And MMOs lacking content or balanced gameplay don't tend to be well received or live very long.

I think there are merits to spreading out finished content (for free) over a period of months because it drives continued interest and presents (the illusion of) rapid development.

It's for the same reason that a new console shouldn't release all of their system sellers immediately. Nintendo did a lot more to sell their Switch by spreading out its year one titles, one per month, and letting Breath of the Wild create the launch hype. The same effect wouldn't be created by slamming down Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and the rest at launch. Less known but still great games like Fire Emblem Warriors or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be completely overshadowed.

To the same end, let's assume that Anthem has a larger arsenal of weapons complete. Spread out, any new weapon is going to be met with some excitement, but if all were launched at once, the more mundane weapons would end up overshadowed by the more exciting ones.

I'm not saying by any means that this is exactly what Bioware is doing, but it's food for thought.

That relies on there being enough content to spread out over several months without spreading it too thin.

When the soonest such relevant gear and items drop is after a month, that there are people leaving after a week is creating a notable gap in that schedule plan.

    Or to simplify the flipside point;

It doesn't matter what's released in a month if there's not enough content to retain a player now.

    Destiny 2 guys.
If you like fantasy fps go for Destiny 2. Worth way more of your money then this Anthem which is in early alpha stages. Anthem will need few months more before we see decent amount of content.
Before we see a decent amount of different guns and not just remodels with some numbers changed.

Wait 3-6 months and then decided if its still worth the money.

I decided to wait.  The problem is it looks like they are playing catch up.  Just putting out fires while also working on future projects.  MVP.

I don't have a problem with GaaS as a nebulous idea, except when GaaS is abused into "selling you a product advertised as complete, but really it's about 6 months to a year from complete." or the myriad of other ways pubs and devs have tried to leverage it to the detriment of consumers.

GaaS shouldn't be pointed to as justification when a product, specifically a AAA one, releases in a shoddy state.  Considering this dev/pub's last title still suffers from corrupting save games (something they won't ever fix, as they just gave up on the singleplayer), the faster consumer backlash breaks them of this habit, the better.

Yaiks!! run as far as you can! There is no excuse for releasing alpha version. Remember when last year the lead director left the game? It was doomed to beginn with- those poor leftovers that remained at this game are trying their hardest to fix it- but its to late. Anthem is not even ready for beta yet! It shows that those poor design decisions were not tested at all. ALL OF YOU WHO BOUGHT IT- YOU ARE THE MICES IN THE LABYRINTH- THE TRUE VICTIMS!
What you get now as patches are the easy solutions to this mess. Im pretty sure, the game wanted to be something very different and unique: p2w cash shop and a paid live service with a boxed price on top of that. A true tripple scam. Who knows, maybe its going that way anyway.

talk about drama Queen! ffs have you not played an mmo/online multiplayer game in the last 20 years? they all start out a mess and improve over time.

I have put 60+ hours into Anthem and i still enjoy it and when this patch rolls out tomorow then the loot will be even better. Victim... roflmao

People whine too much. Anthem is fun, and most of that crap that people complained about in the beta/demo isn't even a thing anymore. So tired of people who haven't played at all thinking they are now experts.
Sure it could have used some more work, but companies need to make money and this game has been in development for 6 years. At some point, a business wants to stop haemorrhaging money, so EA forced the release. They can always fix it AFTER they make some money back, and that's pretty understandable from a business perspective. Just because you want a perfect game, doesn't make it so. There's no such thing as a perfect release, even if you don't see any errors, they're there. Some are obvious some not so much.
Play the game, or don't play the game. Nobody cares either way. But if you haven't actually played in the last week, your opinion is worthless.
I play and it's great fun, I look forward to getting back on. Which is more than I can say for Destiny 2 right now. I have zero interest in logging back into that.

Actually, most the complaints are live ones from live players. Enough of them that they've been rolling daily threads for bug reports on reddit.

Your tactic of claiming anyone who "complains" hasn't played it, is simply disingenuous.

Enjoy the game as you will. Don't insult or belittle others because you feel offended they don't also like it, or have a specific issue/concern to voice.

well it could be from people who don't have played, I mean if the game keep crashing how he would play?

Nope.  Honestly the only bug I have encountered (and continue to encounter, to my chagrin....) is the HP bug.

Now only if BioWare/EA would make good on fixing the loot completely. This last patch did not make all of the promised changes from the above article and barely fixed inscriptions.

