosted at a facility now,  The office space they decided to leave as the lease company decided they wanted them to sign a new lease which was twice the costs and wanted them to commit to min 3 years which is not something they wanted to do and didnt think 10k a month would be worth the cost for an office that will no support ep2 staffing levels.  They have since been looking for possible new builds and in the mean time they are using collaboration dev tools to allow them via vpn to us home offices to work.

Since doing this they have been actually more productive as well getting more facetime with the community via twitch streams.    The 10k they are saving they are using for marketing in the mean time.    Ep2 development has been already in the works, first 2 zones related to the new lands / quest line is coming in the next month.   Hires for more world builders, designers is starting soon.  They do have with the new server hosting access to office space for meetings etc which is a provided service of the new hosting company.

They have been very transparent in everything to ensure people understood what they were going to do as well the reasons.

As a player backed game most the community felt this was a good savings of the money we are investing.

    :)

Every-time I see a thread abut this game this song pops into my head......

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

You do not invest in this game. The only thing you invest is .. time, not money.

"...this was a good savings of the money we are donating."

    There you go..

It's not ran on a donated laptop then?

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
