The Elder Scrolls Online site has been updated with a post from Loremaster Lawrence Schick who uses the space to announced that he is leaving Zenimax for "his next great adventure". Schick has been with the company since 2009 as its Lead Writer and Loremaster. The post is filled with Schick's observations about the community and its importance to Tamriel.

    That is a shame but best of luck to the gentleman. I really enjoy the story lines in ESO. Those are what I really enjoy compared to the grinding after reaching max level.

    Makes you wonder of Zenimax has some stuff coming down the pipes that breaks established lore into a thousand pieces. Ooooor maybe hombre just felt it was time to move on. Either way, my tinfoil hat is tingling.

    Oh really? I hope everything is alright then or that he enjoys whatever time he gets to spend with his family. The guy has certainly done a great job at ESO so far and im sure its fair to say he deserves time with his loved ones.

    Can anyone tell us who the 'Lead Writer and Loremaster' of WoW or GW2 is? I just don't believe they have one.

    Talking of which and crucial for ESO, will he get replaced? Or will the executives at ESO start to think we don't need a writer or lore guidance? That would be the start of ESO becoming another GW2.

    Honestly the lore and story telling is the one thing ESO does better than anyone else, (we know the combat isnt special) and if the quality of story goes down the drain I cant imagine ESO doing so well.

    I didn't play too much of ESO but what I did play of it (made it to 37 breton) the storylines were fantastic. The Elder Scrolls universe is honestly my second favorite (behind the warhammer universe) and the story and lore is what makes the games so good. I hope they find someone of equal value to advance the stories as well.

    Sad to hear he's leaving. I recently committed to ESO as my main MMORPG going forward. Rerolled a new class, watched a ton of video's from content creators. I'm enjoying the story a lot. Hope they get someone just as talented to replace him. I wish him the best going forward with his new adventure.

    LOL keep believing that shit about "leaving for family reasons". Just check out the offical ESO forums and you will see right off the real reason why he is leaving or we can at least speculate. It's all about the Racial changes that is going to break ESO once and for all, maybe even kill it.

    Back when so many Blizzard execs were leaving,i asked myself WHY.Like why would an employee leave a solid financially stable business?
    So the only reason i could figure was having worked on their games and seeing how easy it has been,they figure,hmm i can do these same ideals and make more money on my own.

    I have noticed that there are sadly only a few game reviewers that have noticed how shallow game design has become.A lot of copy paste designs to lazy effort like jot down some assets and put a marker over some npc head and tie in some trigger/quest.They are not quests ,they are nothing more than triggers,when an event is met the trigger happens and seldom anything more.

    So imo this guy is leaving to help further jade the gaming industry,he is going to work for some new upstart or his own venture and give us more of the same old lazy game designs we are seeing.

    Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    The racial changes are small statistical changes amounting to a very small dps difference to top end players whom compromise probably 5% or less of the total playerbase. "Kill the playerbase" , this is why no-one with sense worries about the ESO forums. Every patch the forums explode with "this will kill the game!!!" and the game is honestly growing if anything.

    I don't know if I agree on them doing it better than anyone else, but the story/Lore and enviromental aspect of thet game is the best thing about it for me. Everything else is just meh.

    I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

    I don't know about GW2 - seems pretty bad and mediocre game in general. But I think for WoW since CATA, the gameplay has been moving the story, not the story moving the gameplay.



    They invent story to support their scam mechanics like that Azerite crap.



    If I'm not mistaken they ran out of original lore awhile ago. So yes, they are making it up now. I may be in the monitory, but I still think the alliance story is the best I have seen since Wrath. I enjoyed it, but that is all I enjoyed and that isn't enough to keep me around.