I am amazed and disappointed by what passes as a AAA release these days. Yes the game has it's merits and fun parts, but I didn't pay for the game to be their QA department. The game is a hot mess. Quests still break. Quickplay functionality is almost useless. Earlier today I found a World Quest that was broken. 102 hours in and the only reason I'm still playing is because The Division 2 isn't out yet and Anthem is still sort of scratching the new game itch.

Level 22 right now and still enjoying it. Glad that they are taking some steps towards improving the loot.

Though in the future, more exotic, interesting loot would be nice. Destiny has guns that shoot lazers and lightning. Why can't we have that? It's not like the technology isn't there. I mean I play a Javelin that can shoot fire/ice/lightning out of its hands.

Maybe Anthem doesn't have guns that shoot lightning because there's a Javelin that does it already without a gun? Making a lightning shooting gun that the other javs can also use would greatly diminish one of the defining characteristics/abilities of that Storm jav. Also, maybe because this isn't Destiny. RDR2 has horses, should Anthem, too? PUBG doesn't have mutant monsters, should Anthem ditch theirs as well? No. A 1000 times NO!

Let Anthem be Anthem. You want the guns from Destiny? Then, play Destiny.

The reason your comparison fundamentally doesn't work is that the technology for these weapons exists, would be viable, and would arguably be more effective than the basic, modern day guns Anthem utilizes. A horse, on the other hand, would actually be ridiculous and less efficient than Anthem's Javelin or Strider travel (and that's assuming that horses even exist in their world).

Even if you wanted to stick to ballistics, the question then becomes "why guns?" Iron Man, which Anthem clearly draws inspiration from, doesn't carry an AK-47. His suit is equipped with its own arsenal of firearms and missiles, which would be far more effective and efficient than carrying a gun (and look 1,000x cooler too). I know I would much rather get gear drops for various burst rifle, shotgun, etc. attachments to socket into my suit than an unmoddable, generic M-14 that clashes with my Javelin's color scheme.

Good grief. Have any of you moaning and whining about how horribly broken the game is even played the game lately? The game's been live for what, 10 days now? And many of you have already written it off. It's been patched atleast twice, thrice if the loot update dropped in the last day or so.

The game now loads faster than RDR2, and it's lightning fast compared to Metro Exodus. I've crashed once in about 16 hrs playtime. I lost audio once. It's a new game, there are ALWAYS bugs/glitches. No game has ever released bug/glitch free. PUBG's one of the most popular games out and yet's still full of problems.

As for studios releasing games in an unfinished state...

    1) Is this business model really new to you? They've been doing this now for years. Welcome to the state of gaming. Hell, I haven't played a finished game as far back as I can remember, and I've been video gaming since the late 1990's.

    2) Can anyone really freaking blame them??? Most of the same peeps that post their complaints about a b2p or p2p game releasing in an alpha/beta state, are the same peeps I see whining and moaning about how horribly long it's taking to release the game they're eager to play, or begging to be chosen for closed alpha/beta testing! You cannot have it both ways. If a studio takes a long time to release a polished, finished product (with few bugs/glitches), then you complain it's too long. If they give in to your complaining and rush the release to appease you, you complain. You want the world, and you expect it now. How did we get so entitled?

    3) Stop slamming a game you've only read bad press about yet haven't played (there are a poop-ton of you that do, mimicking the rest of the herd to fit in), your opinion means bupkiss if you haven't played it. Period. And if you have played it, but have criticism or suggestions, post that to the developers on the boards they create for your feedback! There is no better way to be heard by them. Generating a whine-fest here and on social media only hurts the chances that studio will be able to fix things. These posts that slam a new game hurt sales, which hurts the studio's revenue which in turn hurts their ability to pay their staff to work on bugs/issues/content.

Look, I'm not saying there's no room for criticism when a new game drops, but instead of generating these negative, complaint/whine filled posts full of often times poorly informed opinion ("I heard it's a mess! OMG!!!!!!1one1! Stay away!") or it's full of complaints and insults, yet without a spec of constructive feedback. When you do that you are only hindering the chances that things will get better. Go to the feedback forums and post constructive critiques and ideas there, where they've asked for it. Why not be productive instead of destructive? History has proven time and again that it's far easier to destroy than to create. Easy, is a cop out.

Bioware's proven already that they are working to fix/improve things with the 2 or 3 patches they've dropped in the 10 days since release. More are in the pipeline. They advertised the game as "evolving over time", give them some time to evolve it.

Perhaps you are right in that I have been fortunate. At any rate, with news of potential system damage/bricking, I don't intend to test that further.

At the point where bugs can actually damage players' hardware, the situation becomes indefensible and inexcusable, no matter how much I like the game, and I'll be taking a cautionary break until the issue is addressed and fixed.

Oh, exile01, thankfully you've exposed the conspiracy! You've opened the people's eyes with your opinion (stated as fact, which it's not). Whew, if not for you, the people would have suffered a fate worse than death. Your all-caps warning really saved the day!! You're a hero.

So... Have you, exile01, even played Anthem? The release, not the demo. As in, do you own the game, or did you play for 15 mins at your friend's house? Or have you just watched gameplay/review videos on youtube and that's where you're getting your opinion?

Cuz if ya bought it, then I quote: "ALL OF YOU WHO BOUGHT IT- YOU ARE THE MICES IN THE LABYRINTH- THE TRUE VICTIMS!" If you don't own it, or haven't played the release for any real amount of time, then your opinion carries a ton less weight. And lest peeps have forgotten, opinion is not fact. Stating your opinion as fact does not make it so. In fact, it makes one look uninformed or even stupid.

Personally, I'm having a blast with Anthem. Does it have problems that need fixing? Of course, it's a new release. But I also know Bioware's working to fix them, already dropping patches, and will continue to do so. And so I know the game will get better.

I do not want the guns from Destiny. I want comparably exotic and interesting guns in Anthem based on the lore and technology in Anthem. Wow me with your creativity, because in a universe with relics that can warp reality, a basic M-14 isn't quite doing it for me.

If we are trying to make excuses for guns, one could probably say that, while the technology exists for "gadgets", it still has it's limits (cool downs, resistance/immunity,etc.).  That's probably where a good'ol ballistic weapon could come handy no? (don't want to be raped by a grabbit because all your fancy stuff cools down)

Like I said, I'm just trying to make excuses.. I would love more "over the top" weapons too, but I'm sure they'll come in due time (I don't think one could argue that they have A LOT more to work on than this at the moment..).

Well, I didn't say it was a high priority right now. It's a small issue for a game with large issues.

Priority number one is fixing the alleged PS4 hardware damaging shutdowns.

Priority 2 is reducing loading times and fixing crashes.

Then we can talk about Priorities 3+ - new content and gear.

So some people's consoles died while playing Anthem, and it's Anthem's fault? Or is it more likely that they either had on old console that was going to do so no matter what they were playing, or they got a lemon? I've had two Xbox consoles die, both while playing a game. But I didn't blame GTA5 for it, I accepted my console was old. And when a new one died while playing CoD, I chalked it up to it being a defective unit. Since there's virtually no way to determine if the game killed a console, blaming the game seems really, really silly. And a good way to start unfounded rumors.

BTW, Aeander, don't crumble so easy. You have actual experience playing the game. You have actual gametime-played to back your statement. Don't let someone who's only watched videos of others playing shoot down what you've actually experienced. Your opinion based on time spent playing the game carries a lot more weight than some dude who watched a few videos, but never played it themselves.

Lastly, I'm like you in that I've played Anthem for at least 16hrs, with one crash and one audio drop. Hell, two weeks ago RDR2 crashed on me in the middle of a stranger mission, and that game's been out for months. Give Bioware some time, they'll fix what's broke. And in my opinion, within 3 months half of these haters will have bought it and will be playing regulary, lol. Mark my words. ;)

Hell, two weeks ago RDR2 crashed on me in the middle of a stranger mission, and that game's been out for months. Give Bioware some time, they'll fix what's broke. And in my opinion, within 3 months half of these haters will have bought it and will be playing regulary, lol. Mark my words. ;)
I wouldn't call it crumbling on my part. I would call it intelligent caution until the truth of the situation is found. The consequences of not showing due caution being potentially costly.

By no means do I intend to quit entirely. I suspect any alleged issues will be fixed within a week, as this type of issue is the highest priority type of technical issue. Taking that time away won't hurt my progression much anyway.

When will gamers get back to being excited about, have fun playing, and enjoy discussing positive aspects of games that come out? Or was there never a time? It just seems like so many people in forums have nothing good to say about any game now-a-days.

Am I some strange mutant due to the fact that I actually enjoy playing new games? I mean, when's the last time a game came out that was perfect, or didn't get a number of patches? Even before being able to download patches was a thing weren't there some games that had updates you had to pay for and have mailed to you? Or am I dreaming that?

When I played SWG it was the same thing. Someone was always complaining about something, balance in PvP, profession problems, cheaters, the devs, you name it and the complained about. So I don't think I've ever seen a forum where everyone was happy, not gaming forums at least.
